+R41N M4N You know that flat Earth theory is CIA bullshit to distract you from real problems. Why are you spending time trying to prove this? What do you hope to accomplish? I feel inclined to say that venue/event security guards are not trained in a live shooter situation and do not carry guns or weapons. I read the entire "What Happens If I'm Attacked at Work? A Crew Primer" and the primary message was to get out and don't fight unless you have no other chose. How does this not apply them? To insinuate that they were involved or could/should have done more is not fair.
I think it's possible this guy might just be assuming they got out from the front (that's what really seems to bother and confuse him). they could have gotten out through one of the emergency exits and then just walked towards the front. and i'm not sure what they expected the guards to do about the bodies falling over the barriers when the shooting started. it does seem to be a little harsh of a judgement.
+sunshaped Well I didn't want to bring this to light because I have full faith that he is trying to tell his honest POV of the night events, however there are discrepancies in his story. He goes back a forth with where they were in the building- at the stage vs at the front doors. The reality is he probably does not know- and how could he? Was he really paying that much attention to them? Is was a poor question that should not have been asked; or at least not answered with so much speculation. If anyone in that building had the knowledge and ability to escape with the greatest ease it would be the security guards. I would say the only ethical responsibility they had was to help as many people get out with them as possible. This is how rumors get started. He is providing testimony on an aspect of the night where he really has no knowledge. I think he is still trying to make sense of the night and I think he is trying to speak knowledgeably on a lot more than he can. Its a little troubling to me that he also contradicts himself regarding wether he had line of sight to the shooter(s) or if he was making judgements solely on what he heard. Again I think he is trying to give an honest interview and I cannot imagine trying to piece together a night like that. However I think its important that those of watching understand it for what it is. On mans story. And a thrilling one at that. I wish Shawn my best.
+sunshaped When he was talking about people falling over the barriers he meant before the shooting started, during the gig. If people were falling over the barriers security definitely weren't doing their job properly. I agree though, after the shooting started they wouldn't of been able to do any more to help than anyone else in the room.
+deh052479 hal I think he was miffed partly because they weren't friendly and also partly because they didn't do their jobs (before the shooting). That's something I'd highlight, too. There's a very low probability they had any responsibility, but out of all people in the venue, you'd expect security to be more helpful. He's right about wanting to hire private security for future shows. I think he's basically saying that you can't rely on venue security because they are unpredictable.
+Angela Kate Webster I thought that's what he meant, at first, but then I wasn't sure. it's kind of astounding to only have 4 guards to cover 1500 people, but maybe that's a norm..not really sure. I don't blame Mr. London for venting his frustration at the lack of real security.
+Jim Hutchison Thank you very much for your understanding, I've stared this picture during a long time because I believe as you do, that we have to inflict ourselves with the brutal truth so that we can remember and be aware of victim's trauma. But, I consider myself used to harsh picture and this one still shook me hard. It is very close to me and my friend and we knew that venue. It hits home.
Wow! This interview is really comprehensive and well done. The police response time and the security guard situation are all very chilling, and the media isn't even talking much about that, which is bizarre. I agree that more people need to be trained in firearms and carry them. It's unfortunate that is not a popular opinion. I don't think I'd want to be visiting Europe any time soon, they have draconian gun ownership laws. How the hell are people supposed to protect themselves when security guards are pointless and police take forever to arrive? Heartbreaking about all the people that didn't make it. This is still such a shock.
You are right very few people have talked about the slow response time by police. Actually one police officer entered the venue pretty quickly and actually killed the first terrorist but then he for some reason backed out of the building to wait for the tactical team which then took two hours to get inside. Doesnt make sense, seems like they should have just raided the place within minutes and maybe the number of dead would have been less.
+Jenny Hello Jenny, french here. I'd like to give you some enlightment about your questions. First I don't know about the security guards, but the police investigation said that when the gunmen got in they killed the guards so they couldn't respond. Second is about the police response. In france there is few shootouts, most of them are murders between drug dealers and are done quickly. This was the first time we had such an attack. Our police officers have lights conceled bulletproof vest and 9mm pistols with 1 ou 2 loaders. They don't stand a chance in front of assault rifles, however a police superintendant manage to enter a kill one of them. The things is, few police station have "heavy stuff" since it's rare and that's not enough for every police officers, so they have to try to contains the terrorists outside. Then there is a other problem there is only one entrance and the elite police bases are far away. Everything takes time. Third, we are against the guns in the hand of people because, of course it could help in such a situation, but these are rare. The problem is the danger it represent outside such an attack. How many people could just shot someone by anger instead of punching them? It also become easier to criminals to get one and then decrease the public security actually. Just look the statistics. 3,400: Americans who died by Terrorism since 2001 3,400: Americans who died by household Firearms since five weeks ago. 400,000: Americans who died fighting in World War II. 400,000: Americans who died by household Firearms since 2001 In my opinion this is way enough to say no.
