2nd comment to say fun fact about diving, when you go deeper you can get to pressures as if you had a whole 2nd (or more) atmospheres on top of you, so you start inhaling more air. Air in dive tanks isn't pure Oxygen or you'd basically go unconscious, the air in tanks is literally just compressed breathing air, containing other molecules including Nitrogen, or N02. Despite being under several atmospheres of pressure and inhaling double the amount of gas as you would at sea level, your biochemistry still processes the gas the same way as if you were at sea level, so you can start to feel a buzz from the inert gasses in the air mix. It was originally thought it was due to the NO2 (Nitrogen) and so was initially called Nitrogen Narcosis, now it's usually referred to as gas narcosis since any and all gasses can build up in the blood stream over prolonged exposure, but it's entirely reversible. Colloquially it goes by a number of names, Cousteau called it the Rapture of the Deep, likely because it can cause feelings of intense euphoria on top of the almost alcohol like buzz, but I first heard it referred to as "chasing the mermaid" which I found quite funny as it references a few other buzz seeking behaviors within recreational drug use communities.
Pressure doubles every 10 metres (or around 30 feet for those who don’t use metric), so at 10 metres you have 2 atmospheres of pressure, at 20 m you have 3 atm of pressure etc. You are correct in that as pressure increases, you use more air. The air is compressed by the pressure so we inhale more molecules in each breath. Pure oxygen is toxic below 6 metres, so gas mixes are employed to prevent this, but if you are doing accelerated decompression you can use richer gas mixes on your ascent and finish with 100% O2 at the appropriate depth to avoid long waits at deco stops. Nitrogen isn’t NO2 - that’s the formula for nitrogen dioxide. Helium definitely does not have a narcotic effect at depth - look at Heliox and trimix diving. However, many divers will use Nitrox (a gas mix with more than the standard 21% Oxygen in breathable air, so less nitrogen) to again, limit decompression requirements. But this does limit your maximum operating depth due to the increased O2.
Hi! Patent Medicines are a HUGE fascination of mine. Yes, opiates were a very common drug used to treat literally any kind of illness. Opium, heroin, cocaine were commonly found in cure all remedies known as patent medicines. They also contained very LARGE amounts of alcohol. They were an enormous problem and led to infant mortality and substance abuse problems but they were incredibly popular to treat painful medical conditions. We didn't have antibiotics or vaccines and chronic illness was rampant. Coca Cola actually began life as a patent medicine before it became a soft drink! People eventually caught on to how harmful they were though. After the U.S. passed the Drug and Food Act of 1906, the manufacturing and sales of patent medicines became prohibited. Although, a doctor would have to probably give you a receipt or prescription for some things like heroin and cocaine (and sometimes alcohol to drink) depending on the country you lived in.
Hello Gab! Greek gal here. The title in greek is "θάλασσα" or thàlassa in greeklish and the accent goes on the first a, and basically it means the sea in greek. Can't wait to watch the video!
@YangX.L. greeklish cause I'm using latin characters to write a greek word. It's not a language, it's literally a term we use when we use latin characters instead of the greek alphabet.
As a diver, I don't think you could pay me enough to dive with the equipment they had, maybe some quick and shallow dive to try it out, but certainly not what they're doing
So far everyone I've seen playing this have spoken about how scary they find the open water and diving, especially in those old suits, but as a diver myself even through the lens of grief and loss and loneliness the open water and the dives feel like a comfort blanket. My dream was to be on a research vessel diving constantly, and if I could have tried in one of those old suits I'd have jumped at the chance despite the dangers because I want to know what it was like in the old bells for all those that made it what it is today. Regarding bringing things back to the surface, since they are only a 2 person operation (which wouldn't really happen but we can forgive the game for some mild inaccuracies for story telling) they would be prioritizing getting the information first about what happened. The wreck is precariously placed on the edge of a crevasse and so they may have limited time on getting the information they are after and Cam might have to make a fast escape if things turn extra dangerous. What would likely be happening since they have comms to Bailey on the ship, Cam is going over items found where, Bailey is marking them on a map to be retrieved either at the end of the dive when Cam is leaving if all is safe/for a later expedition or dive depending on a number of factors. Getting intel and mapping out what the wreck looks like for later retrieval and making the place as safe and easy to navigate for later dives/getting answers of what happened would take priority. Obviously there would likely be actual bodies floating around as well if this were real life and so I imagine corpse retrieval would be highest priority over items if they were trained and intending on doing so, but if it is just an information dive maybe in an attempt to establish WHY future dives would need funding, Cam would probably have a small bag attached to their weight/tool belt for small personal items, but if things that were paper based like photos and letters were under for weeks to months retrieval could risk damaging them on ascent without proper gear for preservation.
