Outstanding presentation! I was one of earliest visitors to the park when it opened as a youngster. My sisters worked there growing up. One of my sisters was in charge of gifts and souvenirs while attending college. Think younger done an outstanding job of showing the park in its current state and makes me so happy ! Thanks so much! I used to go all the time as a teenager, and seeing you go with your kid all over the country is certainly creating memories of a lifetime man. We really do have a great park. Social media says otherwise but you know social media; try to be as negative as possible and make things seem worse than what they really are.
Ninja is one of my favorite rides! Ive been riding and loving that since it opened in 1989!
American Thunder is actually the newest wooden coaster; built in 2008.

We did St Louis back around 2004 and my thoughts were the same.. very underrated... even before all of the decent additions over the last 20 years. I feel bad the place kind of gets shafted... I'd love to see The Boss get RMC'ed or Screaming Eagle get Titan Tracked. Imagie that thing smooth and flying through the trees at full speed.

      @natecook1661 3 месяца назад +1

I remember it getting retracked in the nineties (I think) and it absolutely flew for at least a few years after that. That's around the time they went in and banked the 90 and 180 degree turns in an effort to dampen the lateral g's a bit. Was quite wild there for a while.

I worked there when i was younger, my worst day was being at the icy stand IN THE MIDDLE of the thunder river que. It was over 100 degrees and this old couple both nearly fainted. I gave them each an icy to use as a cooling method cuz thats all i had. I had no radio to call anyone, some people standing in line had to go get help. This was 1997 or so. Lines were everywhere for everything back then. Its been years since ive stepped foot back there, but am not surprised its not as crowded. My older sister was a part of upper upper management for yrs before she left the company. Once it was under new leadership there was much turnover and it wasnt a great place for a few yrs.

I wish I could’ve joined you on this visit, to fill you in on a lot of the history surrounding this park. To me it makes it a lot more interesting when you know why things are the way they are.
First off, this is the 3rd and final park built BY the Six Flags corporation and has continuously been run by SF its entire history. The other 2 are Texas and Georgia. All other SF parks were built by someone else and acquired over the years.
The Screamin’ Eagle was the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in the world when it opened in 1976. Lore has it that it got its name from the way it “screams” as it goes around corners. You’re not wrong about it being the best coaster in the park. It’s a hidden gem.
The park has an overarching theme of the 1904 Worlds Fair that was held in St. Louis. Colossus (Ferris wheel), the Tommy G. Robinson (train), the wisteria arbors, and First Cone (where you had the delicious waffle cone ice cream) are all nods to that history. The ice cream waffle cone was invented at the 1904 Worlds Fair when the ice cream vendor ran out of dishes on a hot day, and asked the waffle vendor next to him if he could serve ice cream in his waffles. Hence “First Cone”. There’s also a mural of Festival Hall from the Worlds Fair in this area of the park.
River King Mine Train was the park’s first coaster, and used to have 2 different tracks. One track was eventually sold off to Silver Dollar City/Dollywood in Pigeon Forge. River King also holds the title of being the very first stand-up roller coaster after it was converted in the 1980’s. It was a short-lived experiment after a rider died being flung from the restraints.
Ninja was actually purchased from a Worlds Fair and brought here from somewhere in Canada, I believe.
American Thunder started its life as Evel Knievel, but that name was dropped after a few years. It’s probably my favorite ride in the park because it packs a lot of punch and zip in such a small coaster. Once you crest that first lift hill, it goes and never stops! Funny that you said it looks old, because it’s not! It’s newer than the Boss! 😆😃
The Boss is so named not because of its size and length, but rather because of its theming around a Harley Davidson motorcycle. It used to pack a lot more punch, but they took out the 2nd helix at the end a few years ago that put out a lot of g-forces, and have also purposely slowed it down in a few places - likely to reduce wear on the structure. That queue line used to go all the way past the entrance when it opened, if you can believe that. Boss is also in the Guinness Book when a guy rode it every day non-stop for several months. Can you imagine?! The times I saw him on it, he was reading a book and had bed pillows surrounding him to cushion the roughness!
Re: Ride ops - This park has always had a history of running 2 train cars on all coasters, even on dead days. More parks should adopt this model.
Thanks for stopping by our little park and for your positive review.
It is a beautiful park setting in the rolling Ozark hills, and is a highly underrated park as we are no longer a vacation destination city. We’re a regional destination and park now. No one ever says, “Hey, kids! Should we go to LA, Seattle, New York City, or St. Louis for vacation this year?!”

