Nice! It's very important to know the anatomy of your own machine as opposed to relying on a tech.

Hello! First of all thank you for your videos, they motivated me a lot to learn how to cut gems! I have bought a machine in Sri Lanka without speed control, and I am considering the possibility of install a variable speed motor, do you know where to buy a compatible motor in Europe?

@@chemasanchez1986 i’m not sure. I’ve never tried to take out the motor and put in a different one with the speed controller. I think the speed controller will have to sit outside of the faceting machine cause they’re quite big. However, I can’t help with the motor. Sorry.
I think if you don’t have a speed controller, this is OK. Before the pandemic, the only machines that we had were fixed speed and we would run them at full speed while teaching brand new students. 1400 RPMs and people were able to cope with it and cut good stones anyway, they just had to learn a little bit more about hand pressure.

You're right, if they've been working all their lives without variable speed it's because it's not essential, but it sounds good for the future. For now, I have to practice a lot with what I have.😊 Thank you

Listening to the background music ?? I was expecting to hear ... "Starlog 2024.04.18 These are the voyages of the starship Enterprise .. to boldly go >>> etc".
BTW - Justine. How long have you had and used your Sterling ? OR How many stones would you estimate you have cut with it ? Sterling appears to be pretty robust and I'm suspecting the speed controller (while likely being the first thing to go) likely lasts a long time ?

I think this one was a dud. This isn’t my original machine, it’s one I bought later for the school. I can’t exactly remember but this can’t be much older than 4 years.
