A lot of voices go lower after a while. Especially if one is smoking quite heavily for decades. Leonard Cohen, Marianne Faithful, Serge Gainsbourg, etc. had the same happening to their voices.
Same question here... If you see the Chiemsee Reggea etc. you can see he has alot more muscles than 20/30 years ago. Maybe steroids? That'd explain his change in his voice also. Although i wouldn't expect that from Eek a Mouse..:(

@Edward Oliver. Unfortunately, steroids and crack cocaine are the culprit here. There is plenty of "heavy smoking" done by many reggae artists with very minimal effects on their vocal chords. Human growth hormones, steroids, the ravaging effects of crack and cocaine do not do the vocal chords any favors.
Still sounds good though, even here, with the way he uses that beng beng giddy beng beng..... bang bang EY! There is nobody like him.(Apart from Simple Simon- Obey your mother and father).. Type that in here on youtube. His voice comes close to Eek.
@walt jabsco, no doubt! I am an eek fan. I've just watched the ravages over the years and someone made a comment on his decline. I prefer to remember the eek of old. Some artist (unfortunately) become heavier and much more complex as they self destruct, their work becomes darker and deeper. Eek is not one of those artists, in fact, some of his later ventures have had less feeling and are a bit bizarre for lack of a better description. But like I said, I do love the Mouse, Yellowman, Scratch, etc... And the rest of the old school dance hall greats.
