Like the last fight, this episode shows what I love about reaction videos. Everyone lighting up when it was revealed both Shikamaru's IQ and how he captured Temari. I remember when I first watched this episode, I was blown away by this strategy. It was when Kishimoto was so great at building suspense and offering a pretty fantastic payoff.
Jokes aside, Shikamaru actually did plan out his entire life. He said how he wanted two kids, one daughter as the eldest and a son as the youngest and even talked about his retirement and marriage. I guess it just didn't work out since he's now the eight hokage instead of living the simple life he wanted.
btw shikamaruu knew that winning the contest doesn't necessarly makes you pass the exam or be promoted, so he just showed that he is smart for the next rank, and he was the only one to be promoted even x)
I'm still convinced that Shikamaru lied. He didn't run out of Chakra. At least it would have been enough to defeat Temari. But the Chunin Exams are not about winning your fight. They are about showing your abilities and impress the judges. Shikamaru is a one trick pony at this point. He only knows shadow posession. And he already showed that off. He also showed his incredible tactical skills. He doesn't want to fight and he already showed all his abilities. So there is no use in doing more fights. And that's why he gave up.
He complains multiple times in his own thoughts about his chakra running out. If all he wanted to do was showcase his abilities then he wouldn't have constantly worried about his chakra pool. It's shown fairly often that the shadow possession is chakra intensive and Shikamaru doesn't have a high pool. He had no reason to lie. He was clearly out of chakra hence him not even needing to perform a release sign for the possession to end. He didn't have the chakra to maintain it.
Aside from what Kemonngo said, I can see your point. I mean, go back to the preliminaries and Shikamaru was the one to ask about something along the lines of the win-loss ratio. He was told "you can lose but still get promoted" and that was good enough for him.

Right? Remember the days where the Water Dragon Bullet was the creme de la creme? Every fight had strategy, creativity and sheer tenacity. Nowadays it's about what kinda new broken Rasengan Naruto can pull out of his ass.

Pain is a great example of this), the problem is that the power level is so broken in the series that you have a class of Genin (Boruto) taking out Hokage levels villains. It basically makes 97% of the cast useless as none of them are main characters.
*Part 1 fights:* My shadow clones distracted Zabuza while I turned myself into a shuriken. Then one of the clones throws me towards Sasuke, he stacks it on top of another shuriken that he already had and throws them both. *Shippuden fights:* So anyways, I started blasting.
Shikamaru's fights are always legendary ! His fighting strategies are always brilliantly thought and he manages to show that the brain is the best weapon ! 🧠⚔✨ One of my favorite characters of all time 🔥⚡🙏
Not really, Boruto has some fights that are way better, Naruto and Naruto Shippuden has better villains, and that is it, Boruto surpasses Naruto in A LOT of stuff, but the enemies from Boruto aren't as cool as the Akatsuki, or Madara, or even Zabuza.

I love all the little details you notice after you see his strategy, like looking to the sky maybe for the suns angle, that his jacket is missing and that he angles Temari around the hole Naruto made
Not to mention that they confirmed that you don't HAVE to win in order to become Chuunin, that the whole thing was just to showcase abilities... a question that Shikamaru was the one who asked. In this one fight, he showed his skills, didn't care about becoming Chuunin, and accomplished his mission of capturing the target. He did what was needed and that was to capture everyone's attention, including the feudal lords that were watching at the time.
Love your mash ups, but here I think you left out the biggest part of his genius; the moment Temari realized he purposely drove her into that spot using his jacket (showing it wasnt just to try and catch her immediately using that) Aside from that, really enjoyed watching this again

when the discussion on which is the better series, naruto or MHA comes up, i will always pick naruto, not just because i do think it is a better series, but also because when it comes to characters, its not even a fair comparisson. you could, literaly pick ANY named character in naruto, and make an amazing series about that character. rock lee, the kid who has no powers, but who is able to surpass others using only his strong will, and desire to fight. choji, chubby kid who is always eating, and suffers bullying because that's the only thing he does, but, when needed, he is able to power up, and become extremely powerfull(also hot). shikamaru, the kid with good powers, but no desire to fight, all he wants is to spend his days sleeping and playing games. but when the situation arrives, using his unrivaled mind, he is able to outsmart any opponent in his way... sasuke is the kid who lost everything and is seeking revenge. sakura is the plain girl who is in love with the hot loner guy, and will do all she can to get him. gaara, the once cruel and sadistic warrior, who, after meeting a friend, decided to change his life, and, because his father, died, is forced to not only rule his failing country, but also change the perception of others around him. hinata the heir to a powerful clan, who is unable to live up to the expectations of others. neji, the former slave who now seeks revenge for his father who was sacrificed for the main family. ino, the bubbly girl who has the power to possess others, and that's how it goes for most characters. each and every one of them, could easily be the main character.
temari isnt that chick, she would probably survive, and like he said, he was running out of chakra, so it would be pain once he is forced to set her free.
@@marcosdheleno He could have killed her easily if he wanted by picking up the fallen kunai and slit her throat but he is obviously not the killing type and he didn't care either way because winning a match and winning on the battlefield are different and he showed how invaluable he is where it actually counts.
Episodes like this saddens me a bit, because quite a lot of shows will start small, with averagely-human strengths & abilities, so the fights involve tricks, cunning, well-timed executions of steps, and so on. But later in many shows' runs, the characters are too strong and the fights are more "who can create the bigger explosion".

Always bugs me that he didn't win, I can think of several ways for him to win. He could have taken a kunai out and thrown it so hers hit her fan then forced her to pick it up again while he picked up nothing then made her stab herself, picked up his own when hers was back behind her fan and stabbed her with it, could have picked up the kunai attached to his shirt that was on the ground and gotten her with that. So many ways to still win within his time limit. Spoiler: Ultimately it didn't matter since his strategy got him promoted to chunin anyway but I still wish he would have won. Although I guess it fits his "its all a pain" attitude and not wanting to hurt women.
This arc. This arc is whats wrong with Naruto Shippuden. We got such interesting fights and powers and ways to use them. And then suddenly is all about who makes the bigger or denser energy ball
Like Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Super. It was about martials arts and some wacky powers, now its just energy blasts and transformations. DBZ fell in the middle of the two.
To be fair He did Admit he couldn't win. She was stronger than him and she won. He just didn't have the stamina to keep up. If he did he would have? Maybe? Won? But even then she'd likely wear him down.
