1. Where is Caleb? Lol. I guess we forgot to mention. He stayed home with Carson during spring break while we attended the BBQ event you'll see next weekend. 2. How come we don't use the Hensley Hitch anymore? It 100% eliminated the sway issue we had with the Reflection, but the F250 and Airstream tow so well, I prefer the simplicity of a standard WD ball hitch. 3. Why did you stop at Pilot as they don't offer the biggest savings with the fuel card? I heard the night before that I could dump at Pilot. We passed up a Love's down the road because the lines were so long and then I remembered we could dump, but after recording the fuel calcs, we forgot to dump! 🤦♂
Ohhh, that makes sense. We are going to pick up our 35 foot rv this week and the dealers is 1k miles away from us. We found the dealer was selling new rvs for like 20k cheaper than msrp since it is a family owned business. The dealer close to us was selling the same rv for 58k (more than msrp) and the trailer was a 2019. The only trick there was we had to wait 5-6 months after order. Anyway, we got the Hensley because we think it’s better safe than sorry.
hey Marc 1. Didn't know that Pilot or Flying J offered fuel discount with the fuel card as they offer discount ( not as good as fuel card) via Good Sam.... 2. When actually using cards at the pump- credit card first then fuel card or the other way around?
That’s my big ole family with that new camper at the end of the video!!! Marc and Trish made our day with that honk of the air horn and now we made the channel! We love KYD and the community! Safe travels from the Campbell family!
That must have tickled the Campbell kids! (How many in your clan?) Safe travels to you all! We had 4 homeschooling kids at one time on the road, it can be done and still keep your sanity!😂 A few tricks we found, Start with walkie talkies! 1) Two oldest would many times be in the back guiding us (one time it was them and only me, MOM, for a 6 week trip!) 2) each kid had a job to do, and the younger ones got ‘follow up’ duty (Navy clan we are). The young ones got rewarded a quarter if they found something missed by the older ones! We were always “ship shape” when pulling out. 3) Our young drivers all learned how to hook up and pull out in case something happened to us parents. Mom (me) was the first to learn it all and, as I said above, I & the 4 kids took a long trip (6 weeks) on our own! Blessings to you all… and make MEMORIES!!!
I don't mean any disrespect but I sure am lucky for my dad, after 5 years of fulltime you are still learning things that I have just taken for granted. Thanks dad
We just got back from a 3,600 mile trip in our 27’ Airstream. Long Island, New Orleans, Dallas, and back home! My TV has a 34 gallon tank and yes, the constant fill ups with the gas prices was not fun. That said, we had the best times of our lives! Never laughed so much and now 2 weeks later, still talking about the trip!
Videos like these are why we started watching your channel years ago. We’ve missed them these past couple seasons. We hope they are back. We’ve been on the road for a year and still find pearls of wisdom that can make a difference.
My wife went through our stuff this morning and quickly pulled out 50+ lbs of stuff we never use. She plans to go through more soon. Thank you Tricia for the comments about removing stuff we don’t need.
WOW!!! 560 MILES ON A TANK. I'M STILL CONFLICTED ON GAS VS DIESEL WITH THE PRICE DIFFERENTIALS. EVERYTHING FROM THE PRICE OF THE ENGINE OPTION , DIESEL MAINTENANCE AND FUEL COST. PS. YOU'RE BACKING SKILLS HAVE IMPROVED. NICE WORK AT THE TRUCK STOP
We purchased an electric/12V portable 55g freezer. A week before the trip we cooked/grilled enough meat & meals to last our family for 3 weeks. It saved so much money, quick to prep, & much healthier than eating out. The freezer in the rig served as back up meat storage for future meals & prep. Total game changer for us.
May i ask what else went into the new freezer (besides cooked meat)? I fill my electric smoker at home then freeze most of it so it lasts us for a month or so. Look forward to RVing later this year - maybe!
@@jamesstark1750 I made lasagna rolls, chili, mini meat loafs, taco meat, breads, desserts, etc. Almost anything you make at home can be frozen. Some meals have to be adapted, but usually it's pretty easy.