+Jenny The cops are very well prepared for this, especially since the january attack - they adapt a lot of their tactics, it is just the time it take ; The cops didn't knew how many terrorists were in the venue, they didn't knew how heavy they were armed bomb-wise neither. You can go berserk in there and be responsible for a worst tragedy, they act the way they should, by taking the necessary time to know terrorists positions and to know how to procede aiming to save more lives and avoid explosions.
Merci pour votre réponse, je suis vraiment désolé, c'est terrible... I understand that this was a one-of-a-kind attack and that there are a lot of variables, and I certainly don't want to make the situation worse by speculating. I think coming from an American perspective, we are used to quick police response times, and I do hope that Europe in general increases its security measures. You've definitely enlightened me on the strategies and tactics I didn't think about. However, in my opinion, I believe in terrorist situations it is best to disarm them as quickly as possible, even if that means blowing themselves up, because they are already suicidal. Negotiating or waiting allows them to get what they want. They need the element of surprise. In regards to gun control, I am a believer in arming the population after there have been so many shootings locally. It at least deters the criminals from thinking they can take out everyone one by one. Criminals have no problems getting their hands on guns but law-abiding citizens do. Which is why it's so imperative to give law-abiders that right and also teach them how to properly handle it before they can use it. It will prevent accidental deaths. Indeed, it is a complicated situation and there is no easy answer. Thank you both for your thoughtful responses and my heart goes out to all of you.
+Jenny With all due respect, I think that your tactical point of view can lead to a lot more human loss - but, what is sure is that now French SWAT has to be able to intervene on multiple locations in the same amount of time as one location need. Because - the terrorist attack was conduct on at least - 5 or 6 locations, so that was an unexpected situations that must have slowed their operations. But - this is the harsh reality of terrorism, it's unpredictable, the first safety is the good cohabitation of people, but if one wants to spread chaos, nothing can really stop him, they'll always be ahead because it's so easy to spread chaos and so hard to predict all those crimes. And you know it ; 9/11, Boston, the weekly mass shooting in a school that you have, etc. Arming people so they can defend them can be useful sometimes but the rest of the time it increase a lot the murders statistics - I mean, you know your country right? You loose more people a month due to guns that us due to terrorists attack on a ten years period. So, yeah, with guns, some innocent can maybe save their life but a lot more innocent people are going to die in the bigger picture.
Great interview. You did much better than Vice did, which gave each member only a few minutes. You got 30 mins from 1 guy. Do you guys know each other out of curiosity?
+Rhezoloution Nah, I haven't met Shawn yet. He's gonna get a serious fucking hug when I do meet him though. I'm an industry person, he's an industry person, we just float in similar circles.
+Rhezoloution Vice only presented clear, concise and verifiable accounts/information on what occurred, which is why it was shorter. Longer is not necessarily better. This interview contains a lot of speculation and that should be acknowledged. I hope people can recognize that. This interview is great, but for different reasons. It allows for a stream of conscious retelling of the night from one mans perspective; and it acknowledges the industry itself which is hard to find anywhere else.
I saw Eagles Of Death Metal in Manchester 6 days before the Bataclan attack. There seemed to be loads of security, so I am shocked to hear the revelations regarding security in this video. It definitely makes me wonder if the guards were involved. I don't want to stop going to see my favourite bands because then terrorism wins, so I hope these sort of events will be covered better by police etc in future. Lots of love to EODM. xxx
+CERV78misc I'm sure your chances of dying from terrorism are still much less than being hit by an automobile, or even falling and hitting your head in your own home, and probably less than being hit by lightning. The powers that be want you to be afraid- always remember that.
+Bammy Shore Yeah, that was the most glaring problem with his story, and the fact that he had to dive under the console and so had to rely on his ears. He did mention peaking through (the whatever) from under the console late in the interview and could see the guy's head, but there's no way the shooter stayed in one place too long, etc... and it would've still been pretty dark in there... that claim smelled of b.s.
+blewwsviews the house lights had been turned on, so it wasn't dark. there were at least 3 shooters. maybe he did see them a little bit when they were in front of the mixing area.
+blewwsviews I'm not able to go thru this entire video right now, but if it isn't in this video, maybe it was in an interview with another survivor that it was mentioned. and I think I read it somewhere too. defintely saw more than one mentioning of it. I think the interview where I heard it was the one done with the guy named Pierre something, he's a tv or radio presenter who was at the show with friends. it's a long interview done with Sophie Shera-something from the RT news channel. he called the woman in charge of lighting a hero because she was shot, but she seemed to have the presence of mind to turn the lights to possibly help people see what was going on and maybe find a way out.
