    • James, the Adult in th...
Growing up has its advantages. Adults face life’s struggles differently than children do. Both children and adults feel strong emotions about the trials they face, but they display their emotions differently. A mature Christian can even dare to experience joy during such times. Whatever you may be facing in life, there are four realities about hardship you should know.
    HOW TO KNOW GOD
Curious about what it means to know Jesus? Knowing God doesn't mean trying to be a good person or even going to church. It means accepting the free gift of forgiveness and eternal life made possible by Jesus' death and resurrection. Learn more at connectwithskip.com/knowgod

This is so good. I just came out of a1 1/2yr trial. My health declined to the point where I was carried out of my home, hospitalized and after 5 esophageal surgeries sent to a nursing home. I was not only treated badly, ie medication withheld but poisoned repeatedly. Then mental hygiene arrested in the nursing home after my weight dropped, due to the poisoning. I continued praying. I just got home a few weeks ago. Before I left I had started a weekly Bible study there. Residents and staff wold come to me asking for prayer. I'm praying I can go because as a visitor and teach the weekly Bible study again and pray with the residents and staff. Praise, glory and honor to our Lord Jesus Christ.

The book of James was a book I could not read under legal pain drugs oxycodone for 12 years! Until an overdose, I can call it a blessing now. I believe He the Holy Spirit came upon me. The book of James is a favorite now. 1:2-8 especially. I can now count it all joy now.

Sadly, the verse in James is out of context. The book of James is written to the Jews ... see James 1:1. And the dispensation is during the Tribulation when the Jews will need to have works for salvation.

Skip correctly put the verse into context. He acknowledged that James was addressed to Jewish Believers of the Diaspora. That is, Jews who believe in Jesus Christ. The key word here is Believers. So, essentially, it is addressed to ALL Believers. Also, this is not about the Tribulation (big T). It is about tribulations (small "t" as in trials, suffering, and hardship).

@@satrinarlord7715 To try to say this is "essentially to all believers" is incorrect. We are told in Revelation not to add to the book. James 1:1 tells us who this is for, and it's NOT gentile believers in the Church Age.
"James, a servant of God and of the Lord Jesus Christ, to the twelve tribes which are scattered abroad, greeting."

So you're saying that this isn't for believers today? These teachings aren't for us? If not, then why is it included in the Bible? Why am I reading the Bible at all if it isn't meant for me? These are earnest questions. I was feeling better about my situation, but now, I'm really confused.

@tigerlily6795 Don't waiver. You're covered. I've read several well-known Commentaries on this passage by Biblical teachers and scholars who have studied Scripture for decades. They consider history, linguistics, etc. in interpreting and understanding Scripture. One such commentator wrote the following regardingJames 1: "... Since this was written for the body of Christians as it existed at that time, this is also a letter for us today."

@tigerlily6795 Thanks for your questions...let me try to help. First, as I mentioned, James 1:1 tells us the Book of James is for the 12 tribes. Revelation tells us not to add to the Book. So we don't read ourselves into places where God has told us who it is for. Next, all of the Bible is FOR us (Romans 15:4), but not all the Bible is TO us. For example, in the Church Age, we don't sacrifice animals. So not everything in Scripture is to be done by us. We are told to rightly divide the Word. One of the ways this is done is by dispensationalism. Don't let that word scare you. It means that different parts are for different groups of people at different times.
