I know this is an older post but I just wanna say me and my sons are gonna be sad you’re not gonna be making videos anymore. Thanks for all the inspiration you’ve given us over the years. Be well
Thank you for posting content that isn't about that one company we won't mention. It's nice to see more and more content creators promote all of the other sources for our hobby.
@Hugo von Payns I was referring to Games Workshop. So many videos anymore promoting that company and the other independent creators barely get any notice. It's nice to see someone who has a RUclips platform sharing other hobby products other than just "gw fanboy" content. 👍
@@djhollowman9567 thats right. To be honest, I never played Warhammer, but I love the miniatures and especially painting them. Im kind of preschoolteacher and this is the perfect hobby to calm down
@@travis8106 That is a long discussion. But to try to summarize, the way the company is run, the way they treat FLGS owners, the way they treat the actual player base, the rules bloat, the fact that your army is good for 2 months during each edition, and that's just a few of the things I've taken issue with. They won't change until they are motivated to. And that won't happen unless people vote with their wallets and their clicks.
I am surprised how well FDM can now print small. I was always told I need resin to do 10 mm buildings. One of my first FDM prints was an N-Gauge (Train) house. I was shocked at how well it came out. Due to the orientation on the build plate, the layer lines were very fine but looked like siding and roof tiles. If I broke it apart and printed flat with ironing on I probably could have eliminated them but I like the siding.
The technology is continually getting better and new methods are being learned. When people say FDM doesn't look good or cannot print good detail it is because they either have old information or that they don't really know what they are talking about. Correct information just takes time to filter down from the people who have the know-how. :)
I did a 10mm Frostgrave table using Arkenfel terrain and it worked out really well, although printed it myself. Since FG is 3ft x 3ft at 30mm,a full-fledged board that's 1ft x 1ft is very fun.
I print buildings from Printable Scenery via FDM at 15mm (60%) and it looks fantastic. I'm currently printing their King & Country Norman range. Its important to print at .15 layer height, which is impractical for 28mm buildings, and the lines nearly disappear.
I checked out some Etsy shops about a month ago after I was looking for some epic proxy's and warmaster minis. Since then I've found some amazing looking stuff for Ttrpg. I'm weighing up buying both a tiamat mini and huge terrasque proxy against sleeping in the shed for a month after the wife kicks off when they turn up. Loads of UK based sellers that are practically giving away stuff that would cost an absolute fortune buying from the big companies
Dark Realms stuff is awesome. Been designing and printing 15mm buildings out and found that the cheap pla isn't worth the hassle. Spend a bit more for some better quality stuff.
Big fan of Cromarty Forge- there are a range of round towers too so you don’t have to do square castles, as well as all the houses, inns, towers etc you’d get in a town
I 3D printed all my adeptus titanicus terrain using my Ender 3 Pro. I also started printing houses for mordheim. If you get your machine dialled in, you can get great results with FDM
Etsy is really good. I’ve bought a couple of 10mm scale pig pens and cattle bowers with water troughs, to make some medieval looking farmstead terrain pieces for Warmaster. I got some 10mm chickens and pigs from Pendraken as scatter detail.
Yes-there is so much more than the "Company That Shall Not Be Named" We print and paint tons of terrain on our channel and never use them. Liked and Subscribed :)
Hi Luke- Following on from your mini scale video I was inspired to scale down LOTR / Battle of five Armies to 10mm and I used Etsy for the Terrain. £60 for a Bree town type set up. I contacted a UK based guy and asked him to scale down " City of Tarok" 28mm buildings. He obliged and he now has these available in 10mm resin. They are solid and fantastic prints even down to the fret work windows. Thank you for your inspiring videos on this subject - Nice that you've revisited this subject.
I've heard you can get rid of layer lines and stringing by putting them in an air tight container with acetone for a few hours (not touching the acetone). The fumes gently desolve them away. Never got the chance to try it but if it works, it's hands-off and cuts out sanding that's sometimes necessary
Hahahaha this video makes me so so happy, you can't imagine dude. Especially after the last video i went for a deep search for good 10mm Stl files and cromarty forge just blew me away:))) already looking forward to their new stuff. Awesome video btw Cheers
I buy a lot off Etsy. It works great if you want 3D printed stuff, you have time to wait, and you don’t want to do the printing. I’ve settled into printing models that I want several of and getting models from Etsy that I only want one. Pro tip, though. Make sure the seller has an image of a print in their listing… quality varies a bit. And buy 1-2 models to see how a seller is, and if you’re happy, keep going back!
I have purchased a few battletech scale items from Mighty Minis UK in the last year and the quality is excellent and the service top notch. Really nice company to deal with.