+blewwsviews here's one article where one survivor talks about the lights. www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/france/11995708/Dramatic-video-shows-clubbers-fleeing-Bataclan-theatre-and-clinging-to-windows-amid-gun-attack.html
Shawn, thanks for sharing your story. I like your take on it's not a religion or a people, but a few sick fucks. I hope things get better for you. Jim, thanks for bringing it to the masses.
it is horrific that 90 people lost their lives, and thank God there weren't many more deaths, but I find it pretty amazing that over 1400 people got out of there alive considering how long the shooting went on and how vigilant the terrorists supposedly were in watching over the crowd. this account of how the security guards were able to get outside easily..well, that seems pretty sketchy, and the timeline of the police response seems pretty ambiguous, overall. the Guardian had a timeline of the events saying the police first got there at 10pm, 20 mins after the shooting started (!!!), and only one guy went in at that time. ONE. what is that about?? he supposedly had a confrontation with one of the shooters whose vest was detonated, and he left for backup. Then, it took another little while for more cops to show up. this kind of response is unfathomable, but I'm not even sure it's an accurate timeline. in all the survivor accounts I've heard, no one talks about the police coming in till way later. it sounds completely f-ed up. this was the most comprehensive account of that night I've seen so far. really good interview and heartwrenching account, and quite convincing in its support for concealed carry.
+sunshaped It seems to me you are forgetting one thing: before the attack at the Bataclan a couple of guys blew themselves up outside a stadium with 80k people in it, then others shot dozens of people at bars and restaurants. I think it's safe to assume that most of the initial response from the police was focused on sending people to those venues, which is surely what the terrorists had planned, to buy them more time to freely kill as many people as they could at the concert hall. Just think of the number of emergency calls that the police must've had from outside these other places even before someone told them that something was happening at the Bataclan. I'm not saying that the french police acted perfectly, just pointing out that the whole attack was carefully planned to create a lot of confusion prior to moving in to the place were they knew they'd cause the highest number of casualties. Under those circumstances I don't think that 20 minutes is an extraordinarily slow response.
+kwarsha yes, I get that, (still think 20 mins is a very long time, though)..but I'm curious about the logic of sending just one officer into the venue. maybe they were already worried about bombs and didn't want to risk losing more than one officer. it's just frustrating because it seems like more could have been done sooner to stem the free reign of the terrorists. it's frustrating that it was that helpless of a situation. it is pretty remarkable, though, that none of the hostages that were holed up in the room with the gunmen towards the end were hurt in the gunfire when the police finally rammed through and got them out. that operation seems to have been relatively successful.
+sunshaped I think the slow response time makes sense do to the explosions at the stadium. All the police were dealing with that and I doubt any of them expected more attacks.
+sunshaped They didn't send just one police to the venue, he just happened to be patrolling in the neighborhood and answered the call before anyone else did. He acted on the call and backed down when the special forces came. It's only logical that most of the police's resources were directed to the football stadium due to the explosions at the time.
I just found this and thought it was interesting to read after hearing the comments about the security staff- mobile.lemonde.fr/attaques-a-paris/article/2015/11/17/videur-pas-soldat-pas-membre-du-gign_4811400_4809495.html?xtref=http%3A%2F%2Fm.facebook.com%2F
+Caitlin Sagan Interesting, so they got out through the emergency exit if I am reading correctly. Most people probably didn't know where that was. Hopefully they did the right thing and brought other people with them.
Very sad... Glad Shawn is Okay. My heart goes out to all those lost, and the friends and family of those affected by this tragedy.
Thank you for this interview.

***** Answer this: what are you hoping to accomplish by spreading awareness?
I feel inclined to say that venue/event security guards are not trained in a live shooter situation and do not carry guns or weapons. I read the entire "What Happens If I'm Attacked at Work? A Crew Primer" and the primary message was to get out and don't fight unless you have no other chose. How does this not apply them? ONE. what is that about?? he supposedly had a confrontation with one of the shooters whose vest was detonated, and he left for backup.
+rampsayss thanks for clearing that up, that makes a whole lot more sense. the Guardian left out that detail.
Weird about the security guards. I hope he mentioned that to the police...
This guy has either been completely fooled by the exercise, or is is a pathetic liar.
I just found this and thought it was interesting to read after hearing the comments about the security staff-

+Caitlin Sagan Interesting, so they got out through the emergency exit if I am reading correctly. Most people probably didn't know where that was. Hopefully they did the right thing and brought other people with them.
Good man. Don't understand why you are showing this foto in the end. It is so disrespectful.
sad.
Why didn't this guy try to rush the shooter from behind! He knew their locations !! Weird
liar