i get the feeling (and there's some dialogue to support it) that cam feels the exact same way; despite the grief and shock, the ocean otherwise looks beautiful through their eyes, their moments of exploring outside the ship seem peaceful and tranquil. it's almost like cam maybe expected to not know how to handle their first dive after the accident, but their love of the ocean made being in it again a comfort instead.
"And that girl makes chaos. Mark my words" -- Kadri "From our point of view, she's been fine" -- Gab, after said girl caused chaos with the wax cylinders
I love the concept of our character being kind of like a detective piecing things together and learning about what happened. There is grief and sadness and heavy moments but that adds to the atmosphere and ambient nature of it all. I love the underwater aspect and always will as a personal love. Our main character seems to be grieving still and they are seeing things. I am sure it is heartbreaking that they have to go and investigate what happened to their friends when you take time for a burial of your significant other. Then you are called in to investigate the disappearance of a ship because you are one of the only ones who knows the ins and outs. Still, I am waiting for a Cthulu connection or some mystical something to happen. I am sure Cthulu would get his influence on our main character with them being emotional and the underwater aspect.
Finally got the baby down, and I’m sitting cozy wrapped in a blanket, nerve meds taken, and sipping some Chamomile tea. ❤ I’m so ready for some relaxation with Gab.
Dont think this is true for the majority of people. Literally never heard of screw. Only ever heard of someone getting stuck in a ship propeller not ship 'screw'
@SpaceClown404 propeller is the colloquial term for both, screw is actually the type of propeller a ship uses and what it's called by those that work with them often since its blades make a screw shape, and planes use more variety of propeller so for them so those that work with either just use the generalized propeller
2:33:23 the pair of shoes on the floor (with no other apparently interactable purpose for the player) are probably supposed to represent where someone died. Bodies decompose very quickly, but shoes remain in place long after the bodies are gone - the Titanic for example has apparently got pairs of shoes lying around where people passed away. Very sad but also a very cool Easter egg!
Love the artwork and voice acting in this game, it was lovely to catch the livestream for it. Great sponsorship, Gab! I hope we'll see a full playtrough. (Gab has hinted that we will so 🤞.)
The style of this game is so nice, I love the artwork next to the dialogue. And just the artwork in general is so pleasing. It reminds me so much of these point and click HOG flash player games! There used to be one that was sea themed and you were a diver and you had to find all the objects on your dive. But now flash player Doenst exist so I couldn’t even tell you the name of it but this reminds me of that and honestly I love it.
I love your videos because you narrate what you’re doing and you read notes and papers out loud. I work where I’m allowed earbuds but I can’t always look at the screen. Your videos are perfect!
I know of cases where ppl, who knew their time was soon to be up, chose to 'disappear' rather than put their loved one through it all, thats how hard it is, and then the guilt they would feel because of responsibility even when there isnt a strong base for it etc. And thank you, I havent cried in quite some time...
Pretty sure the suits were not as “skin tight” either. They definitely wouldn’t be casually walking around in those suits and just had a Helmet strapped on lol
Ooh, I thought I recognised Alex's VA. She plays Malady in DOS2 and the narrator in BG3. She has awesome outtake videos for BG3, which everyone should watch lol
For the record modern divers still use weights. You need them to counteract your buoyancy. My uncle was into SCUBA and the way his weights worked was they went into pouches that essentially had flap openings on the bottom. When he was ready to rise he would open the flap on the bottom and the weight would sink and be discarded so he could rise.
