- In this video, we installed the Bilstein 6112 front leveling kit on our 4Runner project. We show you the proper assembly and installation of this kit. This setup is beefy and capable of handling added weight up front and will take abuse for longer. With a 2.5" shock housing and adjustable height, it is a great option to lift the front of your 4Runner. Below is a link to this kit and the Maxtrac leveling kit we installed last. wonder if you did a re-installation at 3 and 1 and see how it look? I too don't have added weight, so when I buy pre-assembled and set, I know exactly what to tell you to set it at

Hey im looking at either this setup here with the 5160 and icon springs in the back or the icon stage 1 kit you guys have in your other video. Based on your experience, which one would you recommend and why? thanks guys
Well done! If you are installing as to not increase lift but only to accommodate increased front end weight form bumper and winch, do you need to install and other supporting mods? What spring would you use? At what lift increase do you need to start installing diff drop spacers, etc?
The 6112s even at the lowest setting and with added weight will lift the front approx. 1.5". I'm not sure what the best option would be for added weight but staying stock height. Most aftermarket springs require new shocks as well. If you wanna go that route, OME has good springs for added weight. As far as diff drop goes, I think anything below 3" of lift will be okay with no diff drop.

Will a better front suspension like this help with the forward lean get when breaking? Any advice would be appreciated. Love the channel!
Yes, it will help. The factory suspension is too soft up front.
I removed the two bolts securing the ball joint to the lower A-arm, then loosened the camber securing bolts to allow removal of the front shock and spring assembly. It was much easier.
Yeah, you can do it that way as well. Whatever you find easier. I like doing it the way we did in the video.
I’m just starting to learn here. I purchased a 2023 TRD ORP white like you have. I want to level it up and thought with your previous video you did just that with the Maxtrac. Now you are doing this kit. What’s the difference?
We are constantly switching parts out for content to help our customers. But, to answer your question, If you're looking to level your 4Runner these are both great options. It all depends on what you're trying to do with your 4Runner. The spacers are great if you're on a budget and just plan to drive on the road. Not really the best for offroading situations. The also might not have the best ride quality and they're not adjustable. The Bilstein 6112 is a full shock and spring replacement. So obviously the ride quality will be better. The shock body is bigger than oem so it will take more abuse and last longer. And they're adjustable so you can get it sitting just how you want. This is also nice for people that plan on adding extra weight to the front because you can adjust for that. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the clarification! I will be ordering the Maxtrac from your website, but have one last question. I know this is a 2.5” leveling kit and it comes with the 1” drop for the arms going to the front tire. Is the 1” drop enough to not put everything in tension? I do not plan on going off road much, just doing it for the level look. I do a lot of driving, so I don’t want to shorten the life span of the front end components. Thanks again!

Thank you for this video. If I go with this to level my 2021 trd off road premium, do I need anything in the rear? Do I need to purchase UCA's or anything else?
If you are looking to just level out the front then you won't need anything else besides the 6612s and a front end alignment.
i have a bilstein 5100 setup with 1.5 inch lift in the front, 0 in the back.. it rides rough!

Thanks for the video. I have a 2001 Toyota Sequoia SR5 and upgraded the wells from the 16 to 17, and now the front tires are close to the fenders. I would like to put the 6112 in this car if they will fit. Would you recommend this option?
6112s are a great option. You can also go with 5100s and some 2884 OME springs.

It's been awhile since we installed this but looking back at the video I would say probably 3/4" to 1"
Thanks for the video. Will 2 inch lift in the front and probably 1 inch in the rear on 2011 4runner require longer sway bar links? Can't find definitive info. Shock guides and videos are not talking about it. If yes, how much longer should I extend them assuming I buy adjustable links? How do we know if they are in the correct angle/length? Thanks
After you do your lift, you want your sway bars to be sitting level. If you buy adjustable ones just turn them so the sway bar is sitting level.

Also being that I have a Pro what leveling kit could i use to get roughly 1.5 inches ?
If you are looking to only go up 1.5" then I would suggest something that is adjustable. Most spacer style leveling kits are 2" +. The BIlstein 6112 kit claims to give you 1.5" of lift up front on the lowest setting but that is with added weight, like a bumper and winch. So it's probably closer to 2" without any added weight.
Will these Bilstein 6112 fit a 2023 4Runner TRD OFF ROAD with KDSS? Do you need a KDSS spacer?
Yes, they will fit. Sometimes when you lift a 4Runner with KDSS it will lean to one side, The KDSS spacer is to correct that and allow the sway bar to work properly.
Can you still get an alignment when you do this leveling kit ?
Yes and you should!

