But was it her first with a married man? She had so many sexual partners I think she began to feel disgust for herself. Every movie she was contracted for first started in some directors bed. It was the cost of fame for many women. Even Lucile Ball was a high price prostitute in her teens trying to brake into the business.

My Father knew her. Somewhere in the strongbox containing his 'memorabilia' there is a photo of the two together smiling. It was when he first showed me the box and told me what all was in it, I saw the photo and asked whom she was. His gaze shifted upwards, and with just the hint of a smile, he replied only that 'she was someone I once knew'. You could tell the memory was a fond one. Not fully understanding (I was a kid at the time), years later, my mother, as she was adding some of my own 'memorabilia' to the box, seeing the picture again, I asked, and she told me who she was.

My father met her when he was a sergeant in the 2nd AIF and she was entertaining troops in New Guinea with Jack Benny and Larry Adler. We still have the programme with her autograph on it. He said she was absolutely stunning and unlike others, more beautiful in reality than on the screen. It was a highlight of his time in New Guinea, and much appreciated by himself and the other soldiers. . What a monster Rex Harrison was. The lady in the shot at 1:33 is not Landis but Fay Wray in a still from King Kong. All so sad, she was adorable, so undeserving of her poor treatment.

This was unlike the many who hypocritically tried to create a saintly public images, whilst being unpleasant privately. Everyone then, in Hollywood, knew what he was, so none of the many who bemoaned their time with him could really blame anyone but themselves. It was not a case of getting into a relationship with a nice person, then finding you were wrong.

Maybe people just need to lower their expectations of actors... They are human just like the reyt of us. Why do people expect they all would live perfect lives with no dysfunction ever? It's no wonder people believe they are let down by actors. The public brings the disappointment in actors upon their self. They can have character flaws because they are human. Just like the rest if us. Being an actor doesn't mean they owe the public any saintly image.. Acting is a career they chose just like people choose their career. I never put them on a pedestal.

I’ve heard a few actors tell that Rex Harrison was a horrible man…I wouldn’t put much past him as he just thought of himself.!
Terrible tragedy that Carol ended her life so young and over Rex Harrison.!..Though there is a pattern of manic behavior with relationships..Most her marriages didn’t last long before straight on to the next..I don’t think this might have been Carols fault, some of her men wasn’t nice..Looking now at Carols life patterns of seems to bounce around.Carol bounced from one choice to the polar opposite of her choice.Seems to indicate a history of depression,a condition frowned upon to talk openly about back then..But Carol in the end was in a delicate state and made a awful choice in the end.Harrison might not have done it.But he didn’t help.
But though Carol might have had deep problems, she wasn’t weak..She dragged herself up,out and made a success of herself..A Star we still know and celebrate today.!
