- Rebel Wilson, the Australian actor famed for her roles in Pitch Perfect and Bridesmaids, has poked fun at the diversity controversies dominating this year’s awards season.
Speaking on stage at this year’s Baftas, Wilson - shortly to be seen in How to be Single and in Sacha Baron Cohen’s Grimsby - said she had been “been practicing my transgender face” in the hope of securing an award in coming years.
"I'm sociologically programmed to want chocolate on valentine's day".
HAHAHA...that was awesome.
And the guys in front loved it. He was crying from laughter. Lol
@@liliyalapik7434 she was talking about him
"ValentiMe's day"
@@nateskii ... yeppers....i heared it too.
1000th like
Give Rebel a BAFTA just for this speech alone.
+Ryan Hollinger SO TRUE>
OMG yessss!!!! give a bafta an oscar anything!!!😂🤣😭i died watching this
yessssssssssaaaa
and just search for what she did yesterday :D :D
Yes!
Just remember if she didn't become an actress she would be a hell of a lawyer
She is already a lawyer. Won her case a few months ago
@@yaffacrisologo-ama7035 Really ? Do tell...
@@ericconnor708
Yeah she sued a magazine company in Australia and won last year, she represented herself.
@@xxa110 That's actually not correct, Rebel was represented by barristers Matthew Collins QC, and Renee Enbom QC. Having said that, Rebel actually has a Bachelor of Laws from the University of New South Wales, so I don't doubt she could have represented herself if she'd wanted to.
Have never seen a speech that gets a laugh at every sentence lol
Very strange vibe. Creeped me out.
@@wecanthandletruths try getting a sense of humor
@@wecanthandletruths What?
yes usually you kinda expect ppl to laugh at every sentence so when they don't u get awkward but she killed it
I didn't know the audience was a bunch of Optimus Primes
lol audio is messed up
looool
+Quarker Genius, pure genius.
best comment ever
Quarker 😂😂😂
I think Rebel is hilarious, I just wish she was in quality movies, and not always pulling the same bumbling overweight girl role she always gets.
+TheSacko I think she'll get there over time. I think it's a bit like Jonah Hill, he has also evolved in his roles. Before he was typecast all the time too.
+TheSacko - A diet would fix that problem.
+Charlotte DC That's a great point. The only thing I would say is Jonah was in funny movies even before he started in Moneyball,Wolf of Wall Street. Rebel has been in one good movie. She would have been a good choice for the Ghostbusters movie.
+TheSacko
As an Australian from Sydney who watched her in Fat Pizza from 2003 - she has always played that role... She was always an annoying character as well, I am genuinely amazed that she has become the worldwide sensation that she has.
+ajnode I agree. There's hundreds.of them in Mt Druitt
Ok, that was great. She should write the scripts for the movies she's in.
I think most of her lines in the movies she's in are made up to at the moment.
her role as Toula in Fat Pizza back in aus was so perfect for her
she does
Actually that is how she climbed the ladder cause she did wrote her own scripts from a very young age in Australia.
She does
"chocolate on valentine's day" - that's genius
She's said it the best though
museak 38 Im brown and wld not mind being called cafe mocha.
@@anand9091 What does that mean? I didn't get it.
@@neiltomy777 the 2016 awards were on February 14th(valentine's day) and Idris Elba is black i.e. chocolate
@@kevinskipp2762 no I meant Vale-m-times?
*"I'm just sociologically programmed to want chocolate in valentine's day"*
Works brilliantly with a British audience Probably wouldn't have gone down as well at the Golden Globes for example.
That's because we are more witty here ✌️
You'd have to make crude and racist jokes, preferably targeting at children of colour for the American audience.
MagicalKid really? I'm thinking it's the opposite. People are so over conscious here that nothing is funny. Anytime anyone makes a joke, they're either racist, homophobic, or a misogynist. I guarantee she would not make any jokes about being transgender in America. People would have flipped out. When it's not anything offensive, it's just funny.
@ms wpwm Don't really understand your point but OK. Were all allowed to have our opinions. The fact that you started off by using Joy Behar as a reference though makes it intrinsically clear that you and I have very different opinions. And that may be why I can't understand your point.
The Americans did get their knickers in a knot with the transgender part.
Rebel Wilson needs to be the hostess of the next Golden Globes.
OMG, that would be hilarious! I would love to see that!
pam0626 they can’t handle it! Is like Ricky is to realistic
Oh yes! I just can't wait for it. Her performance is worth waiting for. 😍😍😍
Too many Americans would complain!
@@L4u84S Don’t think so. We love Ricky Gervais.
"diverse members" lol
+prashant bhatia I didn't get this bit of the speech?
ohhhhh right thanks haha
Liam McCaffrey lmao. You don't think she's witty enough. Me neither. Maybe some of the audience saw it that way. You're probably right :)
+Liam McCaffrey I'm australian - it was a penis joke
Liam McCaffrey it's definitely a penis joke inspired by the lack of diversity at the Oscars. As well as the 'transgendered' joke which is also poking fun at her own face.
She attacked the two main issues of any award shows, male dominated wins and racism. YOU GO GIRL!
Giving awards based on talent should not be an issue
@@twostep6713 dont know which world you live in
@@kimtae9329 did i say something wrong?
@@twostep6713 i think you live in a utopian vision of world where everyone is getting awards just because of talent.
@@kimtae9329 Nope. I am not saying that all awards shows are fair and equal. I just don't go to every award show with gender and skin colour as "THE" focus.
