    did some freehand timber 6x6 cutting with a chalkline and my 555 yesterday, surprisingly easy and accurate. Learning to build freestanding structures without fasteners...fun learning new notches and tricks of the trade! Leave yourself plenty of settling space above your doors and windows, log and timber structures shrink and settle more than one might think...had to help Dad make a log sauna for Mom...it was the one criteria she imposed before moving up north, lol. With the 36" bar it's definitely worth knocking the oiler restriction pin down. Small pin punch and the pin is next to the adjuster screw for the oiler underneath the saw. You'll find it doesn't quite oil enough, drive the pint down and it only needs a little more adjustment to oil better.

      Mine came with a 32” regular bar. I hated it. Bought a 25” Lightweight and it is sick! Almost purchased the 28” lightweight on a gut feeling. Bought a 500i today and for some reason it came with a 32” lightweight. I pulled it and switched to the 25” lightweight. Close to perfect. Maybe keep a 20” lightweight too for it. The 32” lightweight on the 661 is much better, but still front heavy. So again thinking 28” lightweight.

    Its my goto saw. For milling with a 36 inch bar just like yours and for felling I change to a 25 inch as it ballances better. Its as you know a little nose heavy with the 36 inch bar but I am on the lookout for a 36inch light weight bar like the oregon power match or similar. then I'll use the long bar all round. You will love that thing.

    When starting a brand new saw with new bar and chain good practice to pour a good amount of bar oil over that chain and bar, lube it up good.... that's just steel on steel for many revolutions until the oil finally gets through and oils bar and chain properly. Same when changing a chain or cleaning bar rail out etc. Nice saw I have the 660 great saws. Have fun and be careful with it.

    • @no.step.on.snek.2423
      @no.step.on.snek.2423 3 года назад

      No its not dude.. thats totally unnecessary and just a good way to oil all over you, the new saw and everything within slinging distance. The oiiler is sufficient to the chain and bar , thats what its designed to do.. now its bot a great idea to slap a new bar and chain on fire up the saw, and stick it immediately in some wood. But she did just as she should.. put it on and run it free for a little bit.. that oils everything just fine.. always somebody that got something to say ... I guarantee you she knows more about saws and trees than you.. and its immediately evident because shes not dumping bar oil all over the place to " lube it up good".

    • @bush600r2
      @bush600r2 3 года назад +1

      @@no.step.on.snek.2423 I think I worded it wrong and you have taken it in complete wrong context. What I should have said is put a little oil over bar and chain not drench it as you have taken it. It never flings off all over the show lol, You don't sound very well educated in saw maintenance so I'll give you a pass. It's good practice as many loggers have passed on. Don't assume I don't know anything either I have 11 saws and keep them all in good condition. It's just a tip so I don't care about what you think, Can take it or leave it. Good bars are expensive and worth looking after.

    One tip while starting cold Stihl saws in my experience, is to put full choke on and pull until it “pops”, then half choke - should fire on first pull every time. Will make starting them a lot easier, especially that big saw.

      @@shauncatlett6066 my saw is stock, if you want to run say a 32 or 36" stihl bar 0.404 they are a 3002 part number instead of a 3003 part number, the difference between the two is the 3002 is a 14.2mm spacing and the 3003 is a 12.2mm spacing, the reason you have to drill them out is the holes on the 3002 bar are further foward and you wont be able to tension the chain, as for other makes of bar i dont no if it is necessary, my 661 handles the 32 and 36" 0.404 bars no problem at all but as i mention i had to modify the bar a little by drilling extra holes

    Awesome machine. My best saw is a 462 for chainsaw carving. Maybe I want this one too. 😍

      @@Femalelumberjack hahaha, for detail work it's too heavy indeed. I use it for the rough parts. ruclips.net/video/hnni2dRfZBU/видео.html

    Omg... you got the “big dog”. I love it but have no use for that one. I guess I’ll be content with my ms462M. Have a great Christmas. Congratulations on your graduation, well done.

    If using it for milling, will you be using it to mill 36" wide planks? If using an undersized bar on that 661, one that matchest the width of the lumber you're milling, you get more power and it's easier on the saw.

    • @Femalelumberjack
      @Femalelumberjack  3 года назад

      I'll just get a smaller bar when needed :)

      @@Femalelumberjack Have you entertained the thought of a 9t or higher, custom sprocket? I'm an arborist in Alaska, and a fellow treeworker took a 660(he added another 6 to the number plate dubbing it the "666") with a 10t custom rim sprocket, and a 20" bar, and that thing ripped! Just be sure to crank your bar oiler up all the way. It gives you less torque, but a much faster chain speed, which would be great for a chainsaw mill methinks.

    I have Stihls and also Husqvarna, but especially Husqvarna off road bikes. I miss my 79 WR 390 it was like riding a huge chainsaw thru the woods.

    So what are your experiences with it so far Femalelumberjack ? It should have lots of power. Does it offer enough oil to the long bar?

    Good saw for cutting big stuff like our hard maple/oak. We’re doing a 1million board ft job now..