@@JenniferNPL1 Thanks for the tips! I will get cooking when I have my first big trip (maybe in less than a year). We are caring for my mother in law (who is slowing down a bit more lately). It's in the Lord's hands.
My wife and I just returned from a trip to AZ last week the night before we left we talked about not going because of the fuel prices she was almost in tears I’ve been dealing with cancer for the past three years so when I’m feeling and doing well we like to take advantage of it what I’m trying to say is don’t let fuel prices keep you from spending time with friends and family life is SHORT enjoy it all of it.
My daughters in-laws bought a new travel trailer and truck last summer, she retired and was 62, he’s retiring late this next summer, she just passed away unexpectedly 😢 Definitely go while you can 🥰 Blessings
5:35 into video. A great tip from a friend of mine, raise the trailer tongue to see it it lifts the truck a bit to ensure that the hitch is locked in place correctly. I do this all the time. Feels good. :-) Much better than "eyeballing" it.
Good tips for all RV'ers. My only nicks and bumps to my RV I got while trying to use a conventional station. We use Gas Buddy to fill up each morning before we hook up. Also use a Sam's credit card for 5% off our spending each year.
Marc that last shot of you sitting in the captain's chair, as you give some good horn to the Campbell family when they pass you guys on the highway say's it all pretty much. You can see and almost feel the comfort and peace as you wheel the truck and airstream down the road. Safe travels to you guys, looking forward to the new season adventures.
We really like our equalizer hitch as well. Our one recommendation would be to buy the nylon pads for the bars that hook to the camper makes a 100% difference in noise.
Love the video this week! If you are thinking about a new weight distro hitch, consider an Anderson hitch. It uses chains and rubber bushings. No squeaking/creaking and you don't take it off to back up into your campsite. I love my system, highly recommend!!!
Love you guys! I'm 76, my partner is 74, we will be hitting the road with grandchildren and dog this spring. Ann has not had time to watch you because she is busy with the kids while get the camper ready. 26' Cherokee Grey Wolf, pulled by our new Ram 2500 Cummins. We will watch you guys religiously while on the road.
Marc and Trish I’ve watched your videos for years now. Yours was the first RUclips that I found when my husband and I made the crazy decision to full time RV when we retire. Well it’s taken 5 years of dreaming, scheming, planning and praying but yesterday we bought our new home. As we hooked up for the first time and drove it home I kept telling my husband to take his time…rushing makes mistakes. At every turn I thought WWMD…what would Marc do! We made it home safe and sound👍. Thank you both for being my guide and my guru.
We love the details Mark! Learn something new every time and it reminds us that things will go wrong , but all is fixable. Look forward to ya’ll every Sunday!
The first thing most diesel truck buyers do is lie about their mileage. "I was pulling a 90' trailer with 2 gazillion pounds on it and I got 34 mpg while going up a 7% mountain grade at 85 mph."
We have never owned an RV. We slept once in someone else's, and slept in our backyard in a tent once, but for some reason, we are totally enjoying watching y'all set up your camper. You make this look easy and fun.
I am in California and diesel is about 6.50 and gas is 6:15. In spite of that, I am taking an epic trip from Florida to California and traveling to many of the national parks here.
How blessed are we to be able to pick up and go! I calculate mpg every tank full, many variables to consider, big one is tire pressure, when the tire pressure is correct it will increase the mpg. I always give a double honk when passing or being passed by fellow rv’ers
Marc, I have had both the Blue Ox and the Equalizer and hands down, I loved the Equalizer. The Blue Ox was a great hitch but I like the functionality of the Equalizer better. It was also quieter when towing and turning. Good luck and safe travels!
I love me some MPG calculations! I keep track of each and every fill up in my truck and maintenance items in a log book. What the date was, price per gallon, total price, trip, odometer, and where it was. It's cool to look back and see where you've been, how much gas has changed, and nerd out on the MPG's as well! Great video!
