Let me preface this with, I don't truck for a living, I'm a farmer. That being said, I keep a close eye on trucking markets. From what Ive seen, trucking is a lot like farming. It's cyclical. The best thing we can do is save up in the good years to make it through the bad. The silver lining is if you can make it through the bad years, you're going to make it for the long haul. There can also be a lot of opportunity in these tough years. Put yourself in the right position to take advantage of these hard years. Try to keep yourself from being highly leveraged too. If your equipment is bought and paid for, your cost of operating will also be low. Keep grinding!!

I agree 💯 My goal is to get my first truck...no matter what it is...pay it off and then go get what I really want...A long nosed Classic Pete; customized inside and out the way I want. Once that's done; prayerfully I can build my fleet from there. I'd be happy with a Fleet of 10 trucks with plenty of drivers but ultimately I'd live to own a fleet of 100+ trucks and be able to afford everything that comes with it. I'm leaning Heavily on God. He's never failed me so I know my vision is doable. WE UP....KEEP TRUCKIN!!!!!

@@TheIncredibleHoosier when it was good I did well. A trip from Goshen to Nevada or New Mexico paid around 3800. And I would do that and be back in 4 to 5 days. Then pick one up going to Florida for about 1800. But Georgia is home. So you can do the math on what I was making gross a week. But it's not like that anymore. That's why I came over to hotshot.

I ran with my own authority for about a month and a half and it beat me black and blue!! I LOST money. I have always LOVED trucking with a passion but the OTR freight/spot market BS made me a absolutely LOATHE trucking!!! So I pulled out and went and leased on with a company that hauls entertainment and shows (specialized freight). It’s soo much better! The oilfield peeps aren’t even making any money anymore, they keep lowering the rates just like what’s happening with OTR from the brokers. Fuel being so high and all the middle men messing it up, you hit the nail on the head with everything you said. Truckers don’t get no respect mayne 😤😤😤

And keep up your words of advice, for those of us who are looking in to trucking, having someone coming out sayin it like it is, helps those of us trying to do our home work before taking the leap. I have my Class B , Permit for Class A...(I started out going for my class A until the b.s . Started )
Things seem a little rough for me ...out of 6 instructors 2 gave me a hard time...at the end
...and I heard a student tell me they will black ball you in the region if they dont like you...
Not thinking too much but I feel as though that's my case
On the day I passed my driver's test for Class B ...the 4 instructors was proud except for the other two ...it's like I shocked them ...and one of the descent instructors pulled up to one of the instructors and said ...you wasn't doing nothing but hating on him...
3 weeks later seems like jobs wanna hire me but they energy change after a few days ...
Sidenote ...I haven't been having no problems getting a job, though ..(it's just in trucking ...Class B 's and some Paid training Class A ...I haven't applied bcus I wanted experience first )

I'm in reefer, and they're throwing out rates like I'm a dry van, like the reefer runs on water. I knew the gold rush wasn't going to last, paid equipment, but I didn't think it was going to be that bad. These brokers are brutal.
The brokers are the pimps and the owner operators are the hoes. 🤔 But one of these days people will see that.

I’ve been trucking for a decade. I love trucking. But I don’t see an entrepreneurial future. Scalability is tough. You end up creating a job for yourself. How do you exit? You sell everything, are you wealthy? What is actually in your control? Very little. I love the road, but the path to wealth is…crooked. There are better avenues. I make good money company side, I will save up and get out.
Reason co's going out of business is because they over leveraged and not playing the corporate game .

Unfortunately you have it all wrong. Brokers have computers and phones but not TRUCKS!!! Truckers are their own worst enemy and can't figure it out? Anyone that says things like; I have to take this bad load to pay bills (I'd never go broke working, sitting at home possibly but never driving), helps with fuel, at least it gets me out of this bad area, is the damn problem. They have f'd up the price and a bad area to you is home to someone else. But none of this will ever change because there's a never ending influx of new owner ops that just don't understand what rates need to be. Then, after they can' master the simple legal stuff, they think OS/OW is where the money is at so they scrape together the money or rent trailers to do larger stuff that is tremendously harder to price correctly and just end up even further in the hole. You're talking about bills upon bills of supporting yourself and others yet you could be competing with some people that literally has nothing. No home, no car and essentially no life. Everyone thinking they should get into trucking needs to let the "winner" of that battle sink in.