There were some experimental suit designs that could maintain their internal air supply without a hose by then, thanks to the invention of the rebreather. But that sort of device only lets you scrub a self-contained suit's air of built-up CO2 for a matter of minutes. Carrying supplemental oxygen in tanks was possible also, but it wasn't yet feasible to *pressurize* such gas canisters to extend a diver's time by more than, again, a matter of minutes. So hoseless suits were pretty much limited to emergency escape purposes or *very* brief visual surveys.
Oh, I can’t wait for you to continue this game. I really love it and we left off on such a good note with piecing together a bunch of clues. I’ll be looking forward to the update notification!

This is such an honest view of grief i lost my first cat who was with me only for 13 years and he passed in my arms. Every corner I turn I see him and I only lost him in 2023. I give him a wish of a good sleep every night and hear him I grieve for my baby everyday.
I dislike they they portray Thomas as being unfit for his position because he has model figures of a submarine... I feel like having those figures just shows how devoted and interested to his job he is. He loves engineering and mechanical constructions. Were it modern day he'd probably be diagnosed autistic, with a special interest in engines and boats.
@1:13:01 I like games that make you curious. The rabbit hole I just went down looking up how long bodies last in the ocean: it's all variable Water temp, time of year, depth, oxygen levels, and abundance of sea life, not to mention entrapped verses able to float away. Daily dose of useless info, no one asked for, but now you know, haha!
This kinda thing is why Lake Superior is said to "Never give up her dead". It's so deep and so cold that bacteria don't grow as well, so the bodies never start to decompose. They're basically on the brink of frozen, stuck at the bottom of the lake, never resurfacing. There are literally hundreds if not thousands of bodies at the bottom of Lake Superior.
@@Palitato There ''were'' countless intact bodies down there. Probably not so intact anymore. Sea lampreys invaded Superior in the 1930s. Those things can tolerate water that cold in a pinch, and are happy to scavenge if live fishes to parasitize aren't available. Yet another reason to loathe invasive species, and not to go swimming in the Great Lakes.
Looking forward to Part [ 2 ] of this Mystery myself. Can't wait to see what else you discover on that ship Gab. This is a very intriguing mystery so far... O.O
song being sung by a crew member near the beginning. made me thing of The Longest Johns, used to listen to their music videos a lot but haven't in a while, Santiana was one they sung
It's an old Sea Shanty, there's actually quite a few good playlists out there on RUclips of them. If you enjoyed The Longest Johns singing Santiana I highly suggest finding other Sea Shanties. "Leave Her Johnny", "Drunken Sailor", and "Wellerman" are also a few good Shanties. You might enjoy them as well.
Love the art style in this! This is some deep stuff (no pun intended) but a super interesting narrative and storytelling idea. Can’t wait for you to finish it 😊
There needs to be a game with a silent protagonist where all the other characters act like you said something awful or confusing whenever you non-speak to them.
This game is so cool! I love the art style, the voice acting, and the mini puzzles that slowly unravel the larger mystery! I have thalassaphobia (fear of oceans and deep water) so I thought I'd be freaked out watching this, but since it's "indoors" with unlimited oxygen, it hasn't really bothered me. I can't wait to watch Part 2 next!
In the first minute of the video and gab is already gushing about how cute everything is (you’re not wrong though.) Also the inner twelve year old boy jumped out when Alex was saying “you’re my diving partner for a reason.” My mind went to “are we only diving partners though?”
Hey Gab! While I don't comment often, I do usually leave you a comment, if your playing a game I really enjoy. With that said, I am really enjoying this playthrough, this game is really awesome. From the bottom of my heart, I am hoping you continue to keep playing this game. Thank you Gab!
This game would have benefited greatly if your character was voiced, or at the very least given text as replies to dialogue instead of complete silence.
I guess that's the upside of being born with a heart condition. Most people assume they'll reach 80 and they have plenty of time. I don't even assume I'll reach retirement. It's really easy to take time for granted when you feel like you have all of it in the world.
Ooo. This looks awesome... gonna add it to my wishlist. Love it when I find cool indie games because I see random videos by youtubers popping up on my front page.