My hometown park. It's got plenty of history, and seen too much tragedy. Screaming Eagle (1975) was at the time the tallest / fastest coaster. The lines used to routinely be 3 - 4 hours, and is still my favorite ride in the park. The amphitheater has hosted so many great artist. I saw REO Speedwagon, Oak Ridge Boys, and so many others at the park.
They used to have a sky car to move people from one end of the park to the other. On July 26 1978 a support beam failed and one of the cars crashed to the ground. There is still one of the stations which has been converted into a gift shop / arcade. In 1984 a woman was flung from the Rail Blazer a new stand up coaster.

Batman, screaming eagle, pandemonium, American thunder and the freeze are the good ones. There’s also a lot of good non coasters there like the catwomans whip, the joker, and thunder river. Also you missed the Rookie racer which is a coaster more for younger crowd but not like a kid coaster. Super smooth.
And I’ve been a few times in the past couple weeks. It’s not packed like before but certainly still lines. You just went at a weird time. It’s fright fest now and they are busy again. Good timing honestly for you.

I haven’t been in almost seven years. Glad to see the Ninja hasn’t changed 😂
How is it still operating??? Worst headache I’ve ever experienced from a roller coaster.
I need to revisit Screamin Eagle. I was very underwhelmed by it the couple times I rode it.

I’m one of the ones that hate the boss. I was “one and done”. It beat the shit out of me. Literally had bruises on my side. Been going there since I was a kid. Love the rest of the park.

Park used to have tons of people years (maybe decades) ago & has been going downhill for a long time now. Park is maintained, but every new ride is what I call a “carnival” ride.. fireball, which replaced rush street flyer years ago, cat woman’s whip, which replaced Superman tower of power of drop, tilt a whirl, and now the new joker ride swinging pendulum (the swaying boat ride by Batman is now a pirate them? But used to be called the joker and painted different). Also got rid of a water /boat drop ride that would get you soaked (was by the swings in the back that now sits vacant). They need to invest into a new big actual COASTER, along with getting the RMC treatment for the boss at a minimum. Still a fun park, but nothing what it used to be. Hope you all enjoyed!

got some information for you. six flags mid america aka six flags st louis is my home park. screaming eagle was designed by john c allen and yes it was a ptc. i have never personally ridden it but its been at the park since i was even a kid myself in the 80s but it was an inaugural coaster at six flags st louis along with the mine train. the batman the ride is a mirror image of the six flags great america which was the actual first batman the ride so its a flipside of the six flags great america, and was installed in 1992. the ninja came right at the end of the 80s and replaced the jet scream and i wish it werent at the park anymore. the information you flashed on the screen about it being an arrow and vekoma conglomeration is correct. it was not new when it came to six flags st louis, it was used at expo 86 in vancouver under the name scream machine during 86 obviously and then was bought by six flags and moved to st louis. its always been rough, but its even rougher now. the boss used to be a little less rough but has gotten a little worse for wear in the years since its official opening in 2000. this coaster is a great nominee to be RMCed, at least hopefully. american thunder came later in 2008 and was originally known as Evel Knievel and in my opinion is the best and most fun coaster at the park. mr freeze reverse blast used to run with the trains facing straight out but they reversed them in the 2000s, was originally built in 1997, and is one of exactly two remaining launch shuttle coasters with LIM technology. the other being mr freeze at six flags over texas. there was a trio of LIM launch shuttle coasters with the third being called batman and robin the chiller at six flags in new jersey. however that coaster had so many problems as it was supposed to duel but took so much power it would cause brown outs at the park, plus it actually blew out several of the lims over the scant years it operated, it would valley often too. eventually six flags new jersey ceased operations of one side to keep the other running but even doing that, im fuzzy which side was shuttered, the coaster was just a mess. it didnt even make it a decade afaik. six flags new jersey sold the coaster to a theme park in another continent but lost the design plans and thus batman and robin the chiller faded into history not with a bang and not even with a whimper, but instead the buyer ended up scrapping the coaster for whatever money they could reclaim from it thru recycling. mr freeze is definitely fast at 0-70mph in 4 seconds, though now there are a ton of coasters that launch harder and faster. the boss is indeed like riding in a shopping cart over cobblestone like emc7621 said. it is still a good park but is in desperate need of either the boss getting RMCed or maybe a new mega or gigacoaster in order to get butts back in the seats. i do have a season pass myself to that park currently along with my girl but weve gone exactly once this season thus far.

my experience riding the ninja coaster was not good. I went with a friend and we sat in the back row. While we were getting on, our seatbelts wouldn’t go down so we had to ask for help and they almost started the ride while we weren’t strapped in. We had to yell to get them to notice our situation. When we finally got strapped in and the ride started, it was not good either. Your head gets thrown from side to side the whole time and it gave me a headache afterwards. It might be good for some people but just not me.
