Excellent episode & excellent all-round performances, particularly future 'Magician/Incredible Hulk' star Bill Bixby. Remember James Olson starring in the UK sci-fi movie 'Moon Zero Two'.
Written by Michael Crichton and starring James Olson more or less concurrent with when he was making 1971's "The Andromeda Strain" (of course based on the Crichton novel!) It's absolutely how incredible how well done this series was, in writing, in casting and in performance.
Did anyone else find themselves wondering if Stephen King used to be a priest or has a twin brother? The priest doing the prelude narration is a dead ringer for the 'Master of the macabre".
This is a good story about image/perceptions and the performances rendered by Elizabeth Ashley and the late Bill Bixby, as good as they were, made this episode a damn powerful one.
Counseling? Especially after an admission like that? Besides, I believe it is standard procedure, and the law, for hospitals to call the police when a child arrives with injuries consistent with abuse. "Insight" is an awesome show and often very hardcore, but I believe they missed the ball on this one. Good performances though.
I thought the same thing -- that James Olson's doctor was letting the child batterers off easy with counseling. DEFINITELY the police should be notified. "Good performances though" -- CHECK. I like the little 'business' where Olson moved an ash tray over to the coffee table for Ashley's benefit and put out her still smoldering cigarette while she was (already) smoking a fresh one. "Hats off" and kudos to the assistant director for all the believable, life-like activity of the dress extras portraying the hospital personnel -- so clearly visible behind the heavy drama of the three performers due to the huge glass windows and well lit hall and office area. Thank you, "Insight" powered by Paulist Productions.

Powerful episode. Excellent writing and acting. We could use this series on air today.
A very well written story on child abuse.

Watch the episode titled 'Jesus BC'. It is my favorite.

Crichton probably suggested to John Meredyth Lucas and Fr. Kieser, "I want James Olson to be the doctor...."

@@manofgod3080 haha you're right, the good priest does look like King. I was also thinking Ken Howard, a.k.a. "The White Shadow."
Another GREAT episode of Insight with Bill Bixby, Elizabeth Ashley & James Olson. Thank You so very much for posting. I love it very much.

Steve Wilkos would have cursed and fussed this couple out in real life.
James Olsen would have stuffed Wilkos in a trash can
In 2024 these two would be under the jail
Can't watch this one😢😡
