She divorced him so that he could marry the actress Kay Kendall who, unknown to Kay, was dying of cancer. Harrison expected Lilly to remarry him after the death of Kay. He was shocked when she would not.
I saw the movie, “Behind Green Lights” recently and wondered why I hadn’t seen this actress before since she was so beautiful and a good actress. What a tragedy.
That’s the movie that got me interested in her. Same thing, why have an I noticed her before? Those close-ups of her in that picture were just so beautiful. I saw “Scandal in Paris” and before that “I Wake up Screaming” she really had a lot of genuine versatile talent.

The only difference that I've ever seen between Rex Harrison and many other Hollywood stars is that he made little attempt to hide the flaws in his character. Maybe people just need to lower their expectations of actors... They are human just like the reyt of us. Why do people expect they all would live perfect lives with no dysfunction ever? It's no wonder people believe they are let down by actors. The public brings the disappointment in actors upon their self. They can have character flaws because they are human. The Big Big hole in this story that you never questioned was Rex entered her bedroom found her on the bedroom floor and she died. ... next day her maid found her on the floor of her bathroom!
No, the narrator said that "Harris entered the bedroom, saw her on the floor, felt her pulse which was very weak, and instead of calling the ambulance, was searching thru her telephone book for the number of her private doctor to avoid embarrassment and career damage for her" yeah... right... Harris certainly committed a crime by not assisting a person in need and on the verge of death. He should have received a prison sentence with a complete end to his acting career. Did he?
@@mikmac220 It was rather difficult to understand what you meant by saying "you never questioned WAS Rex entered her bedroom found her on the bedroom floor and she died"...But it was easy to understand that you tried to put accent on the "bedroom floor" and then "bathroom floor"... no hard feelings.. 🙂
Im pretty sure that Harrison and the maid both found her in the same place. The bathroom was surely a part of the master bedroom. An "ensuite". To say that Harrison entered the bedroom and found her on the floor, and then the maid found her on the bathroom floor, may not be contradictory at all.

After so many years it is going to almost Impossible to discover the truth about the events surrounding her death. It is one thing to be suspicious about this and quite another to be able to prove it. Either way, this has to be a real tragedy in every sense of the word. We shall perhaps never know the truth unless some earth shattering evidence comes to light.

I know Rex Harrison was a rogue, not alone in that, but a murderer I don't think so. The lifestyles of the Hollywood elite was fickle and fleeting if you didn't make it by a certain age you were done. It must have been very hard to take when you have set your heart on becoming a great actress and finding you have probably missed your chance of that happening.
Her name is sort of familiar it seems that throughout her life and unfortunately her death she seemed to be fighting battles that unfortunately she couldn't win due to the time and the circumstances. It's quite possible the Rex Harrison was involved either directly or indirectly in her untimely demise and in Hollywood there are so many hidden secrets in the naked City and behind those nicely trimmed yards in Beverly hills that could have been one of them.
I’ve heard a few actors tell that Rex Harrison was a horrible man…I wouldn’t put much past him as he just thought of himself.! Terrible tragedy that Carol ended her life so young and over Rex Harrison.!..Though there is a pattern of manic behavior with relationships..Most her marriages didn’t last long before straight on to the next..I don’t think this might have been Carols fault, some of her men wasn’t nice..Looking now at Carols life patterns of seems to bounce around.Carol bounced from one choice to the polar opposite of her choice.Seems to indicate a history of depression,a condition frowned upon to talk openly about back then..But Carol in the end was in a delicate state and made a awful choice in the end.Harrison might not have done it.But he didn’t help. But though Carol might have had deep problems, she wasn’t weak..She dragged herself up,out and made a success of herself..A Star we still know and celebrate today.! Thanks for a great video..
Left out is that she participated in more USO entertainment of the troops than any other star (at a time when the living conditions of entertainers wasn't much better than that of the soldiers), and she contracted amoebic dysentery. She was in poor health when she died, which tends to reinforce the suicide ruling.
We all know and love Harrison in "My Fair Lady" but lets face it, he was an appalling person who treated those around him abominably. Women seemed to fall for him and that cut glass english accent, but he was a cruel bastard.

