Malasadas are a Portugese donut brought early Portugese plantation workers and spread throughout the islands through the decades of community sharing and families of other island families marrying. It's been upgraded from the original malasadas with sugar to be filled with different fillings of cream, haupia, fruity fillings.
@@ParrotEater Nope, not the same. Bola de Berlim is a similar pastry but from Germany and other central European countries. Depending on the region, the Germans call them Berliner, Bismarck or Pfannkuchen; Austrians call them Krapfen (Faschingskrapfen). They're massively popular in both countries.
Lived on the big Island as a kid in late 70s. Loved the snacks. Taro chips, rock salt plump, li hing mui. Most of all I miss the fresh lychee off the tree of the chuch I went to.
Those fresh malasadas looked so plush! It was like the doughnut equivalent of a box of chocolates, not know what filling Mike would bite into! So yummy and fun🤗
As a Minnesotan who has obviously been to the museum of Spam I am also surprised. People in Minnesota don’t eat it really but in Hawaii and Eastern Asia keeps it in business 😂
The pickled vegetables are made for banh mi sandwiches! Ba-le has a restaurant in Kona that makes the absolute best, my favorite is spicy lemongrass chicken!
it's funny that people eat potato salad macaroni salad made together and I always take a bite of each... who would have thought to actually make them together yum! Lol thank u!
In Hawaii it kinda rains towards evening. Like 5 or 6 pm. It’s from the heat of the day and all the water it evaporates it just drops it around the mountains
ONLY Costco food??? It's a massive warehouse that carries basically everything. I could live off what any Costco is stocked with on any regular day for like the next 20+ years lol.
Portuguese immigration to Hawaii began in 1878 when laborers from Madeira and the Azores migrated there to work in the sugarcane plantations ...why a lot of Portuguese food
Oh You make everything tastes good and you make us want to go to those places to eat…actually I have been ther before..and you are right ..great pastries and Super AJ’s…”the Da Best!” Aloha
Yeah those pickled vegetable is for a Banh-mi sandwich, it's made by Bale. They use to be this Banh-mi sandwich chain. They started out on Oahu in Chinatown and other locations followed but over the years I guess they got over saturated and business slowed. They closed down pretty much most of the stores. I miss their sandwiches.
@@vablackbelt It might be because when they first started here with the one store, there was always a line out the door and around the block but then they franchised and the market here got so saturated that you can find a Bale just about anywhere. But most of them closed down and there are only 2 left. Even the original store closed down.
I saw that brand of mangosteens show up at our local Costco in California also, and ironically enough, I don't think they are from Hawaii, but from Mexico. Great video bro! I hope my dad let's me go with him to Costco tomorrow, because he usually tries to make that difficult, but I love going... Banh Pia w/ mung bean and durian paste 😋🧡
Yesssss you did the Big Island! Super J's is legit, I go there every time I visit. Near the Costco, you should try the poke bombs at Matsuyama Market and the spicy musubi's from the Texaco / Queen K gas station. Go over to Hilo early in the day and try everything from Kawamoto Store, and the manapua from Lee's Chop Suey. Oh and Teshima's in Kealakekua for Japanese breakfast!
Mike, i am sooooo glad that i sat down, first, with a yummy seafood dinner, or i would starve to death watching this with no food, lol. that costco has way more room at the “little cafe” then ours, here in chantilly, va, does. here in va, they put it right in front of the check out lines so everyone gets all bunched up, no one can move much or get out.
Closest thing to hawaii Costco’s are the ones in Las Vegas because of all the hawaii transplants. You can find a good amount of hawaii things in there but it still doesn’t compare!
Hi Mikey! Iove your channel. Could you please provide proof that you actually used Factor before the sponsorship deal? I think we would all appreciate the transparency. Keep up the awesome food content!!
Hi Mike I always watch your Chanel’s and try out. As well as when traveling try restaurants all over the world . I ordered Factors meals and was very disappointed with the quality flavors I basically through out most of it .
My home town! Im glad you made it to the big island. Kailua kona costco is da bomb. Also super j's in the town of honaunau has been a favorite go place. If they had pastele youd be in heaven! Its a puerto rican dish with a hawaiian twist to it.
I lived in the Kailua Kona in the Big Island for few years. Malasada taste awesome too. And as super markets go, that Costco is the best experience. It's very laid back. When I came back to the east coast, I realized just how fast the lifestyle it is compared to the Big Island.
My mom lives in Washington state and she had those boba mochi snacks that I saw at the Costco you were at. Of course me living in Wisconsin I haven’t seen them but I guess that’s good. Less calories and less temptation. 😂
Man, I live in Kona and haven't been to that donut spot. I'm gonna have to hit it up soon. Hopefully you got to try other spots. We got a bunch of hidden gems here.
How is it Mikey always finds the best tasting frozen foods every where he goes. When I tried buying frozen or already made foods in a bag/box, it never taste anywhere close to how it looks. Maybe its the stores we have here in the states, but foods bought in a bag/box normally doesnt taste that well.