Hey Mark, I can tell you from experience that the Equal-i-zer hitch is great. Also, another time saver trick is to paint chain link number 6 a different color so you don't have to count when hooking up. If you do get the Equal-i-zer hitch, make sure and get the friction pads. The pads really help keep the noise down. Love the videos!
We have the Blue Ox hitch and do the very same thing with the chain link. We just took some nail polish and painted the correct link RED. Great tip. Its stuff like this that makes life on the road so much easier. Great tip.
We slowed our speed to increase the mpg. Went from 70mph to 64mph on the interstate. Gained 3mpg. There’s ways to do this if your willing to be flexible. Thanks KYD for all the inspiration!!
Retiring from a career as a heavy duty truck and equipment mechanic, with 12 years in law enforcement. More than 40 years I've used Amsoil products and sold it to my customers. It is a superior lube and the only one to consistently increase fuel economy. Usually 3 mpg. I had a 95 Frieghtliner FL 70 7 mpg when I got, I went through the entire truck changing every fluid to Amsoil. Front hubs ran in gear lube, engine, Allison 6 spd , final drive, ujoints, event flushed the P/ S, putting Amsoil fluid in it as well. Picked up 5 mpg. Running their oil filtration system oil change interval goes by oil testing, 100,000 mile still test fit for use.
I adore you guys. Thank you for being positive about the gas prices instead of complaining or trying to make it political. I watch all your videos and, after we get our new truck, will get back to a few camping trips each summer. Until then, I will live through you and your wonderful family. You are fun and inspirational. Love the how-to tips.
Hi Marc, I keep watching you hold your backup camera in your hand or set it on your consol when you use it. We actually use black electric tape and tape our backup camera it on the rear view mirror. We figured we can't see out our rearview mirror anyway (we have a 5th wheel), so this allows us to use our backup camera as the rear view mirror. We always travel with the backup camera attached to rear view mirror then remove it once we unhook. Thanks for all the great info in your series!
Marc, two things on my mind. 1. What makes you choose a bumper pull over a 5th wheel? 2. Have you thought about adding an auxiliary transfer tank in your bed with a pump and switch? I have an '04 F350 with a 51 gallon mid-ship and a 60 gallon reserve. The range is RIDICULOUS!
Hi Marc & Trish - I’m loving the start of this season!! We have been full time for just over three years and we try to see what we aren’t using in our Class A annually. My husband is better at it than myself, but he’s a little ADD on organizing the outside bins. One thing we are doing this year is adding insulation to the storage bins inside to keep our inside cooler in the summer & warmer in the winter when we aren’t in say snow bird locations. Thanks for all you do for the RV community. Your positive attitude and looking at the glass half full is very up lifting!! Hope to see you on the road someday to thank you personally. Safe travels and bring us along with you. 👏👏👏😊💞🇺🇸
Thank you also for the tips about planning for night arrivals. A few minutes planning along the way would have made life much easier for those times we had to push a little further down the road.
Thanks guys! Picking up our new F350 DRW diesel when we get back from a week long cruise, then planning our trip to Ohio to grab our newly built Redwood 5th wheel. Hopefully the fuel prices start to normalize by the end of the year. Thank you for all of the great information.
Glad you guys are back on the road again. I look forward to seeing your videos that bring bright smiles and laughs. Thanks for sharing your travels and time with your subscribers.
A tip about cost savings and the high cost of fuel. With fuel economy being important now more than ever, weight reduction is a way to save a little. We recently had our first outing for this year with our RV. While prepping the RV I reduced some weight by weeding out some things we did not need. Little things add up two of the things I did among other things, was drain the water heater. This netted approximately a 60 lb. Reduction. Another thing to do is to travel with only one of the two propane tanks full. This netted a 20 lb. Reduction. With all the things done, I estimate about a 175 lb. Reduction in weight. I gained a mile per gallon while towing on our trip. We are part time RVers so this is not monumental to us, however full time RVers. Would see more benefit. We have a 32 ft. TT pulled with 1 /2 ton Chevy gasoline.
