Welp, I hate to be the bearer of bad news. Today I flew over to try it out (among other things), and the train failed spectacularly. The outbound trip (from Santa Fe) was 1hr and the trip back was *over 3 hours* with 2 of those being in between Lerma & SF. Supposedly our train was either last or second-to-last, but now Santa Fe service has been suspended indefinitely. Cause is still unknown / unpublished, on the ground I got lots of conflicting info from related to track geometry, to the signaling completely crashing, to electrical distribution issues.
Mexico City has one other commuter line running north from the Buenavista terminal. Sort of an older version of this. Other passenger lines are the Copper Canyon line in Northern Mexico, the Tequila Express from Guadalajara, the Interoceanic line using former Amtrak and British Rail stock and the Tren Maya running west from Cancun to Campeche and Palenque.

Have not figured out how to make this perma ent for all videos though. So everytime I watch your videos I have to go through this rgamorole to ake your captions readable (in your first couple of videos they were large enough, so not sure if you changed something or if something happened to my yotube settings).
Toluca has a Ford assembly plant, among other things. Maybe they could build a similar commuter train between Mexico City and the Teotihuacan pyramid complex to the north. The former (pre-1997) passenger train that operated between Merida and Mexico City passed right by Teotihuacan. The route was a bit convoluted, due to the mountainous terrain, such as Popocatepetl.
Months ago i read about plans of building a metro line from Metro Martin Carrera to the town of Tepexpan, near Teotihucan, they should do it all the way to Teotihuacan to cater more locals and tourists.
13:12 It looks like there's nothing but a couple sawhorses at the end of the track before the new construction. Hopefully there won't be any braking issues or that train is going for a dive.
Well, that is why some Mexicans were praying 💀 after line 12 fell off due to infrastructure issues. And this train is very high! You should look some pics they are beautiful specially between the 2 cities
Although my state of residence ( Florida ) has Brightline serving between Miami and Orlando International airport, other Florida cities like Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg could've benefited from their own version of El Insurgente if we had the right kind of political leadership from Tallahassee on down. But anyway, congrats to my Mexican neighbors for what they've achieved so far in tackling traffic congestion and hopefully slowing down climate change.
About the comment at 10:40, about the praying and the photos and videos it’s not because we are shocked. Praying is a tradition among people to pray before starting a trip, even a short one. And taking videos it’s because it has been a very emblematic project about the return of the trains to our country which had a long tradition on that in the past and about the infrastructure projects that out progressist government is doing, it’s more like an emblem of pride that we just get rid of the former neoliberal government once and forever.
This project was started by one of the previous presidents, who is not a member of the current ruling party. President Lopez even suggested to cancel the construction altogether (but ended up finishing it).
if you have a good population that knows how to behave near the tracks, and dont throw their trash on the tracks. No platform screen doors are needed, it saves a bit on cost aswell. Mexico is not the ricchest country on earth....
I like smooth Jazz and I still would not want the music playing, especially if it is loud. Let people make their own decision to play music via their headphones or enjoy the relative silence of the train journey.
I agree with you re rail versus roads. Sydney has just opened its new driverless Metro through the city centre and it's been a big hit. There are more routes on the way. By the way, CAF is building our new country trains in New South Wales. I have high hopes but expect they won't live up to my expectations.
I would say there is plenty to improve on. personally i am a huge fan of raised rail in favor of subways. Scenery is nicer and they are cheaper to build. There for sure is things done right here. Nice and flat entrance and wagons, wide wagons and wide walkway. Large airy window and fitting large airy stations. Now there are thing that could have been done better. And i do understand that some of those issues are cost constraints. The railway is suspended way to high for my liking. I know why that is the case, and why it would be hard to make it lower, but its still considerably higher than is actually practical. For multiple reason it might be better to have passenger come up on stairs where possible in steed of escalators. People with wheelchairs and trolleys need elevators anyway. And i get it, its a limitation of available construction infrastructure. And building it this high was probobly really the only viable solution. The speed is (considering the local train where i live) is fairly slow considering the fairly long distance between some of the stops. While i see no problem increasing this in the future, so i guess its not a huge issue. Passenger comfort is... lets say, sub par. Its not only the chairs, but also the lack of compartmentalization. This is more typical of a subway train than a commuter train. And lack of platform doors. The issue here is that its really hard to install them retroactive due to the deep integration with the system they need. So that is something typically is needed to think about from the get go. Of cause, having the track at standard gauge and at full 25kV AC voltage will allow the system to upgrade with high quality trains in the future.
@@matsv201 The design of that train is due Mexico’s geography and and its seismic problem, it is a unique engineering work in North America and it is perfect for the needs of the people, certainly there are things that could be better but there is nothing better on the continent.

