Love you Angelo. I am an 80 year old person. I have had quite a few mystical experiences and met quite a few teachers of Zen, Vipassana, Aikido and more. I sometimes seemed to "stumble across them". Now I have stumbled across first Mooji and now You. I have great mental thought suffering, and scenes from my life keep filtering through my mind. I do not feel these past episodes are me. I want to awaken before I die and I see now that I was always hiding as a misfit. wow this is a great stage of life to be in. A lot is happening.

I think I only had a glimpse of this once when i was a kid. Was driving with my dad, window down, then this sudden feeling of feeling good for no reason and the realization that I had no problems at all in that moment. I remember finding that weird and consciously trying to search for problems in my mind, but no, so I turned to my dad and exclaimed 'I have no problems in this moment!'. I've always dismissed this episode but little me might have had a peek into something :) Great video thank you

been watching this on repeat. I don't know how to be a human wacks me in the heart every time. Its weird I have always known I'm not the body and the longing for home haunts me.
I have tried to find it by trying to be a good human. the anger and rage is coming in waves, I might be here for a while.
    Thanks for making this video.

Prior to waking up I studied consumer psychology. Understanding the limbic system was very useful for making sense of Awakening. We tend to protect our ego and have tribalistic drives. Check out Robert cardini's book Influence, the fifth edition. We have so many Antiquated internal drives that are designed to protect us. Negativity bias for example is 5 - 10 times stronger than seeking positive. This can easily Cloud your perception of the world

Thank you very much. I had a sudden "panik attack" 6 years ago. After that my perception changed totally. I didnt recognize myself in the mirror and everything felt alien. All hidden or surpressed pain came up at once. I felt I was going crazy and had no explanation. The closest to me was to think I am ill and need theraphy. But Also I felt noone can help my with this - so I did not go to theraphy and started looking on youtube for "is Identity an illusion". I found Mooji and followed him for some years and a spiritual ego buildt up.
I still felt I need to heal the person and his teaching will help me to become a normal, healed and enlightened person .
Then new teachers came up. Tony Parsons, Ariana, Nargis, Theo and so on. It is so clear now. A guidance in an earlier state would have saved me some years maybe. But It doesent matter. Thank you !
I would love to talk with you.

Some of the points here fit so well with my life that's it actually freaky, after decades of feeling like I was insane or the whole world was insane Just out of curiosity I read a book called "A guide to spirituality without religion" and a paragraph there made sth click in my mind. Once I understand more, maybe I might venture a bit…but I tend to like things kept in the simplest form for my curiosity. You do a great job expressing the inexpressible 😳. Perhaps our “intuition” knows where we are the most comfortable? I have always used the term in times of distress…”it is what it is”. Well now, it has a whole new meaning doesn’t it 😂🤣.

I'm in what I call the frustrated as fuck stage of awakening 😅 I had a moment during meditation, after listening to one of your videos, where I realised I am not my thoughts gaaaah such sweet relief. There was this momentary peaceful black quiet abyss. I rarely find it again, yet I still feel it lurking. I had 6 months of feeling magic & ever since there's just a hunger. Awakening is all I care about, I devoured your book & go back to it often. 12 months post that first moment & I still catch myself identifying with thoughts & that's the frustrating as fuck part. I want self to drop away. I'm tired of the programming (conditioning whatever "it" is) that constantly kicks in, the wants & don't wants drive me insane. This is all I really care about anymore. Wake up already Tracey!

It’s funny, I’ve been sitting in AA meetings for 15 years hearing everyone of us tell the same story. We feel separate and alone, different, weird, awkward and then discovered the unearned awakening in drugs and alcohol. Our 12th step promises an awakening. I am curious if you have ever read the book “Alcoholics Anonymous”? Bill Wilson wrote about his awakening and the steps that he and others followed to escape the deadly obsession with alcohol. There are many stories that follow and we all tell the same story. This is what we were always seeking ❤

Yes, this is reasonably common phenomenon I think. As we begin to form then solidify ego structures, some of us feel a distinct sense that "something isn't right here." The degree to which it feels unsettling, how well he can ignore it and distract ourselves etc play into how inclined we are to do something about it, but I think many people experience some degree of it. For me it was like a prison of thought and the more it solidified the smaller the cell got.