Im late to the party here. At first, this game didnt look like my kind of "lets play" so i skipped it. But its very late (1am American CST) and i cant shut my mind off enough for sleep. Evelyn's voice always is so soothing, so i gave this one a chance. Im glad i did, although i should have known that if i could watch any playthrough of this game, it would be Gabs. Sorry i waited so long to watch this one Gab. Although, maybe the universe was just saving it for me for a night where my anxiety was too high to sleep. Bedtime tea and blankie in hand, im tucked in and can already feel myself calming down. Only Gab could keep us all calm despite being deep down in the dark deep down in an ancient dive suit 😂❤
this looks so so good! why does thalassa always get used in contexts of grief tho lol, one of my favourite songs, ah THALASSA by Marina Satti is also about grief. there must be something in the water
I think Gab would really like From Below by Darcy Coates. I know she was recently reading one of the author's haunted house books but From Below is about a deep dive team exploring a wreckage to see why it sank and it had me on the edge of my seat.
For the pronunciation of Thalassa - if you want to pronounce it the Greek way, it would be THA-lassa, so emphasis on the first syllable. Thalassa (/θəˈlæsə/; Greek: Θάλασσα, translit. Thálassa, lit. "sea"; Attic Greek: Θάλαττα, Thálatta) was the general word for 'sea' and for its divine female personification in Greek mythology.
Pretty sure that diploma on the wall says University of North Carolina at Wilmington, which is funny because that school wasn't established as a UNC school until 1947 i think
My god I watch Alex talk and the only thing I hear is "I'm dead. I'm so fucking dead. I'll die horribly in the next 20 minutes, and there's nothing you can do about it"
There’s the story of the cat nicknamed “The Unsinkable Sam” and he was a ship cat that survived not one, but three, ship sinkings. I like to think that the kitty is like Sam and survived :)
There's also stories of cats leaving the ships before the voyage where it sank, like Jenny who left the Titanic with her kittens before its last trip
Not to sound weird but, is that a hint towards The Unsinkable Molly Brown from Titanic?
Hmm. That cat sounds suspicious. 🤔
@@ChaoticDragon5nope.

High oxygen percentage does not just make you unconscious, it makes your muscles contract uncontrollably and is called oxygen toxicity
Gab is so relatable for getting flustered by the pretty diver lady.
Doesn't she look like a blue-eyed, in game version of Gab? I kept thinking that the whole time
The moment I heard "you're my dive partner, I trust you", my thoughts are "yup. She's dead." Now to see if I was right or not!

Were it modern day he'd probably be diagnosed autistic, with a special interest in engines and boats.
not to mention how quickly he graduated and was already designing engineering feats impressive for his age and lack of experience in years
@1:13:01 I like games that make you curious. The rabbit hole I just went down looking up how long bodies last in the ocean:
it's all variable Water temp, time of year, depth, oxygen levels, and abundance of sea life, not to mention entrapped verses able to float away.
@@PalitatoAnd to think I drank out of Lake Superior once…It looked so clean and I was really thirsty. 😭
The facial expressions are great! Don't have to be photo realistic to be touching and deep. Well done art design. Oh and the synchro too :)
Looking forward to Part [ 2 ] of this Mystery myself. Can't wait to see what else you discover on that ship Gab. This is a very intriguing mystery so far... O.O
the voice in your characters ear is giving "would you kindly" bioshock vibes
*[Spoiler]*
Alex: "We'll talk later."
Me: Whelp. She's gonna die.
song being sung by a crew member near the beginning. made me thing of The Longest Johns, used to listen to their music videos a lot but haven't in a while, Santiana was one they sung
I like them, did you take part in any of their community projects?
@@guerney2000 no i've only watched their vids on youtube
Yeah that’s where I heard it too! Every time I’m on a ship I sing one of their songs and that’s a fav 😂
@@captaincanada8510 yea i've listened to TLJ sing many of them. and i think a few others sing some but mostly them
Love the art style in this! This is some deep stuff (no pun intended) but a super interesting narrative and storytelling idea.
Can’t wait for you to finish it 😊
Little bunk wedged under the stairs. Yep. They call that the Harry Potter bunk.
The old diving suits that they are using had air from an air pump or otherwise pumped into the suit by a long tube.