So great to see you back in the Airstream! We use the Equalizer on our Airstream and it has worked out great. Love the tips that you share, we have learned from you! We look forward to watching your weekly adventures - safe travels!
Hey Mark. Something to think about. I put a hitch receiver on the front of my F-350 to make it easier to maneuver my trailer in my back yard. Game changer.
Marc and Trish, we so appreciate knowledge shared, including the 'oops' moments. We look forward to tagging along as we pull out our Airstream and hit the road ourselves. KYD Nation!
We just got back to NJ from TX. 1795 miles averaging 7.8 mpg with my gas Silverado 2500 towing our 35’ fifth wheel. It does add up but, we save $$ by having my wife make sandwiches while I gas up. I usually book ahead so that I can check pricing and then we have a goal for the day. Every little bit helps.
We just took a Spring Break trip to Joshua Tree and Death Valley. Diesel in Death Valley was $9.99 a gallon. Was very thankful to only pay $4.70 across the border in NV!
I look forward to your videos every week. So sometimes when I just can’t wait until Sunday to see your next video., I watch some of your pass videos. My favorite to Watch is the videos from Mackinac Island, when you stay at camp sites were the kids meat friends, whenever you’re with the Coopers, when ever Tricia is cooking and the trip you took to the BVI. I’ve watched that several times. I enjoy the travel days so much. I love to travel. Thanks, and be safe.
Just an awesome channel; a definite FAVORITE. I "nerd out" on fuel milage every fill up in our Expedition and find the trip computer is also fairly accurate. Be safe and well!
A big tank is nice but it also adds a lot of weight. I recently purchased a used 2008 Dodge Ram 3500 Big Horn with the 6.7 cummins and i was pleasantly surprised with our first tow experience. We towed a car hauler with my Jeep Grand Cherokee from Biloxi Mississippi to Knoxville Tennessee and we averaged 17 mpg. Im getting as much as 22 mpg on the highway when not towing.
We used the TSD card for the first time on a trip from Memphis - Nashville - Mammoth Caverns - Long Island and found even with the higher price at truck stops we still saved close to 150 dollars on three fill-ups of our class A RV. We were very careful and stopped at locations where we garnered the most significant savings.... The card is worthwhile and we would highly recommend.
i may be in the small minority, but I enjoy the 'informational' pieces far more than the 'travelogues'. We have been rving for more than 40 years (seven rigs) so I know quite a bit about the lifestyle and issues that accompany it, but it never hurts to have different take on things you know. I still have things I can learn as well. your episode (probably a couple of years old now) about pairing a tow vehicle with your rig was EXTREMELY helpful as we moved up to a 5th wheel. As a matter of fact it convinced me that the "half ton" 5th wheel we bought needed to be towed by a 3/4 ton vehicle. I would have been very unsafe, payload wise, with the half ton vehicle. Keep these coming, please!
Good to see you traveling again! I like the little tips, this time the tongue jack gets my attention. Don't forget the fuel savings by cutting trailer weight too. Trish helped with those spices and coffee mug! Love to see your smiles
I bought a trailer mover about 12 years ago. No remote control, steering was by armstrong. I really like it. Mine is operated with AC power with an extension cord while using the 12 volt battery for the brakes. I hope that you enjoy your new toy and have no concerns.
Hey Marc - I could not function without my rear view camera - even just driving. I suction-cup the backup screen up above to the glass of the sunroof, so there is no dash-clutter it works really well. I totally love my Equalizer greeat WD and zero sway with my 27 ft. Rockwood Ultra Lite TT.
You both have been one of our favo creators for years. and you are still awesomely inspiring to watch. sending my husband this one lol.. we have needed to wash the RV for months. 😂
Great video! Side note, I got Trish's cookbook on Friday! I was so excited it's beautiful. You can see the hard work she put into it. So excited to start cooking. Picking up our new to us travel trailer in Tampa on Wednesday! This will be a summer to remember!!
