22,000 fireworks light up Tokyo’s night sky in 40th year celebration

Intermittent showers failed to dampen the enthusiasm of the estimated 750,000 spectators who flocked to eastern Tokyo to marvel at the fireworks spectacle above the Sumidagawa river on July 29.
This year's Sumidagawa Fireworks Festival marked its landmark 40th anniversary with about 22,000 pyrotechnics lighting up the night sky, about 2,000 more than an ordinary year.
