    Just planted Zinnia seeds in a cardboard egg carton, indoor, warmed by my radiators. Took only 3 days to sprout. We are having unusually low temperatures for May here in the Mid-Atlantic, we still have a couple of below freezing nights coming up so hopefully they won't outgrow their little egg carton home before the frost passes! Great vid BTW!

      It was gross because kudzus are smelly.

    Your zinnia are beautiful! Mine were fabulous for awhile until the goldfinch birds attacked my flower garden by pulling off the petals, I thought to use bird netting to protect them but worried about butterflies as I mostly planted flowers for pollinators.

    • @vistaprime
      @vistaprime 3 года назад +2

      why discourage goldfinch. One of the reasons I plant zinnia are for goldfinch and for hummingbirds and thirdly for bees and butterflies. the beauty of the flowers are secondary.

    Thank you for pronouncing it right oh my God I cant tell you how many people call the zine-yuhs.
    Question though. If i just harvested seeds do they need stratification or will they grow instantly right off the flower. Miracle grow leds are nice for starting seeds if you want to try messing around inside and aren't too expensive. Thank you!

    Love them ! 💕💕 I have a question, I’m currently growing my zinnias in a pot they’re about a foot tall right now. Will they grow okay in a pot? I’ve mostly seen people plant them in the ground.

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers
      @TONYAwiththeflowers  4 года назад +1

      Certain dwarf varieties are specifically for pots and containers. Most zinnias will grow well in pots, but you may need to stake them if they are a type that gets really tall. Good luck!

    When direct seeding in rows how far apart should I seed? How far apart did you plant yours?

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers
      @TONYAwiththeflowers  4 года назад +2

      I plant intensively in a row that is roughly four feet wide, with six inches between each plant. 🌱🌱🌱

  • @jeffborkowski
    @jeffborkowski 3 года назад +1

    when you direct sow into the garden, since you're not covering the seeds, do you need to protect from birds somehow prior to germination? and once germinated, protect against rabbits somehow?

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers
      @TONYAwiththeflowers  3 года назад +1

      I usually don't have any problems with zinnia seeds. However, the birds and rabbits will absolutely destroy my sunflowers. At planting time, I use a low tunnel that is covered with light weight Agribon insect barrier. If it's secured very well, the birds and rabbits are not an issue. I take the cover off when the seedlings are well established. I hope that helps. Thanks for watching!

    I have some just a few Zinnias that the tops of the stems are curving. Is this common? Does it mean I need to steak them earlier. They are getting tall so I am staking them now but they have curled or gave curved earlier.

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers
      @TONYAwiththeflowers  5 лет назад +2

      I usually buy my zinnias from Johnny's seeds, just because I buy so many. Tons of places offer the benarys giant varieties though. The fertilizer was pelleted seabird guano. There might be an Amazon link in the description. Happy gardening!

    • @TONYAwiththeflowers

      Just regular trellis netting. Instead of using it vertically for vines, some people lay it flat to support flowers. For an example, I used it that way in my pruning tomatoes video. Hope that helps!