Great trip. Since it's Elevated and no level crossing, it's like LRT and MRT in my country.
I'm glad that RUclips did not copyright strike the smooth jazz music that played in the train. 🎷

Good start, but mexico has a long way to go to catch up to europe or japan
More than 3,000km of modern rail lines are set to be operational by 2030 according to government agenda.
The terror of Mountain Mexico prevents projects of this type from being carried out and from taking so long, but the effort and work is being made.
México is building 4 new trains all over the country
@mundo.mexico 4? Thats cute. The US has about 50-60 different lines and we arent known as a good train country
@@lalakerspro we have 30,000 km of tracks in México, but we are building new electric double track lines all over the country, the US is building only 1 New line in los Angeles and there's a lot of work to do to finish that protect.
The lounge music is great 🎉
It's Mexican music 🎶🇲🇽🎶
Boa tarde simplys trem do México gostei Boa viagem 1:14
Wooow 👏👏👏👏💯💯💯💯💯👏👏👏
Welp, I hate to be the bearer of bad news.
Today I flew over to try it out (among other things), and the train failed spectacularly. The outbound trip (from Santa Fe) was 1hr and the trip back was *over 3 hours* with 2 of those being in between Lerma & SF. Supposedly our train was either last or second-to-last, but now Santa Fe service has been suspended indefinitely.
Cause is still unknown / unpublished, on the ground I got lots of conflicting info from related to track geometry, to the signaling completely crashing, to electrical distribution issues.
This is just the beginning. New passenger train lines have been announced for this administration. :) 12:25 Reminds me of the Parisian banlieue.
Interesting video.
They should play music by Notorius
Very nice, like.
All of (or most of) them needs to be connected, a disconected system is not good for anyone.
10:36 Mexican here!!
Now, there are two possibilities, it is not that we are shocked or panicked at trains, I can assure you we are not living in the 18th century, but maybe some devout people were just saying their daily prayers and decide to make a good use of time while using the train and pray there.......or.......well let's just say our government hasn't got a clean record on maintenaning infrastructure in good shape....you must be prepared for everything.
Also yeah, nowadays trains in Mexico are not as a common sight as they were before, something like what happened in the US, but for some railway enthusiasts, like myself, even "small" projects like this are exciting
Great train, Thibault! I'm with you, though, on the music. It's like "on hold" music.Terrible. I'd have to wear noise-cancelling headphones on this train. It looks like a great addition to the Mexican transportation system. Hoping to ride it one day!
I wonder is the air thinner at those altitudes?
The views look great!
People pray because the same people that allow the fall of CDMX metro line 12 in 2021 is the same people that rush, operate and mantain this line...just take a look what have they done to Mexico City STC Metro system and how is working...at the expense of the taxpayers that have to use it
Not bad at all
Was there an error in the video, it seems all text is missing?
The subtitles are still here. Simply allow subtitles (CC) on the top right corner
Oh, the subtitles are in the CC now. Thank you! I was very confused.
Yes, that is very good. A change in presentation style is welcomed: your mark 87%!
ESTE ES UN BUEN MEDIO DE TRANSPORTE DE MI MÉXICO QUERIDO, SALUDOS
I saw few comments about plataforms screen doors and tbh mexico don't use them even on the new metros or rail projects.
I dont know if it is about money or choice, but I see mexico preferring the old way.
Finally figured out how to make your tiny caption font readable: click on gear icon with caption already enabled. Then click on th language you have chosen, and at the top right of the "box", there is an "OPTIONS" option where you can set font size, opacity etec.
This is one of fastest trains in Latin America - the fastest one is the Chilean Terrasur intercity train (160 km/h)
160km/h is milk train speed here.
I'll have to try that when I visit Chile in January!
Both are the same 😭 even the train maya id 160km/h. But El Insurgente is not at full speed until the section of Observatorio is complete
Mayan train can speed up to 200 km/hr
@xavi4694 that is a lie lol only up to 160km/h but the tracks are made for more capable speed
Well, that is why some Mexicans were praying 💀 after line 12 fell off due to infrastructure issues. And this train is very high! You should look some pics they are beautiful specially between the 2 cities
elevated railway = best railway
Hear that, Cara Mendelsohn? Elevated rail works.
i hope you do tren maya!
I’d be interested to see what you think of Mexico’s HSTs
they dont have any
@@lalakersproIt's true that Mexico does not have high speed rail. I think they were referring to the HST trainsets that Mexico bought second hand.
@@ZapFlashDit does , they operate on the Interoceanic train
They put the music so loud because no one read the manual that says how to lower the volume! haha
Any restrooms onboard or at the station?
Although my state of residence ( Florida ) has Brightline serving between Miami and Orlando International airport, other Florida cities like Tampa, Clearwater and St. Petersburg could've benefited from their own version of El Insurgente if we had the right kind of political leadership from Tallahassee on down. But anyway, congrats to my Mexican neighbors for what they've achieved so far in tackling traffic congestion and hopefully slowing down climate change.
Can't wait for Brightline West!
Did you check the new Trian Maya?
This is a more touristy train but "el chepe" in northern Mexico is a cool scenic one.
This is another awesome train video thanks.🚂🚃🚃🖖
3:20 Someone was smoking making some letters upper case while others are lower case.
How long until the expansion is completed?
Late 2025
7:13 I agree. It should play mariachi music. 🟢⚪🔴
Trains should be silent.
@@mmkjijhuks1841 you are right but it ended up being a symbol together with Tren Maya and Interoceanic Railroad.