Also, they'd need insulated communication lines to talk to each other or the surface.
What amazing facial animations, actually all the animations are very well made😊
There needs to be a game with a silent protagonist where all the other characters act like you said something awful or confusing whenever you non-speak to them.
I’ve been getting sick a lot recently and this is just what I needed to cozy up with and rest!
Love the mystery on this ship! Thank you for playing!
How is this possible, I just searched your name and got your upload notification at the same time. I’m buying a lottery ticket lol
“So should we dive in” 😭😭😭
In the first minute of the video and gab is already gushing about how cute everything is (you’re not wrong though.)
Also the inner twelve year old boy jumped out when Alex was saying “you’re my diving partner for a reason.”
My mind went to “are we only diving partners though?”
Hey Gab! While I don't comment often, I do usually leave you a comment, if your playing a game I really enjoy. With that said, I am really enjoying this playthrough, this game is really awesome. From the bottom of my heart, I am hoping you continue to keep playing this game. Thank you Gab!
So glad you got to play this one! The minute I saw the trailer for it I was like ooooh this is perfect for Gab!
This game would have benefited greatly if your character was voiced, or at the very least given text as replies to dialogue instead of complete silence.
Really agree. It would have given the story more depth I think.
I guess that's the upside of being born with a heart condition. Most people assume they'll reach 80 and they have plenty of time. I don't even assume I'll reach retirement. It's really easy to take time for granted when you feel like you have all of it in the world.
This game is a lot more charming then I was expecting, I hope she plays more 😢
2:26:20 If you wonder what language the text was written in, it's norwegian.
As soon as I saw the trailer for this game I was like "gab is gonna love this game"
You got me hooked, can't wait for the next part.
I was wondering the same thing. I don’t think they had oxygen tanks back then. Love the game and the art work was amazing 🥰🥰🥰
Just FYI: If you are fast and get them to the surface and start CPR there is still hope. Not really dead until warm and dead. As the saying goes.
Initially first thoughts: This reminds me of Subnautica and The Sinking City with how you can piece clues and make assumptions
This is so cool, I look forward to more!
Ooo. This looks awesome... gonna add it to my wishlist. Love it when I find cool indie games because I see random videos by youtubers popping up on my front page.
It reminds me of pacific Drive but only on a ship,Keep up awesome and amazing job Gab 👍
I love that Cam is gender-neutral.
Yes! I saw an add for this and I knew I wanted you to play it!
people still use weights to dive🤣 but yeah i think the exact same think when i see those old school diving suits
YES! I've been looking forward to this game!! You rule Gab🎉❤
i can’t wait for the rest for this!😅
i love this kind of series!!
Really enjoying this game! Can't wait for the next video!
"You can pet the cat!" 10/10 game of the year 😌
this game reminds me so much of return of the obra dinn -- another amazing ship mystery game! feels like the devs really paid homage to that game
I saw this and was like I will wait for gabs playthrough!
Gab never fails to bring me to a neutral state when I feel like getting mad at a minor inconvenience
Sad I missed the stream but this looks fantastic!!!
this looks so so good! why does thalassa always get used in contexts of grief tho lol, one of my favourite songs, ah THALASSA by Marina Satti is also about grief. there must be something in the water
11:28 hey I know that sea shanty haha!
0:38 Don't get in above your head!
The air coming into those hats keeps water out, they can't flood like that unless the visor breaks.
I love the idea that the main pov is called "Cam" 'cause they're the pov camera lol
on my knees begging for Gab to play Macabre Mysteries: Curse of the Nightingale 🙏 🙏 🙏 imo the best hidden object game ever
I can’t wait for more of this!!!!
More mooooore!! 😍
Pretty sure that diploma on the wall says University of North Carolina at Wilmington, which is funny because that school wasn't established as a UNC school until 1947 i think
My god I watch Alex talk and the only thing I hear is "I'm dead. I'm so fucking dead. I'll die horribly in the next 20 minutes, and there's nothing you can do about it"
This is such an interesting game. I really didn’t want the video to end, it was so engrossing. 😅
The mystery tree screen reminds me of the mind map in The Sinking City
