Paperboy is a game doesn't really need an introduction. It's one of the most well-known arcade games to come out of the 1980s, and it has seen regular rereleases and ports ports over years, not to mention a couple of sequels.
It's a simple game. As you might expect, you play as the neighborhood's newspaper delivery boy, and your goal is to deliver the paper to everyone that's a subscriber. In video game land, however, things are never that simple.
Pedaling about the neighborhood, you encounter a wild variety of hazards that need to be dealt with quickly if your going to survive all seven days. Old ladies and dogs give chase, unruly children on skateboards and go-karts careen into your path without warning, ghosts and tornadoes appear out of thin air: Paperboy's version of suburban America is a dangerous, violent place that us not to be underestimated.
Paperboy's only weapon is his stack of papers. A well-aimed shot with one can stop any hazard's approach, and it can make for an extremely satisfying smash sound when you put one through someone's living room window. These papers are limited in supply, but you can gather more by grabbing the glowing bundles you see in people's yards, and there are enough around that you aren't likely to run out unless you make a habit of wasting them.
If you miss a delivery (or smash a window as you're attempting to deliver the paper), the customer will cancel their subscription. As I'm sure you can imagine, running out of subscribers is not ideal. You can win them back, though - for every day that you make a perfect run, you'll gain a new subscriber.
Paperboy was released on every platform imaginable in the late 80s/early 90s, but I'm going to hazard the guess that many (if not most) people in the states known it best in its NES incarnation.
Like any NES port, there are some heavy compromises made, but it still does its job well enough to keep the Paperboy feeling intact. The graphics are substantially worse than the arcade's, and unlike in the Sega ports, there is only one street to play. Still, the controls successfully made the transition from analog handlebars to the NES d-pad, the sound effects and music are nicely done (albeit lacking any synthesized speech), and the difficulty level is balanced just right.
It's nowhere near as impressive as the Genesis version, but Atari did manage to keep the spirit of the game alive in this port. I loved it as a kid, and even now I can still see its appeal. It's a game that is easy to throw in to play for a few minutes, only to look up at the clock and realize that somehow a half-hour has passed.
I never did manage to get the hang of that obstacle course, though!

There is a game that was developed by Insomniac Games for the PlayStation in 1996, called Disruptor. It is Insomniac Games' first game, with Universal Interactive Studios co-producing with Interplay for the publishment of the game. In 1998, Insomniac later went to develop the Spyro series starting with Spyro the Dragon, and its two sequels in 1999 and 2000.
Hence to the reason on why Paper Boy retires in the most glorious fashion imaginable, he somehow made loads of money on the job.
Imagine having to paint your house so that the Paperboy knows that you want a newspaper...

I played this game in the arcade for about three years before I realized I wasn't supposed to smash every window on the block.

Loved spending the night at my friend's house as a kid and we play this all night! Good game to put you to sleep eventually.

This port of Paperboy was actually done by a company called Eastridge Technology and was the VERY first NES game to be developed in the USA rather than Japan or Europe.
I still hear the theme song in my head whenever I ride my bike.

When I was a kindergartner NC, I always wondered what was the fella on the floor doing with us legs waving them into the air? Turns out in the arcade version, he was break dancing.
I hated the houses with the Lawn Mower in front. Always messing up my shot. This was one of my top favorite NES Games. Still love it!

My first job ever was delivering the evening news on my haro master. It was great a paper route after school with no waking up early. Used this game as practice. Unfortunately after 2 years evening news became a regular morning paper and 430 am was no fun

I played Paperboy on my Nintendo NES using the standard NES controller and the NES Advantage, I when I was in high school from 2002 to 2003. One day, I want to beat the game with any NES controller accessory that I will get.

Paperboy 1 & 2 were ported to GameBoy and the arcade port of Paperboy was ported to PSP as a part of Midway Arcade Treasures.

Extra Extra read all about it Paperboy goes on a rampage. Windows smashed everywhere and lawn ornaments broken to pieces. By the way buy today's edition and get a %25 off coupon at Sears good on any Kenmore, Craftsman, Sony, or Clothing purchase. Also included is a list of Blockbuster Video and Hollywood Video's current releases for July 88. Coupon books included for both. A copy of the paper is only $1 what a steal.
Funny how I used to think whatever happens, newspaper delivery is a consistent job until it wasn't anymore. I used to push around 12000 pound bailer carts filled with misprints whistling this song lmao. Got to deliver the papers, cell phones pfff yeah ok lmao. Yes I had a bmx bike growing up, one was a custom made gift and the second one I found a frame and built it myself. Both of which got stolen during a neighborhood crime wave *shrug