2 inch spacer or a coil that is 2 inches higher than factory OEM

Hey Nate, diff drop is not necessary. More of a personal preference

At the time of this video, yes.
What if I re-used the same cotter pins?
You can if they're in decent shape and not ready to break from bending back and forth.
how much more down travel dores the 6112 give over stock?
None.
Are these shocks so you can add 33’ tires to your rig?
Yes, you can fit 33s or 285s with this set up.

@@allenzhu3726 yes unfortunately the kdss and xreas is tricky when it comes to lift kits. And we are currently running a 265/70 geolander m/t on the stock wheels
Is there a brand or set up where you don’t have to mess with clip settings and it’s just leveled after install?
Most aftermarket set ups are adjustable with either a clip that you put in different grooves or a ring that you tighten down to lift it more. If you want something that you can just bolt on to your oem suspension with no adjusting needed then I'd go with a spacer leveling kit.

Is the rear suspension still stock?
Yes, the rear was stock at this point
In the Maxtrac video you said that the diff drop was necessary, but not in this situation. What’s the difference? Seems like each method would still affect the geometry in the axles.
Hey Justin, If I'm being honest the diff drop is really not that necessary for a lift kit up to 3". It doesn't change the angle that much to seem justifiable. Some people just feel better by doing it, more of a personal opinion. Our good friend Kai did a in depth video explaining this topic if you'd like to watch it. Why you did not replace the UCA?
Not really necessary. This setup is not staying on. We are constantly switching parts to create new content. We will eventually do a uca install video.
Oh ok. Which UCA will you recommend for this setup? Im planning to install this to my 4runner

I noticed on the passenger side that you put the clip in wrong. You may want to check to make sure it hasn’t fallen out. Just looking out
Please elaborate. Maybe your are thinking that because the video clip stopped before the clip was fully in the 2nd groove.
what is the best leveling kit for KDSS?

I have a question Do you guys know how to get rid of that cruise control auto braking on the 2022 TRD Pro?, mine is highly vexxing it will slam hard on the brakes in cruise control with someone in the opposite lanes with their turn signal on, hell one vehicle had already turned and it slammed hard on the brakes. I just want plain cruise control where I still pay attention and control the vehicle not the computers
I'm not really sure what to do there. We've never even used the cruise control on our 4Runner since getting it.
try pushing the cruise control button for a couple of seconds you’ll see what i mean.

why oh why don't they just loosen the 2 LCA to frame nuts, 19mm, then remove the 2 steering knuckle to ball joint 19mm bolts , lower shock bolt 19mm, and the 3 nuts on the top shock mount, lower the LCA and out she comes. so ridiculous to remove all that other stuff, no need..
*And setting the circlips at 4D/2P would get you 2" on the old 6 machined groves 6112, it will not get you 2 " on the 11 machined groove 6112. 6D4P min will be needed for the 11 groove IRL on a stock rig. something to watch for
dont forget to mention the indexing with the top hat and the lower shock bolt. alignment during assembly prior to install. And dont torque the LCA to frame or shock lower mounting bolt until normal truck weight is on it (post lift)
I know it can be done that way. I just do it this way so I don't have to mess with the alignment bolts on the LCA. I've done it so many times now that I can have both shock assemblies out in like 15 mins.
I thought I mentioned in this video about aligning the top hat with the bottom shock bolt. Might have been another video.

@@yotaxpedition you bet, me too. as far as Time goes. I mark the alignment washers and loosen the nuts only to be finger tight , I use a HD ratchet strap in the drilled hole in the LCA bottom to pull the LCA down and away from the lower shock bolt, its too easy, safe, and fast. I didn't want to sound like it was the only way , 99% of the time the vehicle is getting ride height altered so an alignment is in order anyway.
@@86309 yeah regardless of the way it's done the vehicle should get an alignment done. We have lift kits going on and off so much for content stuff that we haven't gotten an alignment done. All of the work we do is strictly for content and helping the customer. It just so happens that we get to build a nice 4Runner along the way.
No wonder why 4 runner lights suck.
