I really love the "I Was A Soul Train Dancer" series! I grew up watching Soul Train so it's wonderful to hear everyone's different experiences and backstories.
@@nancyconyers5802 Why is there always a negative “nancy” 🙄 . Did you not learn any if the following phrases: 1. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder. 2. One man’s pork chop is another man’s steak. 3. Opinions are like butt holes, everyone has one. Just because YOU don’t agree with her, that doesn’t mean something is wrong with her eyes. #GROWUP
My first day dancing on SOUL TRAIN in 1976 at 16 years old, there were 2 people I wanted to meet...PAT DAVIS and TYRONE SWAN. He was the ultimate of 70's style to me. In 2010 Don Cornelius mentioned that Tyrone received more than 3000 fan letters weekly...more than any Soul Train dancer ever. WOW THANK YOU BET😁
What I love about Soul Train in the 70s and early 80s is the dancers were regular teens and young adults who lived in your neighborhood or went to your high school. Not professional dancers pretending to be teens or young adults
As a Mexican kid living in L.A. back in the 70s and 80s I enjoyed watching Soul Train and American Bandstand. However, I totally loved Soul Train because of the dancing and the vibe was just more fun. The music was also so much better on Soul Train
I remember my Mom watching Soul Train in the 80s. Then later in middle school they showed American Bandstand reruns on TV. That was the first time I ever saw ABBA.
My sister and I made sure our chores were finished before Soul Train came on. We grew up dancing and loving Soul train. We saw ourselves in young people having a wonderful time. As a adult now, we still get together with friends and family and we dance down the Soul train line. Memories.
I remember him for how tall he was going down the line and he looked so much older than his age and now he looks so much younger for his age. Good interview.
Had Tyrone's answer to Patti Labelle's question been 18 instead of 17, we may have had to do a Part 2! But seriously, Patti was pure class all the way & although flattered, she would have handled it the same. But what I'd give to be in Tyrone's shoes to see all of my favorite acts live from back in the day & be part of something so legendary. Thank you, Tyrone, for sharing your story & allowing me to imagine what it was like.
I admire Ms. LaBelle for her integrity. If today's celebrities has 1/2 of her character, R. Kelly, P. Diddy, J Weinstein, B. Cosby wouldn't have ruined so many lives 😢
Mr. Tyrone Swan ... The afro and style was amazing. The Gold lame suit withe the gold chain and blue stone was epic!! I always enjoy hearing the stories of the dancers, especially those from the 70's and 80's.
Tyrone's first impression of Don Cornelious was the same as my own when I first met him at Chicago Airport. Mr. Tyrone Swan, your Afro was super Awesome back in the day! Plus, we are both from the West Side of LA!! Thank you for sharing your fantastic experience with SOUL TRAIN!!!
This was such an interesting story. I’m so glad they are making these videos longer. I always felt like the ones created in the beginning were too short and only scratched the surface of the dancer’s life story. Please keep these coming!
Wow, so surprised by this episode! So happy that Tyrone is very alive and well 🥰! I've been trying to find out what happened to him for years! I love this series, everyone has such a unique story about their time on the show. So glad they are interviewing the earlier dancers, folks are about to be 70! I hope they interviewed Damita Jo Freeman.
WOW, what a talented King then and now. Queen Patti they should have a reunion. This is amazing to hear these stories. I wished they got compensated too. Thank you for your work!
I remember Soul Train when it filmed in Chicago. It was our version of the Dick Clark show. It got so famous that it syndicated and moved to California and the rest is history. At the time I was a teenager in Chicago and I actually met Don Cornelius. He was standing right behind me in a grocery line. When I saw him I started stuttering "Are you" and he cut me off with this deep "Yes, it's me." I'm 70 now. Seeing this brought back good memories.
That afro was beautiful Tyrone. Yes, he does look like Bobby DeBarge. I loved that show growing up. Still distinguished looking. I'm glad the show has been able to find so many of the former dancers. I loved to watch that show on Saturday night. I lived in the "podunk sticks" and it made me keep from feeling cut off from the world.
Unfortunately, while in prison, DeBarge confided to his family that he had contracted HIV. When he became gravely ill, his family sent him to a hospice in Grand Rapids. He died of AIDS complications there on August 16, 1995, at the age of 39.
I always thought Mr. Swan was cute. I didn't know who he was, of course, I watched as a school ager, but as a GenX now, revisiting the Soul Train shows, always wondered who he was, with the Fro for days. He could've been a relative of DeBarge or the Sylvers for all I knew. I enjoyed getting to learn more about Tyrone. Continued blessing to you Tyrone and your loved ones. Thank you for being a part of Black American pop history, with the iconic Soul Train.
As a young white girl I loved Soul Train. I remember it on Saturdays after or before American Bandstand and I would watch both. I loved the vibe and the dancing.
I was born in 1972 and my earliest memories of Soul Train started in 1981. It's amazing to look back through this channel to learn that most of the early dancers were teenagers. They look like 20s to me 😂 Patrice Rushan is the biggest from the 70s starting at 15 years old
The Jacksons attending Emerson is crazy!! I wouldn't have guessed that in a million years. The stories Swawn could REALLY tell. You can tell he held back.🔥
What a great interview. I remember him from the show. So glad to see how well he is doing and he looks great. But in his youth he reminds me of Bobby from one of my favorite groups "Switch".

I love these videos, such a walk down memory lane. I could dance and always wanted to dance on Soul Train. I remember Tryone on the show. I would rush to do chores to be free at 12noon when Soul Train came on. Tryone still handsome as ever.

Tyrone was a staple on Soul Train and absolutely unforgettable! He has aged beautifully!
I didn't know he was so young on soul train. Very honest about his experiences.
Right? He didn't look 16! 😊
Yeah, all these years I thought he was gay , I’m glad he had opportunities to say his peace. I feel better now😜
Right, I had a classmate that danced on the show. I thought he just got lucky because I assumed that everyone was over the age of 18 years old.
