Cricut Project File for shingles: design.cricut.com/landing/project-detail/654270df4e111bea3cbfd0d8 I have a new website! Same url www.blackmagiccraft.ca but completely refreshed with all the Essential Equipment links updated! Check it out.
Would you be willing to upload an SVG for the roof shingles? I'm new to Cricut, but I think there might be something wrong with the project file preventing me from importing it.
@@ZacharyHubbs I was having some trouble as well, I right clicked and saved image on the link and then imported it into cricut from there and that worked for me.
Well to be fair..... Using a Cricket machine to make stuff like this is something that has been going on since the company went to the design space concept.. so many years at this point ....
Just a heads up - the cricut is pretty tightly tied to the online tools you need to run it, so you're dependent on continuing support from the company just to use it. When they shut that down, your cricut becomes a door stop. Silhouette cutters come with more future proof, offline software, and even have some open source options.
@@saltfreegamerseconding this, I bought a silhouette almost 10 years ago and have never needed to do anything special beyond replacing old/worn out blades and un-sticky sheets. Since it's old it's super noisy but still works great!
Airbrush tip: a quick way to mask off flat, straight areas like that roof section is to hold a strip of card (like a business card) against it with one hand, and spray with the other. It won't be as crisp as tape or masking putty, but it's way faster and easier.
Something else that works REALLY well for thin strips of wood texture, is the flat sections of styrofoam clamshell food takeout containers. I’ve used those for some of my builds cuz I have good access to them from working in a restaurant and snag some that get thrown away cuz they fall on the floor or whatever. They take wood grain texturing very well!
Those little Christmas houses are really nice to use too just make them look extra dark & gloomy and you have new scenery, you can find lots for cheap at thrift stores especially Christian ones
Yeah my party basically doomed this goblin tribe so ended up taking them in on their land but I got this Christmas bar for like 4 dollars on sale and painted the snow lime green like slime and it became the goblins home on our table
Could be total coincidence that they both found these but I saw this video in my feed and totally expected this to be a shoutout to storycraft society. Nothing wrong with liking both though, Jeremy does take this one to the next level!
The problem with their build was, in my opinion at least, that they added way too much stuff. To the point that they might as well had started with a block of xps foam. When picking a foundation to work off from, you do so to cut down in build time. However their builds still took quite some time.
Oooh! . . .No flashing on the roof! It's gonna leak! (You're a contractor/builder. You know what I mean. LOL!) AWESOME BUILD!! Bird houses!! Who'd'a thunk? Thank you for showing your secrets. It's always fun to watch.
I’ve been watching for years, and this video does an incredible job of showing how your craft has evolved, using all the various techniques you’ve picked up. Stunning work!
I am always hesitant to make these kinds of comments b/c I know you work hard on *every* build and video... BUT, THIS RIGHT HERE is the kind of video I started watching you for and I find these absolutely inspiring. SO cool Jeremy!
This DUDE! I forgot about this channel! I used to watch all the vids even though I don’t do this kind of crafting at all. He’s still at it years later, and it’s still AMAZING! Keep it up, bro!
You just made my day!! I have been looking into ways to cheaply n quickly make good looking buildings for my D&D games. Excuse me while I make good use of all the cereal and soda boxes in my house!! ❤🎉❤🎉
i have seen so many medieval building crafting videos by now, that i often throw them on the second monitor and barely pay attention to them. but THIS one had a few really cool new ideas in it. great video!
Oh man - those textured strips are such a brilliant idea. This is the only thing I was missing to finally get to making some Mordheim scenery. Thanks a bunch brother! Fantastic video!
I have been watching your work for, I don't know how long, this is a great project that pulls in so much of what I have seen you evolve, the rolling pin in the caulking on card, just brilliant! Thank you for all your inspiration! I am clearing space to have a crack at this as I finished watching :-)
I just got suggested your channel and all I can say is, WOW! 😮 This tutorial is fantastic! full of useful tips and the end result is gorgeous 😍 I've now subscribed and can't wait to see what else you've made.
This looks really great. I'm loving how those pastels add just the right amount of grunge. Not too much to look dirty, but just enough to add depth and texture
As always, amazing. Side note... this is a GREAT idea for making Halloween, winter, Spring villages. Low expense with high quality results, and if they get damages, you don't have to just toss them out. Being that they are not ceramic, repair would be fairly easy, Thank you!
I used a bunch of these for Frostgrave terrain. I didn't join them together, just made them as individual buildings. Jeremy's are much more elaborate than the ones I did (cardboard for trim on all corners, shingles were strips of card cut with scissors and glued to the roof) Works great for Frostgrave. Nice work Jeremy!
