4:45 As the court of the Western Emperor moved to Milan, I'd have to imagine that institutions like the mint went with it. We can blame Diocletian for Rome loosing its status as capital, though in his defence he would say that Rome had come to mean much more than any one city by his era. Some historians argue the crisis of the 3rd century had undermined Rome's pre-eminence.

I have a Solidus of Marcianus. Interesting, but not quite the same as an Aureus in terms of worksmanship. The Solidus though, was the US dollar of the middle ages for 600 hundred years. Gradually debased in purity until it was replaced by the Hyperpyron. History is repeating at the moment with the US$.

I recently found this channel, and I have to say I enjoy the topic. I already collect both gold and silver coins (bullions), but the Roman, Byzantine coins have both history & soul.

Greek “Nike” looked like a Angel

Many say that the image of Nike directly influences the future christian depiction of angels. I'd agree with that statement.

Perhaps inspired by the “Nike of Samothrace” with the wings the same statue kept in Louvre

The debasement of byzantine coins is very interesting, but it is hard to find video's about it.

Beautiful and fascinating gold coins. I would love to know more about how these coins were produced. Were they struck, if so, with what? Were they pressed? Were they cast? What is their purity? Is any of this known by anyone?

Perhaps you've made a video about this topic already (I didn't see one in a quick search of your channel. I've been a subscriber for a long time but only recently starting watching your videos again.)... but how did you learn classical numismatics?
Is it all self-taught, did you take formal classes, is it your profession? (outside of RUclips)
I'd love to know as much as you do some day, but I know that it would take real dedication and many years of study.
I haven't decided whether or not I want to make that commitment at this point in time. Thanks!

It was a mix of lots of googling around, buying books and studying, going to museums, basically being interested and looking for information whenever you can.
Im self-taught, and its a constant pursuit for new things.
In fact, this youtube channel has helped me a lot, it FORCES me to study about a certain theme as to pass proper information.