The blue ox is better than an equal-I-zer! Take it from an equal-I-zer owner! Here’s why: 1. The blue ox is easier to assemble/install- less parts- less adjustment. The tilt angle is made into the blue ox hitch head- no washers to adjust hitch head angle. The equal- I -zer has to be disassembled to clean and grease. The blue ox has grease fittings. In my opinion the blue ox is a superior design, easier to use day by day, and requires less maintenance. You’d be better off to stick with your blue ox. If you really want to do comparison, get a ProPride ppp hitch. My 2 cents lol
I use the manual trailer valet 5x to put my my trailer under a carport next to garage. There is no way to back it in. It is also nice to have for those tight camp sites.
The info on travel and gas was good. But have to say I'm in love with Charlie. When he started to play after getting into the Airstream with Trish I just wanted to give him a big bear hug. He is just adorable. What a sweetheart.
Thank god you got rid of the bird! One thing you didn't mention is towing speed.Slowing down will give you huge benefits.I now tow @ around 64mph ,towing my 21K Mobile Suite and mileage picked up significantly!
That is some good fuel mileage, I average between 9.5 to 13 .4. When pulling . I have a 26 foot flag staff, and pull with a ram . ( Cummins) , I have also found out keeping it at. 65 mph or slower makes a big difference, in my mpg…
Thanks Mark for keeping it so positive......"gas prices"...... I loved the comment "this too shall pass"!!!!!! We love seeing you guys and hearing about all your adventures. Stay safe and healthy....... Enjoy 2022..........
I have been keeping my eye on this channel for a few years now and I find it really interesting that even the biggest RV-living channels can't seem to get past 500K subs. I wonder why that is!
Now, in your spare time do a cost per mile analysis taking into account the following: Fuel DEF Scheduled maintenance - oil, diff oil, coolant, trans oil, transfer case oil, front hubs, power steering, and misc filters changes and whatever the manual calls for. Trailer needs too like wheel bearings. (remember to use the severe duty intervals) Unscheduled repairs like tires, brake service and unanticipated repairs.
Great Video, You hooked your breakaway cable to the receiver hitch. Wrong, each year, there are reports of times the receiver hitch welds fail and the receiver hitch along with the the breakaway cable attached to the trailer go running away. Attach the cable somewhere to the bumper or frame of the towing vehicle. I pulled one of the trim bolts from the bumper and installed a eye bolt to attach the cable to. Rare as it is, just an extra level of safety.
Thinking about the fuel mileage discussion. We last camped ~1990 with a Ford Country Squire wagon and a Jayco pop-up. Now retired empty nesters, we bought a Grand Design 2150RB. We have a few short mid-week trips planned and then a ~six week trip from Pa to Phoenix via a northern route west, southern route back east. We’ll be staying at state and county campgrounds, Harvest Host, etc. We have no desire for an RV park. A couple months ago I ordered a new F250 with the “Godzilla” motor, but am not sure if it will arrive in time for the trip. For now we’re using our 2018 F150. I’m not sure that the towing fuel mileage will be much different between the trucks. Thanks so much for the valuable content that you give us every Sunday.
I'm loving the new content. I'm a bit of a technical "nerd" myself. LOL! I have a travel trailer and haul it around with a Duramax. Fuel prices have me rethinking my travel plans this year.
Since our visit in Merus Park I have slowed my pulling of the Airstream down to 55 which has allowed me to get 12 mpg from my f150 3.5 hybrid and 25 when not towing!
Another interesting video! Thanks for sharing your experiences and ideas. Fuel prices are definitely a major concern, especially for those of us who drive diesels. The prices you showed were causing my heart to race! Yikes! I just filled up at a local truck stop and paid $4.73⁹ for #2 diesel (in Weatherford, TX). I'm averaging just shy of 18 mpg in mixed driving (some stop-and-go plus freeway). Straight freeway driving gives me about 20-21 mpg. I pull the trailer for the first time this year over the coming weekend to a men's retreat about 70 miles away, so it will give us a good sense of towing mileage possibilities. Safe travels, y'all!
