Thanks for the tip there Jim! I gotta got mine up and running again. Turns out that really cheap no name SD cards is not the right thing to use for your Allstar node. The funny thing is that I was watching your video when your tip came in.
I just purchased one of these from Amazon. I saw your review there. Mine came with a small folded up sheet of paper. It has the urls for the software required and it mentions that the usb cable has two sides and you need the serial side to program the device. Thanks for making this video and helping other hams.
I just built an AllStar 3 node using a Aursinc for the radio link. All's well except the bit error rate is high. I know where this adjustment is on pistar but haven't a clue with allstar. Could someone please help me?
Morten, do you consider the USB cable faulty because you had to flip it over for 2 functions? If so, that is the radio's fault. USB C on the board has 2 sets of pins which are normally shorted on the board. Or they can be connected to 2 devices on the board so flipping the cable is like having 2 connectors: one for programming, one for useage.
Nope, but the cable that comes with the node is not connected to all of the pins. But when you swap it with a better cable it works like a charm. And I actually like the unusual way that they have given this device two ports.
I haven’t found a way to read what it is programmed with, but I am sure there is a way. As with the USB cable it is a bit of trial and error, but once you find the right way you can mark the cable as I have done.
Thanks Morten! I just got this thing, and thought it was broken. Who knew the cable was positional!

You're welcome! I need to get mine up and running again, I repurposed the Pi for something else.
Thanks (Takk) for this video. I think I'm gonna buy myself one of these for Christmas :)
Love the accent😂 great video, I’m gonna tinker with it now.

I honestly don't know. I haven't really looked that deep into AllStar. I will see what I can figure out once I get my note up and running.
What interface are you using to program the RF node with, never seen that one before?
It's mentioned at 1:30 in the video. Thanks for watching and commenting!
Can anyone help me? I can’t seem to get ctcs tones programmed in my Aursinc.
Is the faulty USB cable available separately? Asking for a friend. Hi HI Great Video! 73
If it isn’t, you can have mine 😀

Can you share your simple USB settings for the AllStar side?
It is not up and running at the moment, but I can do that once I get it up again at some point.
Really nice walkthrough 😊
Thanks!
Is there a way to "read" whats on the radio that was previuosly set up? Also how am I going to tell if I have the USB C flipped the right way? Thx

I am interested, does this Node stuff have anything to do with GMRS, like a Repeater system of some sorts ? , thanks for any replys... WSBU229
I live in Norway, and hence I don't know GMRS since that's purely a North American radio service.
