  • Access to Crimea has been extremely difficult since the Russian Annexation of 2014. By editing home footage taken in 2009 this film provides an insight into the "Pearl of the Black Sea" during the last few years of Ukrainian rule (Crimea is, de jure, part of Ukraine but, de facto, part of the Russian Federation - and that situation is unlikely to change).
    Places visited:
    Yalta: Crimea's most popular boardwalk and the location of the Livadia Palace, venue for the famous Yalta Conference at the conclusion of WWII;
    Sevastopol: Home of the Black Sea Fleet and a former "closed" city;
    Swallow's Nest: The most photographed site in Crimea;
    Balaklava: Florence Nightingale, the Charge of the Light Brigade, and a picturesque harbour;
    Bakhchisaray: Site of the Kahn's Palace, the centre of power during Tartar rule, and Uspinsky Monastery.
    Filmed 2009

    Thank you for this precious video. It’s sad that Russia created this artificial conflict and destroyed any trace of Ukraine on this peninsula that proved how close Russia and Ukraine can be

      To me it seems the people are happier being part of Russia, kind of like how the Northern Ireland people want to be part of Britain.

      @@AtleMyhre thank God!! You know I'am asking Ukrainian peoples who put their comments in 1 last years. Sorry to say Crimea is not my problems. Ukraine have to resolve their problem by themselves..Remember your government are playing a chess against the Russian.