Nearly two years later I’m still watching it😂😂 this speech is LEGENDARY 😂🙌🏻
Daisy Ruland watch the 2020
Yes, I me too
she's such a natural, with the right vehicle, she will be a big star
+Winston Appleyard she's not a big star? everyone here in Australia considers her a star. oh my bad, i forgot she needs hollywood validation before she's actually considered a 'legit' star. zzz
+Jayson Fresshticles she's pretty big alright
+Winston Appleyard She is a huge star, doing so well for herself.
emphasis on "huge"
Matthias de busser Who cares about her weight ? Shes a great talent
Usually these are so cringeworthy, she was HILARIOUS
lol if I was nominated and lost I wouldn't feel bad. That speech was lighthearted and fun :))
Seriously. This was a breath of fresh air. The only outrage are the keyboard wino's.
The one bit of light in a self-obsessed, ego-massaging, souless, humourless night. Bravo Rebel !!
So hilarious. Fantastic speech, well written but also well delivered. Sounds like the audience loved it too. I laughed so much
best bit of the awards
+Cayden Elliot Yes ! Bafta is boring and did a great job to wake up them ^^
She is funny as hell, you know she knows she can do these types of jokes in the UK and at home because we have a sense of humour
A sen.... Oh baby
Brilliant and brave! Kudos, Rebel Wilson.
Another aussie artist killing it abroad.
i really really appreciate a comedian who can make me laugh out loud at almost every line. says a lot about their overall delivery and charisma.
Why the fuck does it sound like they have made the audio 10 times more distorted.
+Harry Oak So it doesn't get taken down
+RafeFS have you seen how youtube dmca works? better safe than sorry
+Harry Oak It was recorded through a paper-towel tube.
It sounds like amplitude modulation (same effect used for Daleks).
It's for dramatic effect...obviously.
that ended way too soon. if there was a 10 hour version i would watch it
The chocolate part had me laughing pretty hard.
So effortlessly hilarious with just over 1 minute of stage presence. I must say this is brilliance! Every line was a punch...
No comments about oscars being racist. That was the most funny thing I've heard in a while.
Literally many people have done so. Look it up.
If someone made a list of the 10 best 2015-2016 Oscar season moments, *THIS presentation speech would definitely be on it.*
This is so short, I need more
The diverse members joke KILLED me 🤣
Please explain it?
Edris Alba and Rebel Wilson should make a movie together! Haha!
Sorry Idris is not related to Jessica Alba.
@@johanna2086 ooof I'm commenting from the future in February 2020 and Cats is the laughing stock it has been humiliated beyond all reason lol sorry bud
This aged horribly 😂
@@Risingofthephoenixxx Funnily Rebel is the one cashing in on that laughing stock. She's getting way better value from it than if it had suceeded.
It's funny that they were in a movie together... Cats, but we don't talk about it. 👀
Rebel Wilson is amazing and I love her so much!
Omgggggg give her a fucking trophee she deserves more for that speech than other things. Im dying 😂😂😂
most underrated actress ever! With a law degree!
there was so many gems in that speech
I've lost count how many times I've watched this already 😂
An American audience would have stayed silent at this
Not really
This American stayed silent 😆. I thought it was funny though.
Well, four years later...
I saw many Americans in the audience! And they were wide mouth laughing.
I found this one after I watched her recent speech 😆 and this is as Savage and funny as the recent one!!
superb performance
She kills it every time! I’m psychologically programmed into wanting chocolate on Valentine’s Day. Omg genius
She was great at the 2020 baftas as well!
I can't stop watching it again and again
Grey Cell same here... I too like chocolate, but like all the time 🤣🤣🤣
First time I had ever seen or heard of this woman but I'm in love.
Look up Pitch Perfect
"Want chocolate on Valentine day . Transgendered face wins BAFTA."
Oh, this Asian Chinese man is in love with her. Her defiance toward the Political correctness nonsense is amazing. In this age, which actress dared to do standup jokes like that! I love her!

The five "attractive" nominees she's referring to are:
Benicio del Toro (Sicario)
Christian Bale (The Big Short)
Idris Elba (Beasts of No Nation)
Mark Ruffalo (Spotlight)
Mark Rylance (Bridge of Spies)
Rylance won.
always a big winner REBEL!
I feel terrible. I love Rebel Wilson and think she's hilarious but I can't even focus on the speech because the laughing from the audience sounds like robots having a panic attack.
It didn't even sound real after a while
"robots having a panic attack" gave me such a horrific Black Mirror mental image that I paused the clip and commented. Artificial intelligence dealing with anxiety, someone GET ON THIS NOW

So nice that someone from the Guardian brought their camcorder. Quality as always.
jack whitehall looking on realising how unfunny he is
😂😂😂😂 He only got famous thanks to familial connections. I tried to like him but he's taking roles that funnier people deserve.
+goodsirknight oh that's jack whitehall, i keep on thinking on Nicholas Hoult.
+goodsirknight jack whitehall is pretty funny and he was on tv doing bits like mock the week for nearly ten years before he got "famous"
+Luke harpur mock the week is terrible, in my opinion - so obviously set up to the second with no improv. and jack whitehall is one of those unbearable comedians i just cannot watch - really full of himself, no sense of self-deprecation and his jokes are predictable and a lot of the time based around his privileged background
+goodsirknight "Who?" - said every non-Brit
She was on fire, how this didn't go viral back in the day ?
Still waiting for breakout role. What an underrated comedian
You can’t help but love Rebel 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Her timing and delivery were spot on and had me in stitches.
A little known fact about Ms Wilson which I feel compelled to divulge - is that she is actually 'fellow Aussie' Cate Blanchett's stunt double!