Did he?
@@marinaperkins9648 you clearly don't understand my comment. And to say No has no reason as a reply to what i stated
Poor Carol💔💔
I remember my mother saying it was rumored that she was pregnant and he refused to leave his wife or marry her..
She was with Otto Preminger too...
They said she had endometriosis, and couldn't conceive.
She was promiscuous just like Rex.
That was Lupe Velez
She was a troubled woman but she did it over a known heel. What women saw in him I will never know. Some women can’t be alone. She had to know what show business was about.
yes, blame the victim. Good idea.
@@tracyroweauthor I am not blaming her. I am pointing out that she made mistakes that led to her downfall. Harrison was a louse, and a notorious one. But he did not force her to do anything she did not want to do.
@@Outlier999 but you're not blaming her. Ok.
Here's a tip. As a man, maybe not comment on how woman are abused by shitty men.
@@tracyroweauthor She knew he was married and she was no saint either. He was a louse and he did her dirty, but she was not the first. What made her think he would be any better with her? He didn’t kill her. She did it to herself. I feel sorry 😢 for her, but that’s all. She was a troubled 😟 woman and probably not totally responsible for her actions. Anyone, man 👨 or woman 👩, who takes up with a married person is setting themselves up for a fall. They all claim they are going to leave their spouses, but very few do.
@@Outlier999 I didn't say he killed her. I said you're putting all the blame on the victim, which you are continuing to do.
Sad story 🥺 lovely looking woman & I am sure a future budding career 🇬🇧
Lana Turner was the "Sweater Girl", not Landis
There were many 'sweater' girls. Or Pin up girls.
Thank you!
Wow what.a pretty lady and such a sad end!
Don’t ever kill yourself for a man. They don’t deserve it. She could have find better.
Exactly,no man is deserving of you taking your life. You are precious, you are loved, I wish she had a close friend to support her heart ache.
She was married 4 times. She had issues.
This narrative is needlessly repetitive.
She was so gorgeous and had more talent than given credit for what a tragic death in the end she must have realize Rex didnt love her at all RIP CAROLE 🌷
She was great and beautiful!
I like this channel. However, he repeats facts when he cld talk about other things of interest in their lives.
I have been attracted to Carole Landis since I can't remember when. I was born after she began acting in films but out of all of the beautiful actresses of the '40s she was the most beautiful. Thing is, some years back I recall having a dream of her and she never left my mind. I guess the first time I saw her I wished I could find a girl just like her --- hence, a true dream girl.
I'm guessing the phrase Ping refers to a gentleman rising to the occasion?
What a beautiful woman,,,got it all curvaceous body, beautiful face,..R.I.P. Carole
She is beautiful. Never heard of her before but omg stunning
She was beautiful x
Never heard of her! But RIP Carole
Wow, was she beautiful.
Sad how many terribly sad people hide behind beauty and smiles then and now.
Love your channel !
Thank you so much Judy! 🙂
With a 37" bust, she was referred to as "The Chest", which was left out here.
"Dolittle douche" lmao
What a jerk.going to his lovers funeral by talking his wife.thats a slap to the poor lady and no respect to her death.
I am happy he and his wife showed up to the funeral all played there parts in Miss Landis demise.
Just found this channel!
I'm glad you did! 🙂
Thanks for this video, I hadn't heard of her bit before my time but very attractive like many had similar start and finish ih Hollywood. Thanks Brenton🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
Great video, but the actress at 1:33 is Fay Wray, a pro-mo still for King Kong I believe.
She was much more beautiful than MM.
Even when she smiled there was pain in her eyes most of the time.
She was really beautiful, but like so many women in Hollywood was treated badly and taken advantage of.
She was a beautiful lady
Hollywood chews you up and spits you out. She probably was upset about losing a big contract with a major studio.
Very sad ending. Gone to soon. Beautiful woman with a golden heart. May she Rest In Peace. Maybe now she 🧜♀️can be with the ghost of her English Sea Captain. ⚓️ Captain Daniel Gregg 🌊.
That was Gene Tierney
What a Beautiful Woman :). So Sad
0:12 No age more like the lana turner 2.0 of the 40’s. Look, the ressemblance is obvious ! There’s a bit of carole lombard in her too without their careers.
She was a fan of Carole Lombard hence her Hollywood name.
LT and CL only one year apart in age both changed their hair color to honey blonde and Miss Landis adopted the name of Carole in honor of Miss Lombard
Wow! She was stunning!
I agree coming from the biggest CL fan it went much deeper than RH
Are you kidding, She was a better actress than Marilyn.
Great video thank you
I’ve heard a few actors tell that Rex Harrison was a horrible man…I wouldn’t put much past him as he just thought of himself.!
Rex Harrison responsible!
That's what I think
@@monilaninetynine3811 When he was there she was still alive! My mother said she was pregnant!
@@johannarocho3040 I didn't know she was pregnant. But I just get a bad feeling about so-called "sexy Rexy."
What did this nice looking blonde, Carol Landis, ever see in Rex Harrison?
Left out is that she participated in more USO entertainment of the troops than any other star (at a time when the living conditions of entertainers wasn't much better than that of the soldiers), and she contracted amoebic dysentery. She was in poor health when she died, which tends to reinforce the suicide ruling.
Man, what a beauty Carole was, never heard of her, now I have, wow! Nice!!
One reason, I have fallen in love with Miss Carole Landis.
@@jamesbumbry8358 Nice!!!
What a beautiful woman
It's too bad that she felt for the womanizer
Rex Harrison. Once a womanizer always a womanizer. Her death sounded pretty dicey.
RiP.
Beauty does not promise happiness
Great channel ⭐️
We all know and love Harrison in "My Fair Lady" but lets face it, he was an appalling person who treated those around him abominably. Women seemed to fall for him and that cut glass english accent, but he was a cruel bastard.
And by now, hardly anyone remembers who Rex Harrison was. Like Bogart's first wife, who he married to stop her ruining his budding career.
Wasn’t her name Phyllis or Gladys? They fought a lot in public.
@@julietrask7497 Yup, they were known as the Battling Bogarts!
Scallop O'Hare, what was the story about Bogart and his first wife...
@@madeleine9907 She was a big star on Broadway, and he was originally a stage actor. It was during the Great Depression, and he had to support his parents. She could get him roles, or fix it so no one would hire him. He married her to keep his career. They fought a lot, and split up. He went to Hollywood, made great movies, and became a big star inhis own right.
@@scallopohare9431 That was Mayo Methot, Bogart's third wife. His first wife was Helen Menken. His second wife was Mary Philips. Bogart and Mayo were known as the Battling Bogarts. She was beautiful… what a shame..I remember (vaguely) a reference or two to “The Sweater Girl”, but did not ever hear who the reference was about. I didn’t remember hearing about her, specifically…. Soooo many people, lost or destroyed due to Hollywood…. What a absolute shame…
I thought the sweater girl was Lana Turner!!
