God in the form of a janitor, breaking the fourth wall to narrate the episode, and seemingly unseen and unheard by the rest of the characters until it was time for Brian Conley to see him. Very effective narrative device and one of the more underrated episodes.
I always thought of the show as "The Catholic Church Does Twilight Zone" Glad I thought of searching for this on youtube. The idea of Puerto Rican janitor being God also appeared in the play Steam Bath which I saw on PBS back in the day. I don't know which came first.
I really like this episode. It has a powerful message and was very well acted. Gregory Sierra was a fine actor and one of the more popular character actors in the 70’s. He’s mostly known for playing Julio Fuentes on Sanford and Son,but played bit parts in many other shows like “All in the Family”. Robert Mandan starred in the “Threes Company” spin-off, “Threes a Crowd”. I just showed this episode to a dear friend today and she liked it too.
I remember catching the ending of one episode one Saturday morning where a guy throws himself onto a hand grenade which then explodes under him, and then everyone around him freaks out. One woman was saying the Hail Mary, I believe.
wow an all star cast , Lara Parker is just wonderful Gregory Sierra RIP
Thank you so much for posting this!! It is always a pleasure to see more of Gregory Sierra's work, may he rest in peace.

Me? I'm here because of Lara Parker. Everyone else? Ok. Good. But Lara Parker is just a wonder to behold.

Julio the Janitor? His goat is missing. Lol.
Robert Mandan and Donnelly Rhodes appeared together in Soap. Rhodes played escaped convict Dutch, who fell in love with Chester's daughter Eunice.
