This song is 55 years old, and it has become a tradition to play and enjoy this song in memory of my father. Thank you daddy love always even though you're not here. You done an awesome job. Happy heavenly FATHER'S DAY
My first husband couldn't handle being the father of a special needs son so we divorced. A lot of men aren't willing to get involved in a relationship with the single mom of a special needs son but 24 years after my divorce one did and we got married. He couldn't adopt my son since he was legally an adult but he did do the next best thing and willingly became my son's legal co-guardian. My son is 99% non-verbal, but on his own, he started using the word "da" (dad) when this wonderful man entered our lives. This song made "da" cry the first time I played it for him.
My Grandson is also non verbal. I'm glad to hear he is on his own. My son in law has been in my Grandson's life since he was 3 months and doesn't know any other father.
My Dad raised my brother, sister and myself. He passed from this life and into legend on Apr 16, 2009, one month after his 89th birthday. Born the grandson of slaves, he served with distinction, in the 92nd Division, in Italy, during WW2. He lived history. Born into an age where radio was in its' infancy, he lived to see television, computers, space flight, and the internet. He taught us that pride is determined by how well you respect yourself and how well you respect others. He had always told us that whatever you do in life, be sure you "make a difference". I see, now, that he was right.
I was a 4yr old boy when u took me and my 2 brothers in. Now losing you as a grown man at 45yrs old. I want to credit you and thank u for helping me become the man i am today. You were never a step father but a man who stepped up. I just want to call you father. Goodbye for now, until we meet again.

I dedicated this to my dad at 47 years old when I found out that I was adopted. I am now 56 years old, and on February 14th 2019 my dad turned 90 years old and he's still going strong... God is so good 😁😁😁😁😁😁😁😁
Yes, Stacey A. Collins, you're soooo right! God is good...24/7. That was a very nice thing you did ...dedicating such a lovely song to your Dad So glad to hear that he is 90 and still going strong! That is a true blessing! God bless you both.
My Father passed 2 months before I was born. My mother's heart was broken for many years. Then she passed at 32 yo. Moving forward, I do have a Father, his name is Lord, God. It wasn't easy being without my earthly parent's but my God, my Father my Daddy walked me through and still does. And I color Him Father! And I color Him Love!
My stepson, who is 6yrs old, dedicated this song to me, and i damned near broke down and cried cause i was stunned. He’s 10 now, and he corrected me, said, “i don’t want to be your stepson, i wanna be your son” so i adopted him, and boy DID I BREAK DOWN! Here’s why. Comes home from work, wife fixed me a good meal, then he handed me an envelope, wife told me read it out loud, and the adoption was final, and while reading it, he hugged n kissed me said, “i love you dad”! Couldn’t hold back, and he made me proud of him He’s 14 now, and my wife and I are so proud of him, and everytime he calls me dad, I have a glow about me, and smile, and he tells the world that I’m his dad, but don’t ever call me stepdad, or else you’ll have to deal with him

My daddy just passed away today, he loved himself his oldies... I 💘 u daddy. Rest in heaven with my mom you guys are back together again after all these years.
My father loved this song because it made him think of the man who raised him when his own father wouldn't step up. Big hat tip to the men who step up and love children who aren't theirs.

Hildeliza not everyone has to like the same music.. Surely you know not everyone has a caring loving father and that doesn't mean they are a bad person or going to downvote this song because of hating on the lyrics. More likely they would avoid listening to this song on youtube entirely..
Unfortunately their are cowards and idiots out there. Hey , Lost an uncle in South- Vietnam mid 3/68. It was 10 days before my 11th birth day; 3/30/1968!
Came into my life and brothers life when I was 6 years old. When been stamped rejected by our biological father but he stepped and took care of the business. At his funeral I did his eulogy and title his program Color him Father Color him Love. These type of men need serious recognition
This song is being dedicated to my Step Dad from 55 years he lived and raised 3 kids that didn't have a father living at our house in 1958... I'll never forget this man.. R I P My special Father...

I'm not the most emotional guy but after listening to patches and this song back to back I literally started bawling 20 seconds into this song. My dad has been in my life since day 1 so I have no idea why it hit me so hard. It's not even like he passed away, he's literally sitting in the other room lol.

LaDell, I feel you are thinking about how blessed you are to have your dad in your life.... Alive and well. Some of us were not so blessed to have our fathers consistently in our lives. Continue to honor your father (and mother)..... For this is God's blessings to you; never take that love for granted.
I dedicate this song to the most precious caring loving father there is JESUS CHRIST the father among all fathers thank you father(Jesus) for coming into my life and bringing me thus far i could not have made it without you that's why i color you father i color you love thank you for loving and caring for me when all others fail i love you my heavenly and will forever praise your holy name

