    27:06 -
Before the proclamation of the independence of Malaya was made, on 30 August 1957 at 12.00 midnight at Padang Kelab Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, a ceremony was held to bring down the Union Jack flag as the British national anthem signaled the end of British colonialism in Malaya; The flag of the Federation of Malaya was raised alternately by members of the Malayan Navy.
    More Info :
    • The Independence of the Federation of Malaya was officially declared at precisely 9.30am on 31 August 1957. The Independence Proclamation Ceremony took place at the Merdeka Stadium with the witness of over 20,000 people including Malay Kings, special guests from abroad, members of the Federal Government cabinet and common people.
At this historic ceremony, the representative of Queen Elizabeth II, the Duke of Gloucester handed over the Constitution to the Prime Minister, marking the end of British patronage over Malaya ( a.k.a Federation of Malay Land / Persekutuan Tanah Melayu ).
[ The first declaration of independence of the Federation of Malaya was made in Padang Bandar Hilir, Malacca on February 20, 1956 ].

I've read lots of feedback about the filling in the bun like brioche. Inside the bun is what known as 'kaya', it's a curd made from egg yolk, coconut cream and palm sugar, it's very sweet and typically used as a spread for sliced bread toasts and also in some local traditional desserts.

Kaya is short for Seri Kaya a type of coconut custard jam made by reducing egg yolks and coconut milk with sugar flavored with Pandan . Its an aromatic herb that has a jasmine-like scent its sort of south east Asian vanilla. The juice of the green blade of Pandan leaves is extracted its always green in color. Depending on the type of sugar used it can also have different taste. I prefer Kaya using the local dark brown palm sugar called "Gula Melaka" which makes the Kaya brown in color, using plain white sugar will give it a more green color (color of pandan juice).

FYI, this is a confusing statement. Local food IS Malaysian food, since we are all Malaysians here.
Hence local food is foods made by Malays, Chinese, Indians, Sabahans, Sarawakians and the other indigenous tribes of Malaysia.
Don't be confused with regards to Malaysians (citizens), and the Malays (largest ethnic group in Malaysia).
Anyways, enjoy the rest of your trip guys!
