- ARTH2710 Lecture 02 Legacy of the Renaissance and Early Italian Renaissance Part 1
Travis Lee Clark
Utah Valley University
This is the first part of the second lecture of the second part of my Western Art Survey (Um..yeah that's right.) In this lecture we discuss what we mean when we say "Renaissance" and if there really WAS a Renaissance or not. Then we go into the beginnings of the Early Italian Renaissance in the 14th C. (or Trecento in Italian, even though "Renaissance" is a French word. Cuz...reasons. Fritalian! Art Historians had it before Starbucks!) We also talk (briefly) about Leonardo's pet lizard and explain why all the Ninja Turtles are named wrong. Enjoy!
As a former student of Dr Clark, I can say his humor and passion for art history remains even online :) so happy to have a record of his teachings 🙌🏼
I love it. He is a great. I am not his student but I listen to his lecture to help me with this class with another professor
Prof. Clark, as someone who greatly misses university level learning and history since I graduated, these lectures have been an absolute godsend. I have never been both entertained and educated so much from a lecturer. Your sense of humor really makes the learning fun and easy. Thank you for the bottom of my heart!!
I started watching this series for my own benefit and I have to say, you’re a gifted teacher. I’m finding the information easy to follow and retain without note taking. Your lecture style is welcoming and enjoyable to listen to. 10/10. Love the nerdy references too. Thanks for making this public.
I am learning so much! Thank you so much for putting these wonderful lectures on RUclips! :)
I was a poli sci/law major, but I’m LOVING your art history lectures
Thank you for putting this on youtube!! You made art history more interesting for all of us.
Hey, thanks for putting these out, just wanted to let you know that you are helping loads of kids out, including me :)
The BYU reference was ahead of its time! Unreal 😂
My professor's class is terribly boring and there is zero engagement. So, here I am. Thank you!
Thankfull for watching your classes in Brazil!
You did a great job with these. Thanks very much
Another dose of TLC for me (You got a great set of initials there ;o))! Thanks for the lively, relatable presentation and details I have never heard of before.
This lecture appeals to young and immature learners, since it seeks to amuse rather than to present the topic in a concise and objective manner.
thank you so much!
wow! so interesting to hear how renaissance started by those humanist.
Thanks!
Why can't you be my Modern Art professor? I've already learned way more. Still probably going to explode when we come to Pollack.
Italy has been under one government Since 1860. Rome was added and made the capital in 1870-71. King Vittorio's Emmanuele died in 1878 AND the first conclave took place in the Sistine chapel since 1774.
could the blue be a variant of Egyptian blue?
Thank
Your medieval bias is contagious! I now have a new-found respect for the artists of that period!
Seriously lol! My world has just crumbled 💀💀💀💀
Whose severed head is that with Justice at 1:08:35
I guess even italy had a gothic phase.
😂
Lmfaooooo
The entire channel is great! But in this video that chair is very annoying! Anyway, it is worth to endure anything just to watch the entire video.
Vasari had an agenda....but you do as well......But great talk anyway! The word is 'anecdote'
Can you really say, with surity, that Michelangelo saw German vesperbild?
