Spot on. The feedback from the body is so important. Years ago I used to take my panic disorder clients into places they feared like supermarkets. Their natural reaction would be to try and get in and out as quick as possible which sends the signal to the limbic system that supermarkets are dangerous. This makes panic attacks in supermarkets more likely. By encouraging them to go slowly and not keep checking the exit, although they would be nervous at first when they came out of the supermarket without a panic attack, they learnt that they could signal safety to their anxious minds through their physical behaviours. This discovery can be a real turning point in the treatment of panic disorder.

WOW … I haven’t been out for weeks because of agoraphobia brought about by being a victim of domestic violence but after listening to this my mental movie is going to be one of freedom imagining. going out and it’s a fantastic wonderful place
I’m trying it right now and will update
Ps at the moment I struggle to go 100 yards!
    I’ve been travelling
    I’ve been going out
    Went to a farm
    Went on a quad bike
    Met 5 dogs
    In a great relationship
Unfortunately yesterday I had a huge panic attack and feel that it’s set me back
    Any advice welcome Dennis

Hey hope your doing better but remember that the brain still remembers of your last panic so its normal to have panic attacks again. How you respond to them is what determines how long you are back in that anxiety cycle. Remember that nothing bad happens and you can still have a good day. Don't fear panic because you have made it out alive every time and you will everytime. Also, it's important to not avoid you got this!!!

Thank you. I did this exposure therapy and it does work, but then i had a massive panic attack and led me to being afraid of going anywhere. Recently ive just started back to exposure therapy. Today i drove to my old workplace and i actually enjoyed just sitting there talking with friends for 15mins(not long) but im usually trying to hurry myself along. But today i felt like i accomplished something. Thank you for this video because im working on exposure but have been doing it the wrong way. This time i will play a mental movie and go out and be mindful of myself and what im doing

I am suffering a very lengthy protracted withdrawal (15 months now) from coming off of SSRIs and Benzos after many many years and have developed very intense agoraphobia where I can no longer drive myself. It’s not the fear of driving itself but the fear of being far away from my “safe space,” which is my home. I tried to drive by myself a few weeks ago but did so by trying to muscle through, and in fact, re-traumatized myself. Today or tomorrow I am going to try the mental movie technique to retrain my brain to connect the act of driving with something positive rather than something terrifying and life-threatening. This is very hard for me as I have awful health OCD and physical symptoms that has been made even more intense by my body’s hyper-sensitized state as a result of an iatrogenic effect of the medications. Hopefully this technique will help! Thanks for this video and all that you do to help those of us suffering with health anxiety🙏❤️

Hey Mary, just for a point of reference, I was on benzos for over a decade and thought I had protracted withdrawal. I have been off for 11 months now and believe I never had protracted withdraw at all....it was anxiety. I tapered for 7 months leading up to stopping so I know I didn’t go too fast. I don’t know your story but I bring this up here because 1. I hated thinking that I had protracted withdrawal and for a while thought it would never end and 2. you might not have protracted withdrawal either. Maybe it’s just old symptoms returning now that you are off the meds. Just throwing it out there. I hope you some relief either way. 👍🏻

i was diagnosed with healthy anxiety a while back due to a b12 deficiency causing a panic attack in the car where i thought i was about to meet my maker lol. anyways while the deficiency has been treated it has caused physiological issues such as the fear of driving alone far from my "comfort zone" such as home with family or i need someone with me. The worst for me is having to drive on a highway sometimes alone, people getting impatient with me because im driving slower. meanwhile im having to deal with focusing too much on my symptoms of dizziness, heart palpitations, fear of passing out or causing an accident which they obviously dont know.
im also constantly eating which doctors have said is related to anxiety, i hope they are right but i dont know how to get pass this :(
im trying really hard to break this cycle because i truly feel trapped, i dont go out anymore i dont see my friends and i refuse to take medication for this because it brings a whole new can of worms to the story. anyways, this video couldn't have come at a more needed time, and ill be focusing on the pre driving visualization and see if that helps.

The exposure only seems to be confirming that stores and lines are dangerous.

Something about court triggers me badly and I noticed because my amygdala has been in threat mode now I feel stuck in it and dont know how to find the peace and to stop being hyper alerted and vigilant. Maybe because Im an empath. I get really bad anxiety and go into freeze mode and get lightheaded and naucious and its been this way for a couple years. Anticipation anxiety is the worst for me. I anticipate fears and the worst and I dont know why! Maybe because Im a good person and hes playing victim and making me out ot be the villain and its heart wrenching and makes me so emotional.
