hi can you clear one doubt in this video only when am calculating total amount of new zealand + australia countries am not getting correct values like in the video. Not understanding why am using variables even individual calculation also not getting correct results can you help?
You can try this it worked for me, go to data modeling tab and link one table of the columns to the other table column which is of same Dat type , then try adding it will work
I am literally going to take every single one of your tutorials!! I love the filter and the calculator prop. You have a way of making this so intuitive and easy. Like when you used yarn and paper to demonstrate table relationships :) Also, "I'm just kidding...there is no sponsor" made my partner laugh from all the way in the other room!
Extraordinary video. Quality video. Quality audio. Quality content. Your video removed fear associated with Dax. I suggest that your courses may be priced reasonably so that more people can benefit without any loss to you. Please consider
This is SO GOOD! Chandoo, your videos have been invaluable in my learning Power BI. Years ago I worked extensively with Hyperion Essbase and IBM Cognos TM1. I’m astonished with the power of Power BI.
Hello Chandoo, It is wonderful to see your Tut, it is give me a mood to go back in my past, as I worked in Saudi in SAP ERP in most modules, during that time DAX was not their, now I use imagination how good it was if you and DAX was there. Any how your kind efforts really helps me in learning new things and brushes up knowledge, and same shareing with my son's. Almighty bless you and your family. Love from Hyderabad
Hi Chandoo, this is Awesome Tutorial on DAX, Pure Gold. You are Legend. Between Min 31: 00 and 40:00, on the Magic Calculate DAX, I am getting a bit confused and somehow lost with the first calculate DAX example. You define this Measure as LBS count = Calculate([Shipping Count], sales[box]> 50). As far as I understand the core concept of Calculate DAX, It looks like if this measure would accounts for the Nr Boxes Sold < 50 as defined by the filter field and NOT necessarily boxes shipped count. The last example is crystal clear, just like water under the bridge: America Sales = Calculate([Shippment Count], locations [Region] = "Americas".
Hi Osorio.. Thank you. CALCULATE takes time to sink in. The basic idea is: CALCUTLE will calculate any measure by altering the filter context. So in case of LBS count, we take the [Shipping count] and introduce a new filter on the Sales table so that we are looking only at shipments that have under 50 boxes.
@@chandoo_ Thank you for your swift response. I have been playing a lot with your dataset in this tutorial . I went beyond the examples given. I used Calculate DAX for controlling Years. I have applied Calculate for Year 2021 and Year 2022. For product categories, I did Calculate measures for all three Bars, Bites and Other as: Shipping Bars = CALCULATE([Shipping Counts],products[Category] = "Bars"), Shipping Bites = CALCULATE([Shipping Counts],products[Category] = "Bites") and Shipping Other= CALCULATE([Shipping Counts],products[Category] = "Other"). All add up to Total shipping Count for each product. In addition to filter for weekday = "Friday" with the Calculate DAX, I extended beyond and filtered for Saturday and Sunday. There are NO Transactions at all on weekends. Instead of Shippment, I used Sales as: Sales Fridays = [Total Sale](Calendario[weekday]="Fri") . I think I am clear now, the field "boxes" from the sale tables means quantity of boxes sold (but also quantity of boxes shipped for each transaction). Am I right? Sir, Thank you in advance for all your support.
Great work Osorio. Yes, that is what boxes mean. And yeah, we at Awesome Chocolates, spend our weekends with a long walk followed by a cup of hot chocolate 😋
Fantastic. Your explanation of the concepts is so clear. I am really glad that I came across this video without which it would have taken me many hours or days of trail and error to get things right,
This is purely an exceptional and excellent talent you have in training, Chandoo. I am impressed by the ease of digesting your content. It is above and beyond. I am enjoying doing the hands-on as you walk me through using your datasets. At timestamp 27th minute, I am having a snag case in getting the correct count. I am just getting all these 22s. I have used 3 formulae with the third one getting from someone in the comments but none gives give the correct distinct count. The cardinality in my ERD (let me call it so) of the relationship is "Products" to "Sales" as 1 to Many just like yours. I downloaded the recent Power BI desktop in case it is a difference in versions that may use different formulae to achieve the correct results. I don't know where I am wrong. I tried every one of these DAX formulae. Count of Products1 = COUNTROWS(products) Count of Products (right) = DISTINCTCOUNT(sales[Product]) Distinct Products Count = CALCULATE( COUNTROWS(products),sales)
Yeah it's definitely 'Count of Products (right) = DISTINCTCOUNT(sales[Product])', so i wonder if the data in your table has been changed somehow, or if you have selected the wrong measure for your visualization
Thank you for the detailed DAX measure tutorial. However, I would appreciate it if you could review your course prices, as the exchange rate is currently very high, especially from Nigeria.
Chandoo has to he the best Tutor for power bi on this platform not even for his know how but especially how he simplifies everything he teaches❤❤❤ thanks alot
Hii sir its really fantastic video for freshers . Iam really excited to say wahh taj. No more words to explain and after completing this video iam very confident about DAX
Hey Chandoo. I come with a problem that has been raised by my manager, that I can solve in my head, but I cannot declare that in any way to excel formula language. I have solved it but really not in the way It is supposed to be. We have machines that may fail and breakdown, if it happens we register a ticket that declares the date and time that malfunction started. As we know when malfunction stopped, and we have a specific breakdown time duration, we want to assign breakdown time to shift that was working at the time. I solved this in the way I assigned the whole breakdown time to the shift that malfunction started, but the problem is I don't know how to split this time between more than one shift. Let me give you an example: We have 3 shifts working: 6-14 - Call it to shift A 14-22 - call it to shift B 22-6 - call it to shift C If malfunction started at 12 and lasted for 16hours I have to assign breakdown time: - A 2 hours - B 8 Hours - C 4 Hours Pls help me in this.
The Master of Excel has come to take his place in Powerbi. Did you notice he did all these without the mentioning the complexities of context whatever?
It has been useful for me to understand small small things from your way of presenting and how we can calculate it in a different ways . Actually I was confused to write the dax measures like I didn't even know the difference between same formulas in different formats. Thanks Chandoo keep posting videos related to power bi I am seriously looking for my path to becoming a dashboard star...
Never mind. I just did this manually and it works perfectly for me. Just looking at the results in the video, it looked like it didn't work. It returned values greater than 50 in the video, where it should be returning only values 49 or less. Edit: Still doesn't seem right. I'm getting boxes that are less than 50, but it doesn't appear that it pulled all boxes that are under 50 even though my filters are showing that all of the data is being returned. My lowest box number is 21. My data sheet has lots of boxes that are from 0 to 20. I'm still missing something.
Nice introduction to power pivot engine. As said the distinct count of product can be found in many ways, the one which do by filtering many sides to one side is Distinct Products Count = CALCULATE( COUNTROWS(products),sales)
