    I got the greed ending and I can't even complain. I played this amazing game like I play any Bethesda game. LOOT FIRST and story second. After making close to a million roubles through my playthrough almost completely by selling things I felt the ending fit "my" Marked One very well lol

    This was super helpful since I put the game down for almost a year just before meeting the Guide and had mostly forgotten the major story beats. Exactly what I was looking for!

    Thanks dude just completed shadow of chernobyl and now moving to call of pripyat but wanted to have a better understanding of the story before moving on and you helped me with that.
    Also why does strelok's pda says to kil himself. Is it because of the mission? And was strelok being brainwashed as they knew he found a way inside the zone? Also do monoliths work under the goverment then?

      1 - STRELOK PDA :
      This is most likely an error, and the C-Con doesn't even know. The Strelok Program must be run through computers and automated process and after the Second Game, they tasked Strelok to kill himself.
      2 - WAS STRELOK BRAINWASHED BECAUSE HE KNEW HOW TO GET TO THE CENTER OF THE ZONE :
      Short answer - Play S.T.A.L.K.E.R Clear Sky.
      Long Answer : P L E A S E P L A Y C L E A R S K Y
      3 - MONOLITH AND CONTEXT :
      Monolith doesn't work under government control, at least, not that we know of in the official canon. Many points are shady though.
      How can they run the Brain Scorcher, Pripyat and the ChNPP and all of the secret installations of the C-Con without external help and furniture? I don't have a clue and nobody does.
      "The Group", the scientists that created C-Con, were most likely secret workers under soviet command, but the Chernobyl Catastrophe was so bad that it basically put the Soviet Union on their knees, Mikhail Gorbatchev said it himself and he was the Secretary General at the time, even going as far as blaming the incident for the fall.
      After the fall of the Soviet Union, "The Group" must have been cut off from the outside world, or kept secret relations, but most likely, they operated in secret without external help as X-18, X-16, and other labs are completely worn out, looted and also full of dangers that most stalkers wouldn't avoid, corroborating the fact that they couldn't operate and maintain all of their installations throughout the Zone with no funds and the presence of civilians and militaries (Reactor 1 to 3 still run to that day in the ChNPP)
      In March and then April of 2006, the Group made their C-Con experiment. First, in March, was a fail, second, in April, was a success, but spiraled out of control.
      After a bright light illuminates the Zone, and makes the skies evaporate, a loud crash and a wave of energy comes destroying everything.
      This is the birth of the Zone as we know it in STALKER - many people die, Military send dudes, that are mercilessly killed by the newly created anomalous environment and mutants.
      Survivors found Duty, the first faction of the Zone.
      First stalkers are sighted in 2010, and they aren't more of 500 by 2011, but one small group, who were absolutely fascinated with the Zone became strange.
      At first, their fascination was friendly and open, born of curiosity, but then, it mutated in reckless fanatism - they eventually crossed the Barrier with no explaination.
      Weeks after, a new group emerged, and they called themselves Monolith, mechanical, cold, and brutal, they started protecting the Center of the Zone, sealing once and for all the access to this fabled paradise, which was really an enormous theater of war and death.