My father was killed when I was 2 in 1972. I have older siblings who claimed him as their father aside from him being their step father. They dedicate this song to him every chance they get. I never got the chance to know him like they did but the memories they share with me and this song says a lot about how much they loved him🙏🏿 Rest peacefully Daddy (Johnny Wesley Phagan)🌹🙏🏿
I dedicate this to my late uncle (my mother’s older) that died in February 2004. He had cancer, affecting his brain and lungs. He was more like a father than my own. RIP, Uncle.....I color you father.
Love you Dad. Miss you very much. This song is dedicated to Mr. William Doyle (1933 - 2011) who has been my dad since he married my mom in 1966. Happy Father's Day Dad.
Awhhh. Great memories of my daddy. How I miss him and I'm sure hes missing all of his children all 11 of us. God bless him he never asked a penny from the govt. Two jobs and one of them was a musician and saxophone, guitar, and keyboard player.. how I miss him and mom
To the memory of my wonderful father ❤️ no man on Earth like him I will forever in each step that I take hold his life and legacy up!!!! I love you Daddy ❤️. Don't waste time in anger and resentment tomorrow is not promised if I could just get that time back I would dance with my father again!!!
Yes this song is a very important song because during the seventies we had nothing and we knew our mom and dad was working very hard and this song always remind me of the difficulties that they were facing and still to the young folks out there this song is very meaningful to me I appreciate every day it gets me ready for my daily work and deal with this crazy world I think the artist who ever created this song but I know it has to do with a lot of the people coming out of the South it was just difficult we had nothing and we saw appearance go to work everyday treat like nothing but they kept going so this is a motivating song for all people not only blacks for all people thank you
My “Dad” married my Mom when I was 2 1/2. I now have 6 1/2 brothers (no sisters) . Life has been an adventure to say the least , now at 71 I’m still amazed at what The Lord has shown our family. He got saved on his death bed 31 yrs ago……… Yes ! God is good all the time; even when we can’t see it. Thank You Dad
My dad said to me before he died. You ll forget me in time. I said no I won t dad. He knew that he could have been a better dad. But he did the best with what was dealt to him . All ten of us grew up good. You and mom did good. Dad im proud of you and I still remember you. And I still love you. My dad died March 4th my wife's birthday is March 5th. How cool is that God always covers the details. He is so cool. We ll meet again pops. Say hello to Paul and Jan. Mom too. Xxoo

May you rest in heaven with my dad and my other mothers Delores Green and Maxine Harrison. Love on each other. All of yall are missed everyday
what a beautiful song brings back good memories from the sixties but this song is telling it like it is any fool can make a baby but it takes a real man to be a father don't forget that
Happy Father's Day, Daddy. I visited your grave today. Though you died 10 years ago this October, 2 days after your 91st year on earth, I remember everything so vividly. Mama was taken away from us when I was 12, but you never missed a beat. You were there for me until the end. When you could not get out of bed on your own or even get in bed, you were there for me. I will miss you until we are together again. I love you, Daddy.

One of the best Father’s Day tunes ever. This won a Grammy in 1969. The B-Side is “Amen, Brother,” most famous for being the origin of the classic and oft-used sample known as the “Amen Break.”

Before we heard that ultimate Mother's Day classic, "Sadie," we had this ultimate Father's Day classic; recognizing that rare breed of husband and father so sorely missed and needed today.
ooook bc I'm from "The Most Sampled Song in Hip Hop" (it's not this one 😏) and the creator listed this as the most sampled song. now I know but OMIGOD I never knew this A side ..I'm crying from all the gratitude excised here esp. as I'm just nearing 2 yrs past the time I lost mine. Also bc I almost became one thru adoption and was ready to call a young AA man my son. much love and be well

I’ve actually never heard of this song by The Winstons. Of course in 1969 I was only 3 years old Lol 😆 One of my coworkers just introduced me to this amazing classic. My dad passed in 2016 when I was turning 50. Usually a milestone but without him it was just another birthday to me that year. I came home from work and did as the Winstons said, sat down at my own table and had a talk with dad. COLOR HIM FATHER 👍🏾✌🏾🙏🏾😎🎶
I love this song 🎵 ❤️ 😭 I enjoy reading the comments. They are very touching and it really warms my heart to read the love ❤️ 😍. Now I'm going to play patches. Thanks for sharing.
This song is very special to me cause everything in this song is so true, it's like the Winstons knew my stepfather David g Cooke and made this song especially for him cause everything in this song was him and he was my father, when we would go places he never said my stepchildren, he would say my children. And he moved us out of a apartment into a house and yes I'm going to color this man father! !! Thank you Winstons for singing this song about my father! !! I will cherish this song until the day I die. R.I.P gone but never forgotten thank you for everything that you have taught me growing up. I love you dad. I miss you so much.
remember listening to this in the 60s. now listening to this in these times it's isnt the usual. men need to step up & be men kids need love & strength. great song & great job to those men who are like this.

