    The anecdote about Hegel and Schopenhauer is a little unfactual. Schopenhauer of course knew that more people would go to Hegel's lectures, he was very aware of his immense fame, and it was never his attention to try to detract attendees. Schopenhauer merely did it out of principle, which is very Schopenhauerian. Also, I imagine he liked the thought of teaching to so few people.