    For people asking about the series and lore, read this comment, i'll try to be concise as possible, and don't hesitate to ask.
    *1 - The Series*
    S.T.A.L.K.E.R got three main games - Shadow of Chernobyl, Clear Sky, Call of Pripyat.
    I clarify that as i've seen many people and comments saying they're going to play Call of Pripyat right after Clear Sky, and you'd miss on massive bits of lore and a good game. Do Clear Sky. You can even be a bandit in it !
    *2 - The Lore, spoilers alert, you've been warned*
    *STRELOK* - Strelok is a legendary stalker inside the Zone, for the rumor is true and he managed to reach the center not once, but thrice.
    The first time, he managed to bypass the Brain Scorcher using secret tunnels in forgotten locations, as he was guided by "Guide", another legendary stalker (and admittedly, the first) that knew the Zone and its ways. Strelok was accompanied by Fangs and Ghost, two friends of him, one being a tech expert and the other an enforcer, Strelok being the leader.
    Their first trip revealed a door, the one of the C-Con lab, but couldn't access it because of electronic locks.
    The Second Trip ended badly, as a faction, Clear Sky, tracked down Strelok by using Scar, a mercenary, and managed to stop him at the entrance of the ChNPP using the Gauss Rifle.
    An Emission occured, destroying the Clear Sky faction, and Strelok who had a broken protection, was memory wiped by Monolith and brainwashed then to enter the mysterious S.T.A.L.K.E.R program.
    The Third Trip is the one of Shadow of Chernobyl, and this time, with the help of Doc and Guide to put you on the right tracks, you manage to find a decoder put together by Fangs, your old friend, and reach the Power Plant by yourself. Resisting the urge of the Monolith and destroying his wardens, you make your way to the Control Room of the C-Con. There, they explain - The C-Con was a secret project that certainly lost contact with the rest of the world on the eve of the fall of Soviet Union, but they kept on their work, and one day, "The Group" as they were called unified their last scientists in the Zone to create the C-Con, an artificial consciousness with the power of manipulating the Noosphere. Except the experiment went wrong and they put a hole in that "Noosphere", creating the Zone.
    As for Strelok, after surviving this trip, he made his way through the Zone again, and eventually met Alexander Degtyarev, a secret service of Ukraine soldier and military stalker tasked with uncovering the truth behind the crash of several helicopters during Operation Monolith, which we see in ShoC ending where the Military attack the Power Plant after the disappearance of Psi-Fields like the Brain Scorcher. Strelok shares his knowledge of the Zone, explaining that each emission resets the position of every anomaly in the Zone, explaining why ground anomalies are visible but airborne ones are not, and without proper mapping, you just can't enter the Zone.
    Strelok, at the end, agrees to share his knowledge also of the C-Con to the Military Service of Ukraine, leaving the Zone inside an helicopter.
    *THE MONOLITH* - Monolith are a faction of stalker that were present already back in 2011 before the three games. At first a small group, they were fascinated by the Zone, but weirdly, this fascination became obsession, and obsession became fanaticism, and their behavior switched from open and friendly to openly agressive. After some time though, they went through the Barrier and disappeared. Why? How? Nobody knows how or why, but couple of weeks later, a new Faction emerged, calling themselves "Monolith", and came down on stalkers like a hammer on an anvil.
    Monolith is very, very shady, not only they are the most numerous faction in the Zone, but also the one with the most strongholds, weaponry and assets to use. Officially, we do not know at all how they manage to have such power. On top of that, Monolith Soldiers are not only very efficient but impervious to most damages, as Monolith Soldiers are brainwashed zombies following a voice in their head, they are like machines and don't stop until they aren't able to move an inch, so fear and pain are out of the way for most of them.
    I can answer to a question though - How they have so much people inside their ranks. Easy. Brain Scorcher.
    The principle of Psi-Antennas and Psi-Fields (c.f : Brain Scorcher, Miracle Machine/X-16) is double - impairing any stalker who dares walking on the territory of C-Con, but also, people who do not have their brain completely fried by those Psi-Emissions are then brainwashed and transformed into new recruits for the Monolith. Those who do not have such chance - if we can say that - become mindless Zombies, at first able to mutter some words, and use basic objects, like guns who are easily operable, but with time those poor souls just become empty husks, unable to eat, sleep, drink, and eventually dies, as a walking corpse, but rumor wants that some of those "dead' aren't really that "dead"...
    Hope that cleared some of your questions!

      I know this is old but why exactly does Strelok want to destroy the C Consciousness? Aren't they doing the right thing by keeping people from the center of the zone, even tho it's their fault all this happened?

    • @kairosprods
      @kairosprods 20 дней назад +1

      @@crashingspectacular Well, from Strelok perspective, he sees people with far too much power for the good of humanity. Having the ability to manipulate people at their will, first, is pretty fucking bad, this IS the present problem at hand, but he also witnessed their past in the X-Labs (genetic testing and psi-waves tests on live subjects, not even mentioning the Brain Scorcher), so with those two parameters, easy to deduce what would happen if they managed to extend their will to the World.
      They ARE the Zone. Quite litterally, they created it, and they maintain it in check yes, but at what cost? If something is too good to be true, then it's probably the case, and the same happens to them.
      No, C-Con isn't in the right from keeping people out of the center - and Strelok bought a solution, an imperfect one, but a solution. He couldn't foresee what was going to happen by killing them. It's basically also a theme in the movie and Book - a Monkey's Paw, so a miracle that ends up being a curse for all humankind - it's a recurring theme in the Strugatsky brothers bibliography - how superior powers/entitiee influence mortal lives, so no surprise it made it's way into Stalker

    • @kairosprods
      @kairosprods 20 дней назад +1

      @@crashingspectacular I've forgot - the "Center" in the end also is only the HQ of Monolith/C-Con, it's the only real reason why they keep Stalkers out of there, being exposed and moreover on their most sensible data/machines, other than that the Center is simply hell. More artifacts and maybe better jobs for Stalkers, but a LOT more danger, anomalies and secrets known only to the Zone.

    • @crashingspectacular
      @crashingspectacular 20 дней назад +1

      @@kairosprods Thanks for answering - I also read that C Con is still experimenting using the zone, makes sense now that Strelok would want to cut that out.
      I just started Clear Sky and it seems like the plot may follow up some of my other questions as well. I do want to know more about Monolith and the C-Con's intentions but idk how much the next two games cover those points.
      This is a really cool story and I'm enjoying each turn. I'll admit I was hoping for a twist where the C-Con are "good" or trying to make up for their mistake by protecting the world from the zone, but it probably would take away from the story's intended message

    • @kairosprods
      @kairosprods 20 дней назад +2

      @@crashingspectacular Well hard to think that all of this holds by itself - The C-Con must be everywhere in the Zone, in the first three games it's hinted that the Zone is far larger than what we can see, we know that there is X-Labs that weren't visited, and i hardly doubt that top-of-the-line tech is operating that much years without maintenance. So yeah, The Group, the organisation behind the C-Con must still bé active.