Fuel prices are insane all over the world at the moment. Here in the UK we're paying £1.86/L ($10.58/Gallon). I pay approx £90 ($112.50) to fill my 1.6 diesel Ford Focus at the moment and it's really impacting how we live our daily lives, never mind with the trailer on the back!
I have the same truck and I don't get 13-15/MPG!! Hmmmm. But then I do a lot more City driving... I hope that's the reason.... Always learn something new with your videos!!! We tow a trailer also and much of the info I already knew; BUT not putting the electric hitch up all the way was a new one. But I must say it's always nice to have facts reinforced!! Thank you for all the details. But then again that is who you are!! Such a nerd!
Great video. I’m brand new to the RV/trailer scene, so I always appreciate any advice and tips I can get. Got my new 2500 Duramax Silverado LT two weeks ago... after 3 months of looking for one lol, and a 36’ fifth wheel just a few days ago. I averaged about 11 mpg my first short trip, but the truck isn’t even broken in (had about 725 miles). I’m also pulling 12k pounds, so I don’t think that’s too bad, especially going through some mountains and steep grades. I probably won’t travel too far with gas prices this summer and wasn’t planning to, but it will be a great summer anyways. Thanks for sharing and glad you guys are having fun!
Stay away from California! I paid $6.85 for diesel in Petaluma(north bay). A couple from Arkansas was filling up their class A bus bus and they were not happy! I love your channel. We purchased a 2021 30’ international and your videos have been very helpful. We will be staying reasonably close to home this year as there is an awful lot to see nearby.HAPPY TRAILS!
Thank you for sharing your wealth of knowledge with such humour. You are great role models-both as travel experts and as parents, I look forward to following this year’s adventures! Safe travel, and stay well! Muskoka ON 🇨🇦
The gas prices scared me! I get 12 miles per gallon with my cargo trailer, my gas was averaging $4.70 per gallon. I was in Arizona for 5 months chasing the warmth, but hurried back home to Kansas to sit and park at families driveways. I will be able to save some money, and head out next fall
No need to put the truck in gear to get the ball lock to seat.....simply jump on the bumper of the truck. Love the handlebar mod. I'm still kicking myself for not thinking of that years ago.
KYD Marc & Trish & Caleb - I just sold my Equalizer. Performance great, but always noisy even with grease, which is the main reason I sold it. I was tired of ruining my clothing. I also did not like announcing my entrance to the camp spot with the creaking of the hitch. Almost as bad as blowing the air horn upon arrival. :))))))) I went with the Anderson chains, love it, works just as good as the Equilizer.
We tried the Blue Ox and the EQ. We preferred the EQ hands down. The only negative is the noise. But it’s easier to hitch up and it’s a better drive. I played with the washers in the head a few times to find my happy place but that was me typically overthinking things. Also they make pads to help with the noise.
We have an F250 diesel and pull our 34' 5th wheel. We are averaging 11 miles to the gallon. Based in California, Bakersfield, and are currently in Roswell, NM....
You should consider using a diesel fuel conditioner. I use “HOTSHOTS Everyday” It reduces Regens and improved my Mpg by 2. My duramax runs much smoother at idle too.
Ha! SCRUBBY BLUFF ROAD! I know exactly where that is! That’s one our overnights, while traveling from Florida to PA! Nice job again you guys! See ya next week!
One easy way to save fuel, and I don't see people doing is to slow down. Here in California the speed limit for towing is 55 mph. Now I don't see most people towing a trailer whether it's a travel trailer or a big 18 wheelers driving 55, with the exception of the Costco Wholesale trucks which usually go the limit. We drive a class A motorhome towing a Chevy Spark and I don't exceed 60 mph, and I rather go 55 because the mileage is better. Happy travels.
