How to Give Injections to Aggressive Snakes

- Although friendly snakes won't care much if you give them an injection of medicine, others.... well, they'll show you how much they feel about it. Here are my techniques for giving shots to not-so-friendly snakes.

I'm not a huge snake lover although I think there beautiful animals but you really make the videos very interesting I love watching them. you were born to do this type of work

I know this is an older video but I just have to say that if you are going to be giving injections to your snake, it's best to follow instructions that your veterinarian has given you on how to give the injection properly. The difference between Emily's technique and what a veterinarian or vet tech would do is simply to aspirate before slowing injecting the medication. Aspirating, or pulling back on the plunger, will let you know if your needle is in the correct spot based on what is pulled back into the syringe.
I started watching this because I both love snakes, and have a fear of snakes... I want to own one as a pet, and I think watching these videos is helping me learn more so I can be less scared.

Bro…my snake is so chill. It just took a bit of working past her trying to get away and I injected her and she just slithered away after. She’s such a good girl.

Having to give my male ball 2 different injections every 2 & 3 days for a respritory infection. He isnt aggressive, but definitely doesnt enjoy them, especially the one the intramuscular one.

Good video, I had to inject my 12ft female burm a couple of times, and she use to bend the needle and it use to leave some horrible bruises. Sometimes you just can’t avoid it and you have to try your best.

Snakes are one of those animals that look cute when their mouths closed, and then they look freaky when they open their mouths.
I still love them, though. I hope I can get a corn snake someday.
Personally I think most snakes look super cute when they yawn though. Except for Emerald tree boas.... lol. They look terrifying when they yawn.

After giving the injection is it normal for there to be some slight swelling in the site? Almost like a little globe under the skin? I'm learning how to give my snake a shot and it's just a little scary still
You need to go a little deeper. Its getting stuck under the skin.

I have to give my ball python a shot every 2 days and just did his before watching this. Wish i would've watch this first cuz i could've fed him and did it lol. Hes pretty chill about it tho, not bitey at all, but i still feel bad and dont want him to hate me after its over with 😣. My vet said to inject in the last section of his body, so thats what i did.. i also didnt give it at a 45° angle cuz she didnt mention that.. so will he be fine?

My 20lb blood python needs shots. Any sugestions on what i can do beyond feeding her every 3 days? She is very fidgety and i have no one that could help hold her otherwise that wouldnt be a problem
I've given my 10ft retic shots by myself and it's not fun, but it had to be done. I just grab him behind the head as gently as i can and if he starts freaking out i let go. I dont even think about getting bitten. Id much rather get bitten than injure his neck. I let him wrap his body around my leg and sit on the floor with him. He threw a small fit most times. especially near the end because he was getting 1 medication daily and another every 3 days. He was clearly getting tired of them. It got to the point where he knew it was time for a shot when id open the door and he would gape his mouth and try to get away. Like he remembered it as a routine. Luckily he ussually just bluffs when he gapes. Hes only ever grazed my shoulder once with a tooth. No real actual bites from him in the 6 years ive owned him.
@@alexcrowder1673 yeah but a retic is not as strong as a 35 pound blood. I gave her the shots but still shes able to move 100 pounds no prob. And unfortunately shes still sick after 15 doses of fortaz. I fear giving her more antibiotics is going to make her immune. She eats well just drools when being handled

Dev Patel Yes, IM is intra muscular, you can’t just jam a syringe into an animal, especially a snake where you obviously dont have a large limb muscle, you need to know where muscle tissue is, not body cavity, or harm internal organs, damage nerve or circulation. Veterinary guides, or can speak to expert. The gauge of a syringe is obviously larger to a small animal when designed for human. Just concerned.

6 Gorillian Sea Monkeys most sank injections involve inter-musular, like for most antibiotics. That includes cellulitis injections for horses and mouthrot for snakes. But those are only two examples.

No, it's alright since wild snakes also get hurt with live rats and mice fighting and biting them. It wouldn't bother them too much. If they're hungry they'll still eat.