Now I a grown woman and never forget the the love he showed throughout my life as a dad. I missed him still this day, sometimes yearn to talk with him. But I know he's in a better place.
We should dedicate a day to them every year.
Great song and heavy words - I was a freshman in high school - but this was definitely the song
Can relate to this,
TOUCHE.......admirable
My Dad raised my brother, sister and myself. He passed from this life and into legend on Apr 16, 2009, one month after his 89th birthday. Born the grandson of slaves, he served with distinction, in the 92nd Division, in Italy, during WW2. He lived history. Born into an age where radio was in its' infancy, he lived to see television, computers, space flight, and the internet. He taught us that pride is determined by how well you respect yourself and how well you respect others. He had always told us that whatever you do in life, be sure you "make a difference". I see, now, that he was right.
whoever gave this song a thumbs down is a HATER
it's nothing like having a daddy in your life trust me !!
What a beautiful song!
He or she may have a lot of pain & often pain identities as anger or/and hate.💙
Hildeliza not everyone has to like the same music.. Surely you know not everyone has a caring loving father and that doesn't mean they are a bad person or going to downvote this song because of hating on the lyrics. More likely they would avoid listening to this song on youtube entirely..
Considering the ratio of up/down votes you are most likely hating on a bot.
Unfortunately their are cowards and idiots out there. Hey , Lost an uncle in South- Vietnam mid 3/68. It was 10 days before my 11th birth day; 3/30/1968!
I totally agree with you 👍💯
When I listen to this song I dream about what it would be to have a father like this. I never had one but to this day still wish I did and I’m 64
R I P My special Father...
he wasnt a step father, he was a father who stepped up! god bless him
Cynthia you brought tears to my eyes , RIP her Special Dad !

What a beautiful song. I hope my children see me like this.

I'm not the most emotional guy but after listening to patches and this song back to back I literally started bawling 20 seconds into this song. My dad has been in my life since day 1 so I have no idea why it hit me so hard. It's not even like he passed away, he's literally sitting in the other room lol.
Phrotasm Bush that's strange,I just got thru listening to patches, feeling nostalgic missing my dad
Ladell Murray Maybe You Felt Emotional for Those That Actually Experienced N Lived That Situation. Some Song's Can Really Touch US That Way.I 💘 The Song Myself.I find it Educational n enlightening and Very Inspiring n well Delivered.

LaDell, I feel you are thinking about how blessed you are to have your dad in your life.... Alive and well.
Some of us were not so blessed to have our fathers consistently in our lives.
Continue to honor your father (and mother)..... For this is God's blessings to you; never take that love for granted.

To my StepDad you were and always will be my Dad! I miss you Dad everyday! ❤
I dedicate this to my late uncle (my mother’s older) that died in February 2004. He had cancer, affecting his brain and lungs. He was more like a father than my own. RIP, Uncle.....I color you father.

Awhhh. Great memories of my daddy. How I miss him and I'm sure hes missing all of his children all 11 of us. God bless him he never asked a penny from the govt. Two jobs and one of them was a musician and saxophone, guitar, and keyboard player.. how I miss him and mom
They're together again in heaven... my daddy passed away today . I know he already met up with mom. I miss them both.
My kids played this for there Father today on "Fathers Day ". It brought tears to his eyes, and he's not a man whom cries about anything.
Reading this made me wellup. Thank You for this.... be safe and well.

Yes this song is a very important song because during the seventies we had nothing and we knew our mom and dad was working very hard and this song always remind me of the difficulties that they were facing and still to the young folks out there this song is very meaningful to me I appreciate every day it gets me ready for my daily work and deal with this crazy world I think the artist who ever created this song but I know it has to do with a lot of the people coming out of the South it was just difficult we had nothing and we saw appearance go to work everyday treat like nothing but they kept going so this is a motivating song for all people not only blacks for all people thank you
A perfect song for Father's everywhere.❤️ Happy Father's Day ❤️🤗🙏!

Life's greatest gift. Being a father. Eternal truth. Just takes love.
Never seen or knew my real father. But thank God my grandparents raised me as best as they could. May they both rest in peace!!!
Beautiful comment Shirley. Many of us have leaned very hard on our grandparents. Yours must have been very special.
You spoke my story, my grandparents raised me too. Thank you Mama Susie and Daddy, only love always

My brother I agree with you 100%
Happy Father's Day, Daddy.
A big shout to ALL fathers who nurture the young to be the best they can be! I was lucky to have the great dad I had!

One of the best Father’s Day tunes ever. This won a Grammy in 1969. The B-Side is “Amen, Brother,” most famous for being the origin of the classic and oft-used sample known as the “Amen Break.”

Before we heard that ultimate Mother's Day classic, "Sadie," we had this ultimate Father's Day classic; recognizing that rare breed of husband and father so sorely missed and needed today.
ooook bc I'm from "The Most Sampled Song in Hip Hop" (it's not this one 😏) and the creator listed this as the most sampled song. now I know
but OMIGOD I never knew this A side ..I'm crying from all the gratitude excised here esp. as I'm just nearing 2 yrs past the time I lost mine. Also bc I almost became one thru adoption and was ready to call a young AA man my son. much love and be well
Imagine recording this.. then sticking the Amen Break on the B-side 👀👀
My wife played this for me. I was touched.
Powerful tune for all the step dads out there. Take care of those kids like they were your own.
Dedicated to my father Mr. Tucker E. Williams. The trumpet sounded and God gave you your wings on August 4th 2019. I still miss you 😭 very much! Luv u dad!

Thank You Linda for your life story. It's a wonderful one at that. Be safe, and well.
