There's a pretty good alt-country version of this song with Peter Wolf and Mick Jagger on the soundtrack of The Ice Harvest,a gem of a john Cusack movie.
Hope he lives on and on and on and on, for another 30 years at least. He will become 66 soon and then still playing with this wonderfull rythm and melody like only he can do. It's getting better and better. Wishing he will visit Holland again (now 11 years ago).
Its amazing. HE is the man. You see all these people cover leo tunes on videos and even the professionals who have signature guitars and everything....CANT DO IT THE RIGHT WAY.....ON A 12 STRING
It's always nice to see current footage of Leo performing. I had never seen him do this tune before......I especially liked hearing a couple "Vaseline Machine Gun" riffs hidden in this tune (e.g. between 1:47 and 1:50) Thanks for posting!
This is what I like to call chicken plucking(playing style) me and an old friend would sit around back in 80s and early 90s just doing our best with our guitars and total lack of training, lol. And we would have at it often in this sort of style, we amused the hell out of our selves. Unfortunately our women were often jealous of the time we spent together and I haven't seen Matt in 25 years but we grew up together and enjoyed each other emeansly. Half ass players at best but the tines we had.
wish this was better sound quality because i cant find him playing this song anywhere and its just a little hard to hear the vocals and guitar at the same time
+Derek Costen Nothing but the Wheel By Peter WolfWhen I'm passed the boulevards Out here underneath the stars I've been flyin' past the houses, farms and fieldsLeavin' all I know, back home Rushin' through the cold night air I'm holdin' on to nothin', but the wheelStayin' clear of the interstate I'm seekin' out those old two lanes An' tryin' to explain the way I feelTill all at once it's half past three An' it's down to the trust and me An' I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheelI've been tryin' to drive you off my mind Let it that way be, I can leave it all behindAn' forty one goes on and on An' the lights go winding in the dawn An' the sky's the color now of polished steelAn' the only thing I know for sure You don't want me anymore Then I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheelI've been tryin' to drive you off my mind An' let it that way baby, I can leave it all behindAn' the only thing I know for sure Is you don't want me anymore An' I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheel An' I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheelGettin' down old forty one An' forty one takes on and on An' the lights go winding in the dawn An' I'm holdin' on in the corner, yeahI'm holdin' on, holdin' on, holdin' on, holdin' on An' the only thing I know for sure Is you don't want me anymore An' I'm holdin' on to nothin' but the wheel, oh yeah

No, but he played his usual and told many stories and was fantastic! :-)
+Ingrid Guerci ya his stories are always pretty great!
+Derek Costen And i cant find this song as a download anywhere
Unbelievable!
Could not have said it better. Go back to Patty Loveless. No one could top her.
I'd love to hear Leo and Patty Lovelace do a duet of this.
I wish he had sung this when he was here in Texas!
First. time I heard this I thought it was "holdin' onto nothin' but the WIND." I kinda like that better, actually.

Nothing but the Wheel
By Peter WolfWhen I'm passed the boulevards
Out here underneath the stars
I've been flyin' past the houses, farms and fieldsLeavin' all I know, back home
Rushin' through the cold night air
I'm holdin' on to nothin', but the wheelStayin' clear of the interstate
I'm seekin' out those old two lanes
An' tryin' to explain the way I feelTill all at once it's half past three
An' it's down to the trust and me
An' I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheelI've been tryin' to drive you off my mind
Let it that way be, I can leave it all behindAn' forty one goes on and on
An' the lights go winding in the dawn
An' the sky's the color now of polished steelAn' the only thing I know for sure
You don't want me anymore
Then I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheelI've been tryin' to drive you off my mind
An' let it that way baby, I can leave it all behindAn' the only thing I know for sure
Is you don't want me anymore
An' I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheel
An' I'm holdin' on to nothing but the wheelGettin' down old forty one
An' forty one takes on and on
An' the lights go winding in the dawn
An' I'm holdin' on in the corner, yeahI'm holdin' on, holdin' on, holdin' on, holdin' on
An' the only thing I know for sure
Is you don't want me anymore
An' I'm holdin' on to nothin' but the wheel, oh yeah

+Derek Costen This is him at his best, it's a shame the sound quality is so lousy.
such splendid playing, too bad the sound quality is so bad, I wonder if the echo can be reduced.
