Years of photoshop learning out the door. I can’t believe how fast this matches my face to any angle, lighting, color grade, resolution, etc. I took one selfie and have swapped it into old photos, new DSLR photos, movie stills, etc. And this is the worst this tech will ever be. Unbelievable.

Oh, 100%. The thing that gives me a little hope from this getting too out of hand is the fact that at least MJ has filters. I know those have been an issue for some (I’ve run into things where I’ve gotten warnings for word use that I was not intending), so hopefully that will stop things from getting TOO out of hand.
Although it wouldn’t surprise me if something really stupid happens and hits all the news sites, forcing MJ to ban the app. Sigh. We can’t have nice things.

@@TheoreticallyMedia as I compose with my followers, it may happen that I don't find an image in the midjourney gallery that fits, mainly, according to the shape of the face. so in these cases I use MJ to generate an image that is closer to the person's characteristics, and then use IFS. But 99% of the time I find good pictures on MJ gallery itself.

What? How do you get the image in there? Do you open photos, a window and click on the image and just drop it in anywhere? Sorry but I have been trying to get an image useable in Midjourney for months. They get in there as a tiny image in an aborted “blend”!but I have never been able to figure out how to use them. I usually just x them out because they are inert. Literally the most frustrating thing ever. It seems impossible. I’ve literally tried everything and been all over the FAQ. Do you use an image url? If so, where is the URL? Other videos all skip over this. They say put an image in but neither show or explain how and I have been unable to do this for months of trying!!!!!

@@TheoreticallyMedia Well, FaceSwap didn't recognize my simple character face, but I tried two other comic faces and it did work. Which is good, since I thought my character's face was too simple anyway. Interestingly, one of the faces was a pen and ink b/w comic book image (Maggie from Love & Rockets, if you know that old indie series). But it's a subtle effect with comic faces. It only slightly tweaks the mouth and eyes, and not much else. I'll keep trying!

    • @TheoreticallyMedia

I think it could-- depending on the complexity of the shoot. As we know, MJ gets a little more bogged in character details with the more you prompt for location/props etc...this seems like it would be a great solution for creating a consistent character model at least. Say, a fashion shoot with one model, in different clothes and different locations.

    • @rockybuckley

@@TheoreticallyMedia Yes, that would be the idea. Ideally you'd be able to upload a batch of photos of yourself with different angles and expressions, and have a permanent model built that could be reused. Looks like Midjourney is quickly getting to where I was expecting, when we can make realistic images from our own faces and pictures rather than random AI generated people.

Timely update! I was in the middle of trying to get decent results from uploading pics to MD with + button, copy pasting link to the prompt with added description but its hit and miss. Besides novelty factor, this should assist in those who want to get more emotion out character designs.

That’s what I’m thinking as well! I didn’t get the chance to experiment with it, but I think if you add in multiple expressions and name them: like, Me Happy, Me Sad, Me Angry- you might get some cool results.
As long as you don’t go as extreme as mr weightlifter at the end!

While I have your attention... any idea how one organizes images from one Text channel to another, is their a way to move to reorganize channels? Thanks

So, according to documentation, you can have up to 10 faces/character names. A few people in the comments have suggested maybe taking your own face with different expressions to use for that ending weightlifter scenario-- might be an interesting idea!

It can be- but, I always keep in mind: we’ve been able to do this in Photoshop for more than 20 years. Granted you needed to learn the skills to do it, so that barrier has been reduced.
But as more of these images start to flood out, I think we’ll be better at spotting a fake. At this point, I’ve been doing this long enough where I can spot a Midjourney image with one eye closed!
The tech will get better, but our brains are pretty good at noticing those uncanny details.

Hello! Appreciate the video. I did have a question. I’ve been working on a series of novels for the past several years and now that AI is available, I’ve decided to use MidJourney for character illustrations for my RUclips channel. My challenge like you probably already know , is being consistent with the character generation. I have read about puppet prompting within mid journey however I’m still new to this technology and haven’t mastered them. My question is this, with the information you have provided, if I was to generate a character illustration of a specific character of my novel through Mid Journey, save it, take a picture of that Upscaled close up and then use that as the photo swap for any other prompt generations in the future for consistency character of the novel, do you think that would work Tim?

Thank you! Sorry, I'll try to get to your other comment a little later-- but on the quick: I think maybe you can stack both your original image and your Insight Face in photoshop, and then using the erase tool blend the two together to get rid of that "line" look-- At least that's what I was thinking when I saw it here and there!

Thanks Tim .. great video ... some other handy commands as this will default if you only have one face as a \saveid ... is \listid (shows all ids) ...\delid (allows you to del one id at a time) ...\delall (delete all ids) ...\swapid (swapids) ... \setid (to set your default if you have multiple ids) ... I've tried just uploading the face and found it to be a bit more accurate and the more you faceswap that one pic it gets better .. ran out of 50 credits on day 1 .. came back on day 3 and used the same face pic and was blown away .. like the model is being trained on that one face. Happy Swapping everyone .. lol.
