They all look great, I particularly like the bark/stick-ish areas you left on them

Cheers, yeah I think they are my favourite bits too, I did find it really difficult to choose between carving something away and leaving it how I found it!

I love the natural look of all these wands, the natural way you made them, and your enthusiasm for beautiful wood! I'm jealous of your location. There is so much wood to choose from. I primarily use reclaimed/found wood from city alleys, thrift stores, etc. The projects I build are dictated by the wood I have. I also built some wands and made a video.

      @@Patrickitron Thank you!
Gotta love a pretty stick 😁
You just gotta use whatever you have to had, for me the reason why it’s made out of what I can forage nearby is I don’t have the money for wood and not too much access to reclaimed stuff, but I loved how you made the wands in your video out of an old table leg.
When I saw that a lightbulb went off, how to make a wand handle without a lathe, just by an old small table!!
Thanks for the comments, looking forward to seeing your next wand creations (and obviously the spells😁)

I love how all your wands turned out. I've made a few wands myself and enjoy their making. There are so many possibilities. A thought of mine that I'll share with you here. I like to look at wands as miniature walking sticks. I get ideas all the time for walking sticks by looking at wands. Also, I like the somewhat mystical appearance of both. Possibilities are endless if you work with what nature has provided. Keep on, keeping on!

@@OzarkArtsandCrafts I totally agree, wands are great because they can be potentially easier to find and quicker to make than some walking sticks/ baskets so give quick gratification, perfect for an afternoon project!
Thank you again for your kind words, I’m glad you like me how they turned out, it certainly a craft I’m falling for!

For grippier gloves...you can sew a suede patches on the areas you would like more grip. You can also try things like some hot glue or similar (like the grippy lines on the bottom of some socks) on those slippy areas😊

Yea it started out as a quick “let’s see what I can make” kinda video and snowballed into a full process breakdown, so took a lot longer than expected!! 😂
I’d be honoured if it can be used to help any others out!!

Awesome job! The one with the stain don’t look bad at all since the color brought out some of the finer details, however the natural look with just the oils definitely looks better. Also, great thumbnail! 😄

    • @agreatalternative
      @agreatalternative  3 месяца назад +1

The thumbnail is my favourite part now 😁👍
I’ve since watched a couple more videos about staining and maybe I need to sand over the top of the ones I’ve stained with a super fine grit as that gets a ‘better’ end result, but things like ebonizing, or using leather dye seem to end up with a better result
Thanks as always Ben for your comments a support, means a lot 👊

I’m not sure what to attempt yet, I think I want to try friction burning and some other types of carving before I get too intricate.
The best part is finding an interesting ‘stick’, then half the work is done for you! 😁

@@WoodenItBeNice Hey Huw, thank you for the kind words, I’d definitely recommend making a wand, it’s how I’m attempting a lot of the skills before trying them out on a walking stick, plus I’ve found it easier to find wand sized sticks (that don’t need cutting down) over walking sticks.
Hmm that’s odd, to be totally honest though I use RUclips and Instagram mainly, FB was set up by Alicia and it’s rarely used, thanks for letting us know!
