In Xray and CT's (especially in mammography or neuro) they are required to use high fidelity monitors that mimic the spatial resolution of the source machine.. 15 MP medical grade monitors aren't unheard of. Afterall, even slight artifacts could lead to misdiagnosis - which will automatically cost FAR more than a "measly" one-time payment of $25k.... All-in-all the monitor is a cheap but a very important interface of the system in radiology. For instance, the software alone is like $60k (per year if subscription based sometimes), PACS systems can be a cool $1 million, and the top of the line CT and MR machines themselves can cost that much as well plus their maintenance costs. Radiologists make $+300k/year... Add that up and a $25k monitor set up shared among 5-10 readers (attending physicians, residents, students) is actually a cheap and wise investment. You have to pay to play in the big leagues. This is where money is no object... and justifiably so. If it can save a life, prevent misdiagnosis, etc... A one time payment of $25k is cheap. You'd be glad they have the best equipment out there if you had to have brain surgery or a tumor diagnosis. I was actually tasked one day to move the monitor and my supervisor was like... i don't think its too expensive if you take a look at whom this is aimed/marketed at. As linus said, this product, at its weakest configuration costs 12000$ (without VAT btw), and 13000 (or 12.999) with the stand. Most likely at high end configuration you would be looking at around 15000-16000 without VAT. Now sorry, but whoever have the money to buy this at lets say 16000, will have 1k to throw on that stand. This product is mostly aimed, my guess is, at snobs from hollywood, a few studios in hollywood, a few music studios, a few applefags, and probably a few studios in japan and probably 1 in india. They are most likely not expecting to sell more than 10.000 units, my guess is around 1000 will be sold. (maybe less) So, with that in mind, the 1k stand isn't that out of proportions as whoever needs all that, won't look at one grand the same way you or others are looking at it. Is it overpriced? most likely yes Will people that would've bought it at 50$, buy it at 200$ and buy it at 1000$? most likely yes.
@@sergiusprintar5491 That stand gives you nothing though, really. It's not a good stand, not for the price and not at all. At best it's probably a bit better than the equivalent Dell Stand. Rendering professional 4K video will eat that storage right up. The base model literally should have at least 10tb of storage for the price. Seriously for the extra 3000 dollars, I could build a pretty nice file server with loads more storage.
@@dhgmrz17 Most of the people who are going to be buying this are going to already have access to either mind-blowing amounts of storage or be doing live-rendering with the destination unit pulling the data in real time. But yeah, it's still a low amount of storage.
High end video workflows have very little need for internal storage. Even the 4 TB SSD option is nowhere near enough. A 10 minute video project at 1080p can easily use hundreds of gigs of storage…and you can multiply that by 4 or 16 for 4K or 8K, respectively. Since pros are all using external storage, it doesn't make sense to have a large internal SSD as the base config…it will mostly go to waste, and needlessly increases the price.
Kaustavmani Choudhury this is the most unnecessarily critical video on this product. Don’t take a word he says as truth. Apple finally made the Mac pros have been asking for. It’s expensive because it’s for pros; not hobbyists like Linus. Apple made the most powerful computer ever, and obviously the price is going to match. The display nor the stand are overpriced. Look up similar gear. Similar screens without near the specs come in between $8-40K. And yes, usually don’t ship with stands because they’re often mounted/replaced often. Similar accessories from companies like RED can cost $500 plus for silly things like handles! While that doesn’t necessarily excuse the practice, it definitely shows Apple isn’t the only one to blame here. Basically, the Mac Pro and accompanying Pro Display XDR are not for you, nor me, nor even Linus. They’re for real pros that have insane workload and rendering. And for that, it will be the best tool for the job.

At hospitals their monitors cost $25k EACH in the CT/xray radiology department. It's crazy when you want the best, and when money's not an obstacle...
My Amazon basics $29 dollar VESA mount stands work just fine!
@@anonypersona3189 That sounds like epic scam to me. Seriously, all they need is a decent consumer screen.
@@alidee5448 There is some justification (obviously if they could get away with cheaper monitors they actually would...). You know that;s a $25k monitor right? Be CAREFUL. I nearly shat myself moving it past running kids. LOL

To be fair, the low end isn't really an option, it's just there to keep the base price "down". It looks like the $8K version IS actually comparable to building your own with the components. So, yeah, the low end is a waste of money. Always buy the middle spec.
Apple engineers: How expensive you want the mac pro to be?
Tim cook: yes
i admit I was mad at Apple pricing , but when I learned that one of the cores was actually a Rolex , I found it made sense
😂😂😂😂
1000$ stand? Nah I got duck tape
i don't think its too expensive if you take a look at whom this is aimed/marketed at.
(maybe less)
So, with that in mind, the 1k stand isn't that out of proportions as whoever needs all that, won't look at one grand the same way you or others are looking at it.
Is it overpriced? most likely yes
Will people that would've bought it at 50$, buy it at 200$ and buy it at 1000$? most likely yes.
Sergiu Sprintar ya but if they keep doing stuff like this eventually not enough people will buy there products and they will go bankrupt
@@sergiusprintar5491 That stand gives you nothing though, really. It's not a good stand, not for the price and not at all. At best it's probably a bit better than the equivalent Dell Stand.
Apple is making it very hard to get one of those stands over something like a Flo monitor arm and the $200 VESA adapter, which is already considered to be very expensive by itself.
king minion you’re thinking this from the POV of a regular consumer. This product is a seriously “pro” product, geared towards the highest end of video editing markets.. The truth is, it’s not consumers buying these as home PCs, it’s companies buying these. Think along the lines of Pixar.. Disney.. or game developers like CDPR.. Activision.. etc. or even smaller groups like MKBHD’s team.

There's no way it's worth that price. $6,000 with only 256 gigs of storage is an insult.
10Gig ethernet port for uploading your stuff and let them sniff around them.. xD
Stormchild then it should be priced much cheaper I reckon.
this is probably the most informative video I've seen on this product
Not quite, this is: ruclips.net/video/ayrbWKSFN88/видео.html
But i love Linus insight nevertheles. Cannot wait for the full review.
@@nevhoffman I never said that the Mac was garbage. I know who it's for, and also why it costs so much. I was just pointing out that most other videos either fangirl over the Mac, or complain about the stand being $999.
