The one thing I see so rarely mentioned about their chemistry and their interests is how... PEARL IS A HUGE FORGED WEAPONS FAN GIRL. SHE FIGHTS WITH SWORDS. She's intimately familiar with swordsmanship but also how she knows literally everything in Rose's lair is by name. She has literal collections of forged weaponry and the ones used for the rebellion were undoubtedly forged largely by Bismuth. She said she outfitted the whole Crystal Gem army, after all. So I could just easily imagine Pearl spending a lot of time with Bismuth and, when she decided to train as a knight, when she started getting more intimately familiar with the use of other weapons, I could see her and Bismuth spending a huge amount of time with each other just being huge fuckin nerds with their weaponry and armor. And it's almost CRIMINAL how that isn't brought up enough imo. XD But it was something that hit me a while ago when I went for a rewatch because Pearl and Bismuth are very flirty with each other in her first ep, especially when you look at concept art that explicitly notes their dialogue as flirty. :P But also, Pearl's excitement about going to the forge is adorable af and you definitely got the impression part of her weapons fangirling overlaps very neatly with Bismuth's interest in forging them.
Bro I have no idea how I didn't realize that before. Like I know the stuff on the surface and the reason why I wasn't as excited with the ship being semi-canon as other people was because I didn't quite get how they would bond. But like you bringing that up definitely makes it evident to me how cute it is

I feel like they’d be their own gems. Pearl’s whole character arc is her becoming her own person. Now that she finally is, I doubt she’d really want to fuse with someone for the rest of her life
They might share some fusion moments, maybe, but they’re both so independent that I think they’d be more happy being their own gems in each others company. Even one of the things bismuth likes the most about pearl is the way she’s coming into her own in their new world, making her own connections, the fact that pearl has her own life now, and bismuth will make her own life too, and they will be a part of each others worlds... because for humans marriage isn’t about becoming a single entity or a part of a set, its about formally announcing to each other that no matter where life takes them, they want to be connected, that they have each other to lean on, and that their heart is the home they can come back to.

When I saw Bismuth and Pearl being shipped like that... I wasn’t surprised, but I was SO happy with it, cause those two were so cute and their relationship would definitely echo their plot development ending. Pearl deserves a partner that sees her as the warrior she is, seeing her development and not treating her like a servant or a third wheel, like she is the bomb. And Bismuth having issues with coping with the present, adjusting, having someone who has done that helping them with her anxiety or discomfort is a great thing, plus with their long history together, they’d be able to have an interwoven connection that’d help their relationship grow.

And let's not forget you don't need to fuse for love, think of Amethyst and Steven. I'd imagine Lapis experience with fusion represents an abusive relationship so I'd say fusion isn't her thing. I used to love the idea of a Lapidot fusion but after some thinking I realized that it is not supposed to happen yet...or maybe ever. Some people may argue that they just need to work out their demons (Peri is supposed to figure out it's okay to fuse to represent friendship, Lapis needs to get though her trauma) but it's perfectly okay to leave them the way they are. There is no "fixing" ace/aro people, and it's okay to not want to be in a relationship.

I have 2 friends that are pan-romantic and asexual and I always here from people that "it's not real" or "why do you need a label for that" I'm like first of all who are you to invalidate someone like that and secondly they are perfectly fine labelling themselves that because it does happen and they are real and they are valid. I don't think garnet will be fused forever because it's been shown when ruby goes away that even though they complete each other and love each other forever they sometimes need some time alone. You can see that Pearl's trying to stifle a laugh though, and Bismuth looks more like she's trying not to make eye contact so as to avoid embarrassment.

This also messed Jasper up pretty bad and assuredly other gems in her court as well. Then later she actually gives up her life to create Steven, leaving Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl to grieve over her. This also left her child to protect her planet against Homeworld (which she started the war with in the first place!) and ended up completely traumatizing him with the ridiculous number of times he faced death fighting corrupted gems and the diamonds. In short, she pissed off the entire universe, gave all her problems to a 14 year old and then just straight up left.
She didn’t purposefully put trauma onto others and plus if the diamonds weren’t cold to her she would’ve felt that the diamonds would care if she was shattered, but because of how the diamonds treated her she felt like they wouldn’t care if she fake shattered herself.

Also for Peridot's shy and flirty-ness in the series: it's possible to have a platonic crush on someone, aka a strong desire to become good friends with someone, akin to how a crush is how you want to have a romantic relation with someone. It's called a squish.
Honestly I shipped amythest and pearl for such a long time it's hard to think of pearl and bismuth together, but honestly after this video I think I ship them, although I really wanted to see them fuse...
There's another moment in Bismuth's premiere episode that hints at Pearl and Bismuth's chemistry, right after the finish training on the beach, Bismuth asks Steven to come join them, Bismuth puts her arms around Garnet and Pearl. But the way Pearl's body is turned in towards Bismuth, and the way she blushes, it really does suggest that something could be there!
I think even Garnet ships it, she could have known EXACTLY how to throw the bouquet so that Bismuth would have caught it

And let's not forget you don't need to fuse for love, think of Amethyst and Steven. I'd imagine Lapis experience with fusion represents an abusive relationship so I'd say fusion isn't her thing. I used to love the idea of a Lapidot fusion but after some thinking I realized that it is not supposed to happen yet...or maybe ever. Some people may argue that they just need to work out their demons (Peri is supposed to figure out it's okay to fuse to represent friendship, Lapis needs to get though her trauma) but it's perfectly okay to leave them the way they are. There is no "fixing" ace/aro people, and it's okay to not want to be in a relationship.
I 100% agree with you. I have 2 friends that are pan-romantic and asexual and I always here from people that "it's not real" or "why do you need a label for that" I'm like first of all who are you to invalidate someone like that and secondly they are perfectly fine labelling themselves that because it does happen and they are real and they are valid. I don't think garnet will be fused forever because it's been shown when ruby goes away that even though they complete each other and love each other forever they sometimes need some time alone. And if that wasn't enough, she just had to fake her death leaving Yellow and Blue diamond to grieve for thousands of years. This also messed Jasper up pretty bad and assuredly other gems in her court as well. Then later she actually gives up her life to create Steven, leaving Garnet, Amethyst and Pearl to grieve over her. This also left her child to protect her planet against Homeworld (which she started the war with in the first place!) and ended up completely traumatizing him with the ridiculous number of times he faced death fighting corrupted gems and the diamonds.
In short, she pissed off the entire universe, gave all her problems to a 14 year old and then just straight up left.

She didn’t purposefully put trauma onto others and plus if the diamonds weren’t cold to her she would’ve felt that the diamonds would care if she was shattered, but because of how the diamonds treated her she felt like they wouldn’t care if she fake shattered herself.

There's another moment in Bismuth's premiere episode that hints at Pearl and Bismuth's chemistry, right after the finish training on the beach, Bismuth asks Steven to come join them, Bismuth puts her arms around Garnet and Pearl. But the way Pearl's body is turned in towards Bismuth, and the way she blushes, it really does suggest that something could be there!