I have seen the cheap bird houses being used for ttrp terrain, but in the video that I saw they used so much stuff to cover and alter the house that they could have used a xps block as base as well. In your build you really lean into the fact that the bird housed have the right shape and only add what is neccesary. The other channel didn’t inspire me, but you really did. Great work! And loads of accessable techniques.
This is so cool! A tip I got from life-size DIY: When you're airbrushing the roof/wall line (red and white base coats at around 10:44) - grab a sheet of cardboard or I like a paint scraper, and cover the wall to the edge while spraying the roof (you see a lot of people doing paint spraying on actual houses using this method, with giant bits of cardboard or sheets of material
The caulking wrap arounds is GENIUS. I was on the fence about them for tiles, and haven't picked up any rollers yet, but seeing this has completely changed my mind. Gonna grab some of both tomorrow, for sure.
I had the same idea to use cheap dollar store birdhouses just last week, and bought some, thinking I'd make a goofy fantasy town diorama with tiny houses with big roofs. But then you glued them together and now I can't believe i didn't think of that. Great vid!
You just blew my mind. I've been searching the net for pre-made 0-scale buildings to create Xavier's school for Marvel Crisis Protocol, and I never thought to just build it. Thanks bro!
Recently, I've really started to hate your content. But this video... I don't know what changed. Don't know what advice, or response, or whatever I could even begin to give. But this video felt like a breath of fresh air.
Hi Jeremy! Ive been watching your videos for a good 3-4 years now, and I just want to let you know that 1: I love your content! 2: I love how you show that amazing results can be made out of cheap materials
This was an awesome video. Kind of feels like a throwback to the old BMC tutorial videos for D&D crafting. Also, much like old BMC videos, now I want to go buy new expenisve tools. Thank you for your awesome content.
Haven't watched your content in a number of years (life and all that), so I wanted to say that I'm really impressed with how far your channel has come!
I've played with this idea for a while, but using the oscillating multi-tool- that's the one thing I never thought to try. Glad to pick a new "hobby hack"! Thanks
YYAAAYY!! You made a house. Always been my absolute favorite things to watch you make, plus all these really great extra tips. Especially the brickwork... I mean that was the best ever! Thanks for sharing that with us.
I really enjoyed watching you do this… videoing all the steps was a teaching technique for me personally…. I’ve made many small scale miniature items, houses, boats etc. and I failed to record the steps…in my defense, I was just starting out…and now I see the value…thanks…and I’ll definitely keep watching to see what you make in the future❤️
Wife's cricket; mine now! For roofs, I've used those decorative scissors cutting strips & looks just like your roofs. A certain scissor gives a rough cut that adds a nice worn look to the roof. Thanks for another great build and video!
Hey Jeremy, when I´m done building and furnishing my house i will come back to our hobby and annoy you all the time😋. Finally a real good new video. Keep up the good work buddy.
So many good techniques in this one. The flexible strips of brickwork is going to be really useful and so easily adapted by using different rollers. The shingles do look good, if maybe a little too uniform? I might have tried off-setting a few in the template before sending to cut, just to get some random variations in shingle placement. I don't know how the cricut works though, maybe it needs things to be neatly aligned.
Great work! We have those shonky little birdhouses here in the UK. Your arrangement of them made me think of the Whateley's home from H.P. Lovecraft's 'The Dunwich Horror'. Very cool indeed. 👍👍👍
Great video as always. Two possible tips for you. If you have problems with rattle can primer, you can use a matt finish over that first and then should have no problems with washes. Second, use pieces of paper to mask off areas you don't want paint on. Either hold it or tape it.
This is outstanding! Brings me back to my table top Warhammer And D&D days in college. LOL, I so wish I still had all of my miniatures, books and scenery. Its my first time watching your channel and you gained a sub!

...not sure how to get the feet
Try flipping your mat over and peel it from your project, instead of pulling your cut material from the mat 😁
To avoid overspray, use a paper card (or whatever is handy) to block what you don't want to get paint on while airbrushing.
This guy. Years in, he's still changing the game, innovating all the time. Now everyone's running out getting CriCuts! Love it.

Thank you for this tip as I've been itching to get a Cricut. Will get a silhouette cutter instead
I work at Michaels and I've been eyeing our birdhouses and cardboard houses thinking the same thing. Love it.
Whenever I go to Michaels and see another single dude looking at things like that I know he's making terrain lol
Nice
Still a lot of work for something my players' wizard will end up burning down, anyway.
A tad trigger-happy with the fireballs, you see.

yup my thought exactly.