Battlescale make great resin buildings.. reasonably priced too. I tend to play historics more but many would fit for fantasy. I've been downscaling historic skirmish games for a while now - and 10mm is that sweet spot for me. Also - from one of your previous videos, you are planning to base on 1p's - i'd strongly recommend sabot bases if they are more than single-character games, sabotag3d do some decent quality sabot bases in resin.
I have a lot of dark realms stuff, printing buildings for 28mm on fdm printers, but never think of shrink it to 10mm… thanks for the idea, will print them on resin asap 😅
perhaps printing at 20 micrometer instead of 50-70 would help you scale down the model detail. Although that would only be for resin. I wouldn't go below 70 for fdm.
I sometimes use shapeways to buy miniatures in both 28mm and 6mm... especially rare WW2 tanks minor nations used and i'm sure various companies on there will also print scenery but, as of yet, its not something I have searched for. When I finish my 6mm NetEpic Chaos Army i'll be looking for terrain that it and my Imperial Fists will fight over though.
I just smear on "No more Gaps"... its like toothpaste in consistency and sets like plastic..works fantastically to strengthen models and get rid of layer lines. I use this a lot and it's great to sand if you need to as well... best thing; it's super cheap to buy :)
Etsy in general is as good as any other storefront. Read the reviews and know your stuff and it tends to go well. Not been disappointed with anything I've gotten on there, hobby or otherwise. Shipping times tend to depend more on the sellers tho, most I've had have delivered in a week or two, except for a big thing I got from Russia which took about a month, but thats down to customs, like most other imports. If all else fails, pay with paypal, and most of the time Etsy side with the buyer in disputes if there's actually anything wrong with the product. Kinda sucks for the sellers tho.
I really prefer FDM for terrain but so much is optimized or designed with resin in mind. I just don't want to be too precious with terrain and be able to sling it around. At that scale I feel like even more so. And a 10mm dense Mordheim table sounds amazing
One thing i'd like to point out about etsy: there are ALOT of copies of some of the same models on offer from different sellers; Not like aliexpress levels, but enough that they can end up being easy to find. whether or not that's a positive or negative issue, i'll leave to you.
I've been thinking of doing some 6mm terrain but since seeing this I've been wondering what would actually be better off being hand-made instead of printed/purchased, that isn't just the usual roads/hills/plantlife? Are there any artificial features that'd be cheap and easy to do? Including sci-fi and fantasy stuff for sure.
it seems hard to give away free stuff 😂 Now I love this stuff and that you’re going small scales ,love the small scales , hence I design terrain for that scale. I’d like to give you a set to try ? Would that be cool ?
Great video I'm not into gaming anymore it was like in my early twenties I quite role playing games but I do love to paint stuff so I will give all these folks a look thanks. 🙂Thomas over at The Model Hobbyist
Hey Luke I have a question. In the past I have ordered lots of product like the base ready stuff. But everywhere I look it seems it’s all sold out. Have you stopped or is it just temporary? Regards Michel
USE WITH CAUTION Etsy is great for printing, you can even get the stl files. Unfortunately there are a lot of people abusing the industry, Loot for example don't have a merchant tear, at all ,yet you can buy Loot files and products. My guess is very few would have the permission to sell so the creator gets nothing slowly killing off the industry. If you care ask the see the merchant licence for the creator before purchasing.
I wouldn't really say this is a "cheap wargaming terrain" tip. "Just buy them" is not the cheap option lol. It's the easy option. Video should be "easiest wargame terrain"
@@GeekGamingScenics lol what? You're posting a RUclips video for public consumption. I'd love to see what they look like when you scale them up to "Warhammer" scale (somewhere around 1:52?).
I ordered custom embroided hats off Etsy, quality and price was amazing
Beautiful stuff for the cost. I also like the idea of being able to get it painted up faster. Thanks for exploring this!
Presumably you can hit the finished item with some v fine sandpaper to knock off the build lines.
And Dragon Trappers Lodge is including One Page Rules for their armies as well in December
I spend so much money on Etsy. Dungeon Artifacts are an amazing store. Each order the print quality gets better
Mate! You’re epic. I wish you were in Australia so I could meet you!!!!!
you'll need the smallest nozzle then its adjusting flow rates etc for FDM

A city siege would be kinda fun in 10mm. Just imagine a big city having to take streets, and with plazas and parks being places for big fights
Perfect timing, I'm in dire need of some 6mm terrain. And 10mm lotr :D
Would a couple of coats of Halford's Filler Primer help with smoothing out the lines prior to painting? Never used it, but heard good things.
