Thanks for the review! One additional difference between the AKJV95 in this video and the AKJV90D is that the AKJV95 has an ebony fretboard, whereas the AKJV90D has a rosewood fretboard.
I just bought this model guitar from MF yesterday. Should be in this week. Yours is the only review I could find on this model. Before your review I was nervous about my choice, now I feel I'll be happy with my guitar. Thanks for a great review.
Great job Steve. I thought it was great that you went back-and-forth between jazz and blues, especially at the end when you got a little bit into a Larry Carlton sort of feel. Nicely done.
Love your playing, I’m just getting into jazz guitar and took the plunge on this model after watching your demo numerous times. Thanks for putting this out there, look forward to checking out more of your channel and hearing more from you.
Hi! Guys! I brought one too around 2 months before but I didn't think too much actually since it just catch up my eyes when I meet this good one first time. Finally, I don't get wrong choice . LoL
Cool, nice playing, was just trying this one out at the guitar shop and they had what looked like the same one but beat up, i thought it was from all the people trying it at the store haha good to know it was done on purpose.
I have the same guitar, AKJ 95 in sunburst. I use this guitar together with my vintage Fender Tremolux tube amp. I bought it used in about 1961. I am not able to get the warm jazz tones that you are getting. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Love your playing and the sound you get with this guitar. Been shopping around and I think you just sold me! Out of curiosity, which strings and pick were you using here?
Hey Steven, Loved your playing. And loved the sound of this instrument. Sound is the main thing I'm concerned about for a jazz guitar and this one seems to just do it right. At least for a demo video this sounded better than some significantly more expensive guitars on vids I've watched (including Benedetto and Collings. ) I wonder what amp you were using, and how you recorded. Did you mike the amp? And did you play though an interface? Etc. Just loved the tasty song selection too. .
Hey Philip thanks for watching and thanks for the compliment. I was playing through a Fender Blues Jr. recorded via Shure SM58 microphone right in front of the amp going into a Scarlett solo USB interface. Other than that I did some very minimal eq adjustments in logic afterwards.
@@StevenRichisonGuitar ok I can tell as I found both second hand and have both currently. They have nothing in common! Completely different guitars, I prefer the Ibanez - they don’t quite fit the same purpose. Having said that I haven’t tried to put flat strings on the Godin. Thanks for your comment and review
Where did you get the idea top was solid. 99.9 sure it is not. I saw one ad that said something about a solid connection but no where did I see a solid top. I think you are not accurate on that bro but nice playing. Thanks Steve
Excellent demo Steve. The subject was well covered. Awesome playing and a joy to listen to. What was the source of the overdrive sounds. I have a Blues Jr and hope I can duplicate your sound.
Hey thank you for the comment. Did you end up getting one? I roll the tone knob back to 3-5, depending on the guitar; I've found that using a compressor contributes to the "roundedness" of the attack.
Thanks! It's been a while, but I believe I was playing through my Fender Blues Jr., mic'd with an SM58, straight into Logic; rolled the tone knob back a bit on the guitar and probably did a little compression and EQ in Logic.
Incredible sound! Sounds like a ES 175 with lows as they should be for a jazz box. What are your settings on the amp? I can't reach that thick sound with my Epiphone Broadway, even with Gibson Classic pickups upgrade and tomastik flat wound strings, on a Fender Hot Rod. Do you roll off tone and volume on the guitar? To my opinion, this is not solid spruce top but laminated. Ibanez uses to tell this when the table is solid. How did you conclude that it is solid? I am considering switching from the Broadway to this model, thanks to your video!
Richard, I have my all the EQ on my amp set at 12 o'clock more or less. If I recall correctly, I had the tone knob rolled back to about 3 or 4 for the neck pickup sounds. I'm playing through a Fender Blues Jr.. The Fender Hot Rod you mentioned is actually a pretty bright sounding amp, or at least the one I owned was. I also added some compression (very little) on the guitar tracks. The top is listed as solid on the Ibanez website. I was skeptical of this as well so I asked a Sweetwater rep, and he assured me it was solid; but then again he could've just been going off of the same information I read! It could very well be laminate, but I don't think so. If so, it's a high quality laminate. Thanks for watching and for your comment!
Really appreciate the review, and nice playing. Is it the lighting or does the guitar have some kind of warping on the body just above the neck pickup? Looks like it’s a substantial raise or bump.
It's just what the arched top of the guitar is shaped like. It's not warped or anything, it probably looks a little more pronounced in this video because of the lighting. Thanks for watching.
I'm not sure what you mean by "aged the frets." The frets are fine on this guitar, they came just like any other frets on a new guitar would; I've never had a problem with them!
Thanks for the review! One additional difference between the AKJV95 in this video and the AKJV90D is that the AKJV95 has an ebony fretboard, whereas the AKJV90D has a rosewood fretboard.
Great observation! Thanks for adding that.
Informative demo & very nice, chill playing.
Never usually stay for an entire review video but your playing is excellent, super listenable and I really enjoyed it.
Surprising how mellow it sounds even in the middle position great playing thanks for posting !!
Steve, this has been informative. AKJV95 has a great warm sound/tone. I shall now purchase this model.
I just bought this model guitar from MF yesterday. Should be in this week. Yours is the only review I could find on this model. Before your review I was nervous about my choice, now I feel I'll be happy with my guitar. Thanks for a great review.

Thanks for watching! I hope you like your guitar as much as I like this one
Do you use flatwound strings or "normal" ones?

Mi piacerebbe conoscere l'amplificatore usato per Misty. Grazie!
Tasteful playing!
Nice Lines Bro!!!!

Love your playing and the sound you get with this guitar. Been shopping around and I think you just sold me! Out of curiosity, which strings and pick were you using here?
Hey Phil, thanks for the comment. I'm using D'addario Chromes (flat wound strings) and I'm using a D'Andrea Pro Plec 1.5mm pick.
Thanks Steven. If you don't mind my asking, what guage?
I believe at this time I was using 11-49

Oh cool. That's just the amp I have.
Hi Steven, what are you playing in 4:00-4:39 mins? thank you
Hey Dmitry, I’m playing the jazz standard ‘Misty’ there
Thank you Steven, Appreciate
super nice but cant find it nor new nor second hand :/ how does that compare to a 5th av kingpin?
I couldn't tell ya, haven't played a Godin.

This is correct, the top is laminated.
Excellent demo Steve. The subject was well covered. Awesome playing and a joy to listen to. What was the source of the overdrive sounds. I have a Blues Jr and hope I can duplicate your sound.
Thanks, Walter. The overdrive sound is from a Visual Sounds Route 808 overdrive pedal.
Great review man, might have to pick me up one of these. Question, how do you eq your set up to get that sort of mellow, rounded tone?
Hey thank you for the comment. Did you end up getting one? I roll the tone knob back to 3-5, depending on the guitar; I've found that using a compressor contributes to the "roundedness" of the attack.
What are you playing through? Sounds gorgeous...

Hey! What's the name of the song you play at 4:44 right after "Misty" ?
St. Thomas
Really appreciate the review, and nice playing.

How are the frets? Some are saying since they added the guitar they kinda aged the frets and it sounds kinda bad
I'm not sure what you mean by "aged the frets." The frets are fine on this guitar, they came just like any other frets on a new guitar would; I've never had a problem with them!
StevenRichisonGuitar thanks for replying. Yea I thought that was weird too
OMG that sounds good ! So glad for the absence of REVERB ! Methinks I will get me one ...
