Sagamaw Mi’sel Joe of Miawpukek First Nation has long held an ancestral responsibility passed down from his great-grandfather, Sylvester Joe.
In the late 1800s, Sylvester Joe was asked to complete two tasks. The first was to guide an English explorer across the interior of Newfoundland, helping him to find the Beothuk tribes, in order to exterminate them. The second task was bestowed on him from his community: to protect the Beothuk.
The British explorer never found the Beothuk, mostly thanks to Sylvester Joe’s quick thinking. Generations later, Mi’sel Joe continues to protect the Beothuk by aiming to prove that they were assimilated - not exterminated - and that descendants of the Beothuk still remain and exist in Newfoundland. He chooses to do this with a genetic mapping study inside his community.
The study not only finds Beothuk ancestry, but also uncovers a connection between the tribes of Newfoundland and the tribes of the Eastern Woodlands, thousands of kilometres apart and separated by an ocean.

Misel Joe is a wonderful person. I have always wanted to have a DNA test done to prove what I know of my family, my grandmother's grandmother was a Jeddore from Conne River. I now want to know if I also have Beothick in my bloodline.
Regardless, we are all related and connected. No matter if I get a test done or not.
    It's all so interesting.
    Love to you all!

@@BatCaveOz The DNA test companies may not have access to Beothuk DNA to prove our ancestry. We only have samples taken from the skulls of two individuals. National Geographic was working with the MiqMaq people at Conne River, but I don't live there. However, I have some of the last names from the database in my family tree. I'm also related to the African Indigenous people of Nova Scotia and have a picture of her, my Great Grandmother, from the South Shore. Its all very interesting

i grew up in NL learning little stories in school about the Beothucks. One thing that was not mentioned in these stories but which was always part of Beothuck lore is that the Migmaw were brought into NL by the French to wipe out the Beothucks. The Micmaw were paid by the skull or part thereof. On a trip to Nl many years ago I found a small book at the airport bookshop in Deer Lake which has affected me ever sense. At school I learned about a skeleton of a male Beothuck - whose skeleton in at the museum in St. Johns. It is wonderful to know that investigation goes on. i would very much like to know more. How can I contact this group?

When I arrived to Canada 40 years ago, I took an English course to qualify for Technical colloge. The course material was a textbook called "Tigers of the Snow", a colkection of Canadian short stories. One of those stories was titled "The People Who Were Murdered For Fun". It was about how the Beothucks were systematically murdered by British and French settlers by wholesale Massacres. These were crimes against humanity that I will never forgive Canada no matter how good they say Canada is. Canada should stand trial for crimes against humanity.

I am of Beothuk decent - you cannot blame modern Canada for what was done over a century ago. You simply cannot do it, it is wrong. My great grandmother was Beothuk, and when she was born she was adopted by an Irish immigrant family. Her parents had so many children and could not possibly care of feed her. She was raised by white Europeans - she was adored and loved. We should never judge by skin color, only the content of individual character, just as MLK said.

It is true that unknown numbers of Beothuk were killed by European settlers. But it is a falsehood to claim they were murdered for fun. The competition between the natives and the settlers was intense, and Beothuk often retaliated against these "invaders" by destroying their boats and fishing equipment, essentially destroying a settler's means of living. To exact revenge, white settlers often went in search of Beothuk, and as I said, unknown numbers were killed. Something never told by modern apologists though, is that possibly an equal number of Beothuk were killed by another group of "invaders," the Mi'kmaq from the area we know today as Nova Scotia. Also, by the early 1800s several serious attempts were made by governors and military leaders to establish friendly relations with the depleted Beothuk.

    • @click-ue3kc
      @click-ue3kc Месяц назад

@davedawe2420 revenge? That was mass murder. On the other hand, those were not settlers. They were crew members who were forbidden from defecting. They were outlaws, that's why the natives had all the right to try to dislodge them from their land that they had no legal status to be called settlers. As I said, they were outlaws. Also, the British government knew about the mass murders but they did noting about it. A little too late for friendliness, don't you think.

This misel Joe is robbing the lands and resources from Beothuk First Nation families who own the family tree dna test ♻ by Dr Carr .
Dr Carr gets paid by Misel Joe to do this. DR CAR has never stated these mikmaq are the Beothuk. He also knows the Beothuk Mitachondria is in our Beothuk First Nation Tribe cause he received the information.

If you want to find Beothuk descendants you need to genetically profile the Stuckless families.
Some intermingling of the Stuckless' from the Twillingate area and the Beothuks.

MISEL JOE WAS CAUGHT RUBBING HIS HANDS ALL OVER THE BEOTHUK FIRST NATION TRIBE FAMILIES SKULLS LAUGHING AND STATED HE HAS PLENTY BEOTHUK DNA NOW JUST BEFORE HE HAD DR STEVEN CARR DNA TEST HIM AND HE FOUND NO BEOTHUK MITACHONDRIA IN MISEL JOE A INDIAN BROOK MIKMAQ RESERVE NOVA SCOTIA DESCENDENT OF HIS GRANDFATHER THOMAS JOE . HE IS 2/3 EUROPEAN AND 1/ 3 MIKMAQ AND THE DNA AND FAMILY TREE OF THE JOE FAMILY WE HAVE A COPY OF IT AS EVIDENCE GIVEN TO US THE REAL BEOTHUK FIRST NATION TRIBE. THE DR CAR RECCOMENDATION TO US WAS FAMILY TREE DNA AND WE HAD ALREADY BEEN DOING THAT PRIOR TO DR CAR CONTRACTING YEAR 2019 WITH FAMILY TREE DNA.
MISEL JOE USES MEDIA TO COVER UP WHAT HE HAS BEEN DOING WHICH IS ATTEMPTED EXTERMINATION GENOCIDE WIREFRAUD TRAFFICKING STOLEN DEAD BODIES AND IN PERSONS ATTEMPTED MURDER OF BEOTHUK FIRST NATION TRIBE FAMILIES , AND TRESPASSING AND STEALING LANDS AND USING OTHERS TO SELL DEED OUR LANDS IN FRANCHISES TO HIM.
