I also watched your video on the carb rebuild, and I asked my wife how does he make it look so easy?? I started on Saturday, ruined the accelerator pump gasket with to much anaerobic gasket sealer and was generally cussing at the world. Luckily, I know my nature and bought two kits. Thank you for your videos, and from a professional mechanic, you have skills!

Was removing the heat exchanger really necessary? It wouldn’t squeeze out? Also - wanted to see you put the gaskets on but you skipped over that - how’d you do it?

Thanks for your video sir very helpful. I got Volvo Penta 230b it's 1993. Looks very similar to yours. Mine has a rough idle and no power on high RPM. I'm thinking the water is getting in through that intake gaskets which I'm going to inspect today.

How did you get the gaskets lined up for the heat exchanger? I’m currently doing this repair, but I can’t get the antifreeze gaskets to line up.

Hi, this thing is heavy. I remember having it siting on my thigh and with both hands struggling to put a couple bolts on first without the gasket to help holing it up. With the first few bolts on not too tight, leaving a gap for the gasket. I then placed on the gasket and more bolts for holding both the manifold and the gasket. Then I removed the first couple bolts and reinstalled them with the gasket in place. I repeated the step to get the remaining gaskets lined up. You basically, need both hands, one for holding the gasket and one for inserting the bolt through the manifold, the gasket, and the engine block, one hole at a time. Sorry, I try my best to explain. Hope that help!

Excellent. Can I ask the brand name of the replacement manifold? Is it made of zinc?

Hi, It came from another old same motor and I didn't pay attention to the brand name. I sold that boat awhile ago, otherwise, I could take another look for. Sorry! That manifold is very heavy. I think it is made of iron, but I could be wrong.

Hi again FNF it’s Brad again thank you for the flapper it works great, so I replaced the head gasket on my 86 Volvo aq131a everything works great but noticed a ticking noise at the back of the exhaust manifold and determine it’s a leak, the gaskets that came with the kit only had material on one side the other side was metal so I used some copper gasket sealer on the side where it was metal so now I have the new set with material on both sides and will install today did you use any type of gasket sealer and how did you get the gaskets to stay in place while you installed the manifold again fnf thank you for your unique videos they are very helpful Happy boating

Hi Brad, I am glad the flapper works for you! I did not use gasket sealer. I put the first two bolts in without gasket. I use them to help holding the manifold. I place the remaining gaskets, one gasket at a time by holding it in place with one hand and putting the bolts through with the other hand. I then remove the first two bolts and put in the remaining gasket. Hope that help!

You must be massively strong, I am changing the same part, and brother that manifold weighs about 80 lbs. How did you do it so easily? I am a mechanic, and by no means a small framed person

Thank you for watching and commenting! You are right that the manifold is very heavy. II was a bit afraid that I couldn't get it back on. I actually had it sitting on my thighs and with both hand to inch it in place. I tried at least three times. Once I get the first bolt on one end, it become a bit easier to handle.
