How to Mineral Wash Clothes

- Whaaat up everybody! So today I'm going to show you how to get this mineral wash effect on a t shirt.
so I took the black shirt I wanted to use and tested out bleach on it.. and I didn't like how yellow it made it.
So instead I'm going to use water based ink for screen printing.
I just put it in a little container and added water. I got it to a constancy of something like milk. Noice!
Next I got my shirt. I just used an old shirt of mine... and a hard service I can put inside the shirt.
I put down some spray adhisive so that the shirt will hold still
then take some round pebbles.. put it in the ink mixture, take it out, rub it in your hands (to evenly spread the ink on the rocks) then rub it on the shirt.
Every so often take one of the pebbles and dip it into the ink.. and then rub all the rocks in your hand. So that you get more ink on the rest of the rocks... then rub em on the shirt..
So I rotate the shirts.. and rub the rock on it.. and do this that over and over again till it's all done..
This took a hot second.
The hardest part was the sleeves.
After you get it done to how you like it.. ( I would let the ink marks be whiter than you think, cause it will fade a bit) you'll want to heat set that ink.
I used and iron. If your shirt has a design on it, you'll want to put on Teflon paper or something to protect the design from the iron.
after ironing it, I put it in the over like I did on the "how to screen print a t shirt' video. And then washed and dried it.
But I didn't like how much it faded... So I decided to do the whole process over again with a thicker ink mixture.. and after ironing it and putting it in the oven ( and I also put it in the oven for longer) washing and drying it... It turned out pretty cool.

Love the tut!! Definitely curious how you came up with the technique.
Most black shirts turn yellow or orange when bleached because they were dyed with a red base dye instead of blue. There are blacks that turn grey if they were blue based, but it's not as common. So, what I do is after like tye bleaching something black, I'll put it through a quick and light dye of either blue or grey. Just be careful cause that can turn it green or brown if not done appropriately. and if you have a logo or graphic, it will mess it up
So i just played around till i found something that i liked.. I would have rather used bleach though!! re dying it in blue or grey is genius! I might have to try it again sometime..

@@Shmoxd Haha I came here to give the same advice - I've done a lot of painted bleach designs or random bleach effects on garments; after washing the bleach out, re-dying in either the original colour or an entirely new colour is perfect and you're good to go - way less messy than stones and ink, and way easier too!
I like the greenish brown over bleach with the re-dye process. it reminds me of mad max (the original)
how about mixing the solution with blue dye in the spray bottle?is that gonna work?

you could find a way to turn new clothes into a vintage/old look
put the clothes on salt water for 3 dayas, then wash it normally

this is so good! I've been searching for a way to diy the rtw acid/stone/mineral wash look at home for a few projects, but everyone else is doing bleach that looks nothing like it. but this is genius!! thanks man

didn't really think the mineral effect would actually be done with minerals (well, pebbles) thats pretty damn neat
helllll yaaaa!:) i tried it with a pumas stone at first.. but the pebbles worked best.