In Portuguese its called Bola de Berlim. Its a common food to purchase from walking vendors at the beach
Mikey is a man not bothered by details.

Best way to eat “Poi” (cooked Taro mash into a souped paste adding water). Mix it with “Lomi-lomi salmon 50/50 , Aloha
Oh man that pork belly - so convenient!!! It all looked amazing! The tuna jerky looked amazeballs too!!

Yes, the freshly made malasada, Portuguese donuts ,are delicious .. they've been made in the Hawaiian islands for at least 140 years.
5:50 I swear he says “this is so fucking amazing”😂
I love Big Island. The drive from Kona to Hilo is an absolutely epic and relaxing drive.
Malasadas are actually from Portugal and they are absolutely amazing❤️☺️
Two of my favorite things in one video, Hawaii & Costco
You need to get out more
Those fresh malasadas looked so plush! It was like the doughnut equivalent of a box of chocolates, not know what filling Mike would bite into! So yummy and fun🤗
I hope you live as you are, until I die, dear Mike. I love watching you eat.
Not a huge sweets person, but that banana doughnut... OMG.
One of my favorites thanks Mike 😊
only the donut look good in this video
I'm surprised Spam wasn't somewhere in this video (seriously!) 😆 Hawaiians know how to dress it up and make it good.
As a Minnesotan who has obviously been to the museum of Spam I am also surprised. People in Minnesota don’t eat it really but in Hawaii and Eastern Asia keeps it in business 😂
Does he really need to eat spam? He’s looking unhealthy with the weight gains.
@@Shakodancer16when you are hungry and broke it does the job 😅
Lau lau isn't just pork. It has either squid or butterfish also in it

Mike’s always easily pleased😂

you should stop by Alaska. they have some amazing food and crazy to see
Potato & Macarori fuse together look insane !!! 🔥
There’s no way that restaurant is top 10 in America 😂
I bet it tasted good but there aint no way that place is beating any of my favorite places
They dont even got sauce lol
I don't think y'all realize how deeply I need that Kalua pork in my life rn. Holy heck.
In Hawaii it kinda rains towards evening. Like 5 or 6 pm. It’s from the heat of the day and all the water it evaporates it just drops it around the mountains
Mike: Tea or coffee with those lovely donuts?
Those style of doughnuts are popular herre in the UK too, most supermarkets sell them. Fairly affordable!
I love smoked fish, looks delicious.
ONLY Costco food??? It's a massive warehouse that carries basically everything. I could live off what any Costco is stocked with on any regular day for like the next 20+ years lol.
Yeah, it does seem odd to do one of these videos with a grocery store. Like how do most ppl eat in 24hrs?
Portuguese immigration to Hawaii began in 1878 when laborers from Madeira and the Azores migrated there to work in the sugarcane plantations ...why a lot of Portuguese food
Can someone explain how eating Costco for dinner equals 24 hours of eating ONLY Costco Food?
I guess it depends on whether or not you believe he kept eating Costco food for another day after this video was recorded.
Maybe he titled it that way so the RUclips algorithm would put it out on more people’s dashes or something
Lol yeah maybe if he ate 1 meal every 24 hours, anything will taste good.😂
pretty sure Mike has mentioned he does OMAD when he's filming
@@dundonoz Well this video contradicts that because he said after lunch he got Costco for dinner.
You missed the butter fish in the Laulau!
😳😳oh mannn!!!!
Looks amazing!😎👍🏻👍🏻
YES! Kona represent!
Great video
I love poke

we have a Bale here in Northern VA, not sure if its the same chain

Born and raised here on Big Island and never heard of or went to Paradise Bakery! Making it there on our next trip to Kona. Malasadas look 💣!
Man, bright light makes food look bad.
Food is being interrogated
Miiiikey you NEED to mix the lomi lomi salmon with the rice, THEN eat the kalua pig 😆 The rice helps to cut some of the saltiness of the salmon!!

"24 Hours Eating ONLY Costco Food in Hawaii!" Starts video with a 2:30 minute sponsor... Tries local places and than eats Costco for dinner... Bait.

This dude goes to Hawaii to eat at Costco and I'm here for it
Costco, 7-11, McDonalds all are unique in Hawaii
Shrimp cheeks were my fav thing from there
That's a lot of non-Costco food to be "Eating ONLY Costco Food"...
I came home from Hawaii in love with laulau
Would love to see you do Costco in china and Japan

Love the Hawaiian Malasadas! Much better than the Portuguese ones.
Malasadas/donut is Berliner bol.
Go visit the Lava Rock Cafe near Kilauea national park in Volcano, HI!
A good donut while breathing fresh morning air is what we need everyday
How to learn to like poi: eat some in the same bite as your kalua pig. Or dip some jerky in it. 👍🏻
My A1C just went through the roof. Not on my diabetic diet. Miss my donuts.
Always smart to order all the same donuts. If u get 12 different ones. Ur gonna eat all twelve of them. This way u can share.
