Frequent visitor. One of my favorite places in the world. Current water situation shows that one time rosy optimism about the local aquifer was grossly unwarranted. Critical depletion is inevitable for this one and others throughout the world. What takes eons to create can be exhausted in one person's lifetime.

There were very few people in California at the time. The Rose Parade in Pasadena was created in order to advertise to the rest of the country how ideal the weather was in the Winter in order to draw people to the State, using the newly-developed television as a tool. This has backfired badly. The population has exploded. Nobody ever considers the effects of population growth when they're flapping their gums about sustainability.

Judging by the cars in the second video, my guess is that this was made in the late '50's, around 1957-1958. Loved the movies, been a resident here for 3 and a half years, loving every minute. Ed & & &&

They just didn't know back then about the water source. Or, the developers just gave out false info to get people to buy.

Well, I suppose 70 years of tapping the aquifer qualifies as "long range dependability." Nice while it lasted, eh? Now what?

I bought 40 acres here 2 years ago, I drilled a well this year, found plenty of water !
The people who believe the Borrego water District that the water is running out are Blind...
it's like listening to the guy who robbed your house and stole money from your wallet ,
If the robber tells you not to waste your cash because it's gonna run out, will you believe him?
if he keeps robbing cash from your wallet every month, will you tell your neighbors not to spend their cash either?
basically, if you drill your own well or choose to connect to the water district, the water will still come from a well ! that's a fact !!!
So if i choose to drill a well and bypass the middleman (water district) and save money,
Why are People getting their panties in a bunch ?
because they have to pay for water like fools ?
    I'm not stupid , I drilled a well ! This is America !!!!
if you choose to pay a middleman for your water , that's your stupid choice !!! But me, I'm an American !!!

There are different kinds of freedoms, some freedom is without causing harm to others, and other freedoms come at the expense of someone or something else. I don't believe that kind of freedom is sustainable in the long run. When you look at the mesquite bosque in Borrego Valley and see more than 50%/60% dead (surveys also confirm this) you see that there is a finite amount of water available, and that the water table keeps dropping. As a community, we need to budget our water just like in managing money. You can spend more than you have, sure that's your freedom, but you go into debt, which is not sustainable in the long run. Folks here have to keep digging deeper wells, that's proof that there is more water going out, than is being replenished.

A guy robs your house and takes money from your wallet and he tells you to not waste your cash...then keeps robbing cash from your wallet. Got it.

To conclude that there's plenty of water in the aquifer just because you tap into it and there's still some left is the very height of stupidity.

They way this film treated the ancestors who cared takes this land for 10,000years or more is extremely disturbing. Showing a woman who was made to look stereotypically native either drunk or passed out /dead and then laughing at her was extremely distasteful especially with the thousands of Missing and MURDERED INDIGENOUS WOMEN AND GIRLS. Then mentioning the native peoples for a moment and following it up with a comment about a plaque showing where the first white person was born…that’s messed up.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts....Let's hope our self-centered dreams become less self-centered as we broaden our horizons, and our circles of compassion increasingly include all, instead of just those who look like us or are most close.

You know that the natives didn't want to share the bounty of the Earth and tried to exterminate WT, right? They raided YT settlements and murdered everybody they could find - men, women, children. You know this, right?
