she might’ve been nervous.. I’ve seen her live and her delivery is much tighter and she’s more relaxed. She’s got good material.
I haven't seen her before, but I've found this is the case for a lot of comics on late night shows. It's not easy to take 5 minutes out of your act and sell it like this. Usually they've had time to play the audience with their opener and know how they'll respond to certain jokes. A lot of times they're just nervous too, like you said. It's a tough gig.
She has great material, but here it's "the best of," and the flow is missing. Also she's forcing smiles like she never does on her other YT videos at smaller venues, maybe too much agent influence?
Yeah because all hlof her "good" material are sex jokes with more sex jokes and you can't say that stuff in this show sooooooo she's gonna suck

Her story on This is Not Happening was really really good. You can definitely tell she is super uncomfortable here.
The jokes are funny, but it feels like she wrote "pause for applause" after every punchline.
It's because the audiences on these talk shows are always poor, or at best "too polite". They only allow themselves a little chuckle. People are usually drunk, and howling with laughter.
Nicky Morris that's when you learn how to adapt to your audience. Pauses for laughter should be used when necessary, they should not be part of the joke

I think it's obvious....she had six minutes to fill and worked out her routine to do exactly that. As others pointed out, studio laughs aren't the same duration as club audiences, so she simply misjudged. That being said, she met her time goal exactly, as a professional should.
I noticed it too. Pausing for laughter is common and all the best comedians do it, but there was something about the cadence or rhythm of this performance that just felt off. It's almost as though the pauses were just a touch too long or something. Overall, she's hilarious. Her jokes were great, her voice had some range, and there was a good energy.
I too thought that the timing seemed odd when I was watching this, and I finally realized that because of the way the audience was miked it sounds like the laughs were significantly shorter than her pauses. I put on headphones, turned up the sound, and realized that she is just waiting for the audience's laughter to die down. It flows just fine when you can hear the audience properly.

I just read some of the comments and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but me? I loved her. I thought her material was really original and that none of her jokes were about relationships/sex/men.

I agree! It's such a different feeling watching things live compared to on a screen as well... I think those pauses wouldn't be half as noticeable in person and that it'd probs encourage the audience to engage and listen.... Can't wait to see more from her!

She is what Amy Schumer would be if she was hot and funny. Amy Schumer is not funny, she is not clever, she is crude and disgusting. Amy Schumer is one of the only female "comedians" and that is why she is famous. The same goes for Sarah Silverman. They are not funny.
They only get attention because they are in a male dominated profession and they are a rare (female) catch.

What's with the pauses?
It's legitimately uncomfortable to watch; makes me think the laughs are pre-recorded.
I think it's nerves and trying to make sure everything hits right. Look at any of the other stuff she has online and it's not like that. She's still funny though. Good premises and good joke writing.
I think she's nervous AF. She seems like she's trying to settle her stomach every time she opens her mouth. I know that feeling.
She's just confident in her jokes. When you're nervous or afraid you're not doing well you'll have the tendency to want to plow through
maybe some technical disfunction? Maybe some people in the off holding up all sorts of signs confusing her?.. I bet there's a 1000 showbuiz reasons for this. I watched her before and she wasn't awkward at all and her jokes were welll written, so... I guess it has nothing to do with her
When the people in the comments are asking "what is the pause after a joke?" you gotta remember these are Fallon viewers, they aren't used to laughs happening after jokes or using their brains.

People criticizing her pauses but look at how well they work for her! She’s getting laughs on every punchline because she leaves the pause for audience to ‘catch’ the joke. Most comics don’t learn that until later in career

However, she did not have long pauses in her other work; I think it is the angst of the big gig. You know, like when you do sh!t on a math test after a night of listening to your dad beat on your mom? Like that.
Read the comments first, was expecting an awkward car accident. It really wasn't bad at all. I don't even think I would have noticed the pauses if people weren't bitching about it.

It just hit me. She looks a lot like Brian Regan, and her delivery comes across very similar.
The pause if obviously noticeable to begin with but I like the jokes and she gives off a positive vibe

To everyone talking about the timing, she's on Fallon and probably nervous, taking her time to make sure she follows the routine and doesn't get mixed up in her place. I think the timing is something that comes with practice and expertise.
I gave a framed picture of myself to my secret santa at work, it was his first month and Christmas with us so I volunteered to be his secret Santa, normally people give out beer and wine or whatever but I thought it would be nice for him to have a really cheesy picture of me instead. I did tape a gift card to the back. The year before I gave my secret Santa a chia pet also with a gift card, there's a lot of other things I gave out for birthdays too. The look on their faces makes it all worth it.

If anyone’s asking about the pauses, just read her body language. You can tell she’s really nervous. It’s like she’s trying to build up a bit more courage between jokes. She’s terrified, and a newbie. Just give her a bit of a break.

I too have the deadly peanut allergy.
I hate getting injured; doesn't happen a lot of course but I'm allergic to like 99% of all painkillers out there. Like when I got into this really bad car accident 22 years ago they gave me this gas that put me to sleep but wasn't really effective and I kept waking up and making jokes. The surgeon hated me but everyone else loved me because I was hilarious. Also, I'm allergic to cake products. Everytime someone offers me some type of cake I say I can't eat it and they walk away and tell people I hate cake. I don't hate it, I can't eat it or I will get really really sick. There's a difference. I've had fried chicken every year for my birthday since I was eight years old. 35 years of fried chicken for my birthday.