This winter we traveled 5000 miles from our home in Oregon to the desert SW and back over exactly 3 months. After the trip, my wife made a spreadsheet of the total cost of our trip. It turned out that the cost of fuel compared to campsites/RV sites was nearly identical. This helped me because I do all of the fueling and I was whining about $6.29 diesel in California on the way home. The spreadsheet put it in perspective. Yes the price of fuel hurts, but like you said, skip eating out and economize RV stays and you can still afford your trips.
We tow with a 2018 f250 gas. When we calculated mpg at the pump, it was about 3 miles off. That's 3 less on the truck computer vs my calculations. Towing we get 12-13 mpg.
Sorry but #3 got me laughing 😂
I’m missing the name of the spray🤷♀️
You always have fun great content, thanks!!!
hey Marc 1. Didn't know that Pilot or Flying J offered fuel discount with the fuel card as they offer discount ( not as good as fuel card) via Good Sam....
2. When actually using cards at the pump- credit card first then fuel card or the other way around?
That’s what I was going to ask where he is. Because his contribution was hysterical 🤣when you cut that lock off😂
That’s my big ole family with that new camper at the end of the video!!! Marc and Trish made our day with that honk of the air horn and now we made the channel! We love KYD and the community!
Safe travels from the Campbell family!
Congratulations on your new rig, Campbell family! 😀. Have fun out there!
That is so awesome. We said the same thing we thought that would be cool.
That must have tickled the Campbell kids! (How many in your clan?)
Safe travels to you all!
We had 4 homeschooling kids at one time on the road, it can be done and still keep your sanity!😂
A few tricks we found,
Start with walkie talkies!
1) Two oldest would many times be in the back guiding us (one time it was them and only me, MOM, for a 6 week trip!)
2) each kid had a job to do, and the younger ones got ‘follow up’ duty (Navy clan we are).
Blessings to you all…
and make MEMORIES!!!
Equalizer hitch and their customer service team are amazing. have had mine for 5 years going strong.
A man after my own heart....Love the coffee pot in the truck with you!
@@jamesstark1750 Welcome! Many prayers for your family.
Marc and Trish you have brought so many smiles to me and the whole KYD family over the last 5 years👍Thank You and I ❤️You for that😘
I love Trish's motto: Small changes over time lead to BIG results.
Marc's commercial radio voice is the best 🤣
My wife and I just returned from a trip to AZ last week the night before we left we talked about not going because of the fuel prices she was almost in tears I’ve been dealing with cancer for the past three years so when I’m feeling and doing well we like to take advantage of it what I’m trying to say is don’t let fuel prices keep you from spending time with friends and family life is SHORT enjoy it all of it.
My daughters in-laws bought a new travel trailer and truck last summer, she retired and was 62, he’s retiring late this next summer, she just passed away unexpectedly 😢
Definitely go while you can 🥰
Blessings
@@rnupnorthbrrrsm6123 So sorry for your loss! 🙏

Also use a Sam's credit card for 5% off our spending each year.
do you have a gas truck? if so what kind. I am leaning towards a chevy 2500 gas for my 20ft Jayco trailer. How many mpg do you get?
@@dogtop19 We have diesel. For that size of RV you will do fine and have more fueling locations options.
We'll see you on the road... and honk!
Just purchased my first Travel Trailer and I have been binge watching all your videos. Thank you for the A M A Z I N G content!
Congrats and welcome!
Enjoy the new adventures!!!!
#1 THING is SLOW DOWN, it's amazing how much fuel you save by just easing up on that gas pedal, plus its more enjoyable to travel at a slower pace.
Couldn't agree more.
We have never owned an RV. We slept once in someone else's, and slept in our backyard in a tent once, but for some reason, we are totally enjoying watching y'all set up your camper. You make this look easy and fun.
Adding to my comment because you mentioned Culver. We are local to there. How fun!
I am in California and diesel is about 6.50 and gas is 6:15. In spite of that, I am taking an epic trip from Florida to California and traveling to many of the national parks here.
