3 Types of Muay Thai Leg Kicks (Heavy Bag Tutorial)

- TFC trainer Ben Johnston runs through 3 types of leg kicks that can be used effectively in muay thai.
In a muay thai fight, there are many variables that can affect how likely a kick is to land. If you only practice the one type of kick over and over, it can become difficult to execute in a fight when there are other variable to deal with.
By training different leg kicks at various distances, you are better preparing yourself for a real muay thai fight where anything could happen.

Very nice. Kicks are the one of the advantages
Great tutorial. Thank you.
You are welcome!
Thanks 🙏
Thank you
First off, great video finally breaking down the different kind of muay Thai kicks. Just started muay Thai and I'm so confused between all the different types of leg kicks that are being shown on youtube videos and by my teacher.
the first kick kinda also has the same form as a low-kick doesn't it?
I thought being further away from the pivot point gave you more leverage...
That is correct, if you are pulling on the lever. But in the case of a kick, the shin is on the pushing side of the lever. Being further from the pivot creates more speed, but closer to the pivot (the knee) creates more torque. hope that makes sense.
Hi, just wondering if you would say that the 3rd type of kick is more of a push kick. Just apart from where your trying to hit them with, the upper portion of shin, what would you say are the major differences between 1 and 3.
Interesting Vid. Thanks
Hi Marc, It definitely is more of a drive rather than a snapping style kick. the main difference really comes down to the part of the shin making impact. It completely changes the feel of the kick, for both the person kicking and receiving. Have a go with a partner on a leg shield, and also on the bag! Let me know how you go, if needed I can do another video that really breaks down this style of kick further.
@@the-tfc-gym thanks for the reply. Cheers mate. Nice Vid. Not an overload of info.
Just right
bag weight?
Been doing research for a heavy bag. Don't know which one to get..80lns vs 100 lbs..I want a bag for boxing and muay thai. IAM 17 years old wrestler. I used to fight in muay thai and did boxing off and on.. my dad wants one that is easier on joints I guess not too hard and not too soft and also one that does not settle on bottom like Everlast does..
The 80lbs probably will swing a lot more than 100 lbs but I guess in a way is good for movement?? Well I hope you can give me so.e advice on some heavy bags..
Thank uou
I have 100 lbs bag and it still swings like crazy , or maybe im too strong (idk🧐😅😅) , but there really doesnt come a lot of movement with the swing, its just annoying at some point because in order to execute some tehniques you will have to stop the bag after you hit it....every.damn.time. So i guess in the end it comes down to how much you weight and how much weight your ceiling can hold , im 220 (im cutting till 185) so i suppose it will get better after the weight cut🤷♂️
IAM 170lns pretty strong I think😁
Well a year later but look into outslayer bags with straps on top and bottom. I use it in my videos. It is 135 lbs as is and I can hook a weight or sand bag on bottom for more weight. Also could anchor the bottom to ground if I wanted to.
Cool
🙏🙏
hello, i have recently started muay thai and my feet and legs are just killing me when i kick the heavy bag, is there anything i can do about it or is it just a matter of time before i get used to it?
I’m wondering the same thing, my wrists are killing me
I struggle with kicks in Muay Thai. Have trouble rotating my hips
Reps will get you there bro. And mobility 💯
@@the-tfc-gym any mobility exercises you recommend?
@@sammctagger5451I’m not that guy but honestly hip rotations and stretching helps me out a tons with my kicking.
im scared my bones are too weak for the third kick since i get instant pain, (i also have abnormaly long and skinny legs) any recommendations on specific excercises or tips to help this out? thanks.
Just kick 60 % but do it every day
Also focus on technique and take calcium rich foods, supplements, collagen for the joints
I am here because I just got a heavy bag. I can kick really nicely with my right foot only thanks to years of neglecting my left foot during sports. When I kick with my left, it feels completely wrong and there’s no power or pop or anything. It’s super awkward and difficult to get into the correct position. Is this just a matter of practicing more with my left? Kind of like learning to write with your weak hand?
im late but yes practice more with your left
im the oppisite, good left bag right. working on it by using my right alot more
Do I have to strengthen my shins before doing this??
yes, you will break your shin on the bottom of the bag.
Basically first thai style second dutch style third dieselnoi
hitting that part of the bag must hurt
Not if it’s your shin that hits it. Don’t kick it with your foot tho lol
To be much talking
Can't watch entire the clip. Talk less could make your video more interesting.