What gear do you use?
I'm surprised that they didn't install any Platform Screen Doors considering that this is a newly built railway line...
Tbh not any metro o rail project has that type of door. I would México is not fun of it
if you have a good population that knows how to behave near the tracks, and dont throw their trash on the tracks. No platform screen doors are needed, it saves a bit on cost aswell. Mexico is not the ricchest country on earth....
Looks like Tokyo
2:56 Parece el tren de alta velocidad Japón! 😂
I like smooth Jazz and I still would not want the music playing, especially if it is loud. Let people make their own decision to play music via their headphones or enjoy the relative silence of the train journey.
Old ass trains finally operating after years
Idiot
I agree with you re rail versus roads. Sydney has just opened its new driverless Metro through the city centre and it's been a big hit. There are more routes on the way. By the way, CAF is building our new country trains in New South Wales. I have high hopes but expect they won't live up to my expectations.

Who was playing the jazz music !? Some complained here, but I love jazz !! 👍💜🥁🐉🎤🎶💞

That damn music. What a stupid idea to have it for the whole journey.
😂😂😂
lol 🤣
Yeah that's not a mistake.. the gov can literally strike down any video they want which involves their infrastructure.
Who tf walks on an escalator 😂
As of Sunday October 20th, Popocatépetl volcano about 60km from mexico city is erupting BTW.
@@la76521 i was redering to speficicallt the level cake construction mothod that force them to build so high. It have nothing to do with earthquakes but rather with lack of advanced precast factories.

I am glad to see President Sheinbaum move on from her disastrous Mexico City metro collapse scandal when she was in charge as mayor and invest like her predecessor in trains, trains and more trains! Now make the Monterrey-Laredo-San Antonio-Austin-Dallas HSR line a thing! That would probably do gangbusters service from the start!
