OK, wait - a $500,000 home in Mexico (in that particular city) is "not the most luxurious, but certainly above a starter home"?! REALLY?!! That is pretty pricey!! I CAN get a pretty luxurious home for that much, in the suburbs on Minneapolis! I hope he misspoke! I thought prices were supposed to be a lot less down there! I recently built a home in the suburbs of Mpls for around $340,000 (including the lot). I wouldn't say it's "luxurious" - but it's pretty darn nice - including very nice (and chosen by me) Viscount granite countertops - along with custom treatments throughout the house. Don't mind me while I freak out over prices.

Very informative video. Wow Ajijic has really gotten expenses, but if you like the neighborhood it is all good I guess. I am not sure these prices would be for me as I can find all those prices here in California. I am surprised by the prices he quoted because even Baja California is cheaper.

I don't live on either coast and a lot of the prices mentioned are very expensive. So if you want to live in Mexico, I just can't see the savings unless I want to live far away from town.

northofyou33 Well, I have not met Jerry and Lori, so I can't call him a huckster. He has given me some good information and ideas for expats when it comes to other details like passports, what they pay for expenses, etc. I have seen him do a couple of "guest" spots on other RUclips channels and he and especially were much more relaxed in those videos. So, maybe his "style" huckster-ish???

hi Lori and Jerry! truly enjoy your videos! i retired 23 years ago when i was 37 and have been living all over the world...from cambodia to thailand to philippines to taiwan.....mostly helping abandoned children (helpinghelplesschildren.org). This past year I've been in sandiego taking care of my ill mom. Seriously thinking about moving us to lake chapala area since living here is so prohibitively expensive (just our condo hoa and tax is almost 10,000usd per year!) in Asia i was living like a king on 300usd per month including rent and eating out daily. Hope to meet you guys down there....ps....where is Lori from?....

Of course I may be wrong but my take on this interview is that this guy being interviewed is exactly the type of person I want to get away from in leaving the US and would not want to know if I were to move to Mexico. I am disappointed. I am looking for a place with expat "real people" who want to blend in amicably with the population and aren't interested in the pools and the gated communities and sitting around being rich and swilling wine. That said I am loving your videos.

I have made the mistake of judging people in the past, I no longer do it, he seems nice, so what if he prefers wine over cerveza, he is probably a good realtor and you don't have to become bff's, one thing we all have in common is wanting to live in Mexico, for me that's a good start.

$1 USD to $16-18 Peso. So the USD has more value. That's what they mean when you hear it's cheaper to live in Mexico than the US. Say you never had USD only Pesos it would not be cheap.

No on Hawaii. Mexico is my goal, or Portugal and Spain.
But I have 10 years until retirement and I keep seeing housing prices in Mexico going higher and higher. Seems like Californians move there and don’t mind paying high prices because they compare it to California prices and think it is cheap. Especially in Cabo area.