😳
That’s insane
Hey ! Why the switch from the Hensley to the Equalizer hitch?
Retiring from a career as a heavy duty truck and equipment mechanic, with 12 years in law enforcement.
More than 40 years I've used Amsoil products and sold it to my customers.
It is a superior lube and the only one to consistently increase fuel economy. Usually 3 mpg.
I had a 95 Frieghtliner FL 70
7 mpg when I got, I went through the entire truck changing every fluid to Amsoil.
Got my aircraft mechanic licenses at Embry Riddle back in 1980, great school loved every minute.
My grandpa did that for their boat with his truck with a camper on it
Marc and Trish, we so appreciate knowledge shared, including the 'oops' moments.
Love you guys talkung about the reality of RV like Its highly useful and not boring in the least!!!
KYD is the best of the best in RUclips travel channels!! ❤️ the whole family from Ohio.
Love the tips and positivity with your channel! Enjoy your new adventure this year!
You're doing it right! The savings is not little. Plus it's safer as I keep saying :)
Definitely agree, "Always look at the big picture" So had to take stuff out, always thinking..do we need it ????
We have the Fastway eQuilizer. EXCELLENT!! Get the square trunnions and make sure the trunnions are correct for your tongue weight.
i may be in the small minority, but I enjoy the 'informational' pieces far more than the 'travelogues'.
Interesting point. We were full fresh both ways because we were dry camping.
It’s called sell things and you won’t think about prices of crap anymore . Which is exactly what this family does. Brand yourself and make businesses.
LOVE LOVE LOVE!! Thank You So much for sharing the nitty gritty! This is RVing
The info on travel and gas was good. But have to say I'm in love with Charlie. When he started to play after getting into the Airstream with Trish I just wanted to give him a big bear hug. He is just adorable. What a sweetheart.
Yes thank u. As soon as you asked the question last video I replied to my tv "Yes!" 📺 😃
We get about 9 with our 26’ TT, and a RAM 2500. So true about the speed saving gas/ diesel, it also saves on tire wear too!
Thanks Mark for keeping it so positive......"gas prices"...... I loved the comment "this too shall pass"!!!!!! We love seeing you guys and hearing about all your adventures. Stay safe and healthy....... Enjoy 2022..........
Thank you for this episode. I liked being reminded that there are many ways to "save" on some things to offset the higher diesel prices.
I have been keeping my eye on this channel for a few years now and I find it really interesting that even the biggest RV-living channels can't seem to get past 500K subs. I wonder why that is!
Now, in your spare time do a cost per mile analysis taking into account the following:
Fuel
DEF
Scheduled maintenance - oil, diff oil, coolant, trans oil, transfer case oil, front hubs, power steering, and misc filters changes and whatever the manual calls for. Trailer needs too like wheel bearings. (remember to use the severe duty intervals)
Unscheduled repairs like tires, brake service and unanticipated repairs.
Great Video, You hooked your breakaway cable to the receiver hitch. Wrong, each year, there are reports of times the receiver hitch welds fail and the receiver hitch along with the the breakaway cable attached to
the trailer go running away.
We did Route 66 east to west in a Class C - flat towing a Honda Element - 4/11/22 thru 4/27/22. Fuel cost us $1586 for regular. 🤷♀️
That sounds to me like you know what to do under all situations, they all sound terrific to me!
I am so excited to see how the trailer valet works!!
Fun FYI: I attended Embry-Riddle extension campus (05-09) while in the Navy in San Diego.
Oh Trish, the MOM mug! I love mine too! Given to me by my daughter. Hard to leave behind.
My wifes from Roswell just there this ladt fall travel safe.
12 months makes a BIG difference. Diesel is currently $3.199 and I paid $2.499 with my Tom Thumb grocery discount last night.
You should consider using a diesel fuel conditioner. I use “HOTSHOTS Everyday”
It reduces Regens and improved my Mpg by 2. My duramax runs much smoother at idle too.
I use the same stuff in both my Diesels since new and so far they both have been flawless