Thank you so much for sharing your teachings. I saw you on Guru Viking and found this channel from there. I'm also enjoying your book at the moment. You really have a way of cutting through and simplifying what are otherwise very nebulous concepts. For this video, I have a question about how (and if) you would relate your stages of awakening to the Theravada Four Path model. It seems like Initial Awakening corresponds with what would be considered 1st Path in that model, and that what you call Liberation corresponds with 4th path or Arahathood. The middle paths would be the stages of clarification after the initial awakening. Is this how would you might compare the two or are your describing something rather different here?

    • @SimplyAlwaysAwake
      @SimplyAlwaysAwake  3 года назад +8

I'd say that's reasonably accurate although I'm not a Buddhist scholar and there can be a lot of disagreement over the exact meaning of the various fetters. For instance I know people who are clearly liberated but would say they have not fully broken all of the fetters, whereas I know people who are liberated who would say that's exactly what the fetters refer to. I'm less interested in giving someone a map (or more maps) and far more interested in showing them how to move beyond the map and (re) inherit the territory. At that point they can describe things how feels most accurate to them, or not describe at all bc realization is inherently indescribable :) Thanks for your question :)

Isn't spirituality just a way for traumatised people to cope with life? What makes me doubt in concept of awekening is fear that my ego is actually supporting my spiritual journey! I feel better since i started it, what if my spiritual progress isnt "real" but my ego actually wants me to think it is because i feel better?

    • @SimplyAlwaysAwake
      @SimplyAlwaysAwake  2 года назад +8

This is the way the mind does us eh? I know this frustration, it was so vivid and binding for me. All I can say is what I'm pointing to is truly a way out of that world of getting constantly pushed around by your own thoughts. Doubtmass, while quite painful, is also part of the formula of conditions that comes together to wake us up. Without realizing that trying to sort out "my life" through thinking and concepts is inherently painful, there is little impetus to awaken. So that doubt mass plus a little glimmer of trust that what we are pointing to is a very real possibility is a magic combination. Even if the voice of doubt is quite loud and that glimmer of trust in something (no-thing) that is more real than this perceived reality is a mere whisper, the conditions are there for the transition to happen :)

They say man cannot see the face of God and live. Awakening then is seeing the face of God. The one who approached does not survive.
Liberation then is God persistently seeing the face of God. Creation and destruction simultaneously. In each moment.
In my more rebellious moments I wonder if the Buddha talked about rebirth as a way of trolling the priests at the time. Kinda a way to ward against depending on gurus who live to tell you how to be good, how to live your life - he said the ultimate reincarnation is to be gone, and also in doing so also implies that every single moment is a brand new life. A one hour seated meditation session is then "thousands of lifetimes"
    Who knows.

Hi Angelo, I sent you a practice question through your website but this one is more specific to this video. You say that people can experience "oneness" but upon further investigation have not had a true awakening. But I also I understand it that oneness is a quality of awakening. I can certainly imagine experiences of deep connection like playing music with people or making love, which alter the sense of self but may not be awakening. Could you elaborate?
In my experience with the Theravada monastics, they claim the phrase "we are all one" doesn't speak to the truth of awakening because if we were all one, I could exert control over everything, which isn't the case.
We use these terminologies--Buddha nature, No-self, True self, I AM. Its easy reading these to conceptualize, and I end up just not trusting my experiences.

In the book the chapter “what is awakening” goes into great detail about this. The first shift which is an identity level shift and not mistakable I call awakening. I also explain a I Am, and discuss later stages of awakening. No-self /Anatta is a culmination of later refinements such as non-dual, and is relatively speaking a very deep stage of realization. By this I mean of those who have had authentic awakenings most have not realized and actualized Anatta. But I think more and more are with good pointing.
As far as oneness etc, these are experiences and are good glimpses but are not true awakening. Some people experience them very frequently but are relatively uninterested in true awakening. On the other hand I know many people who are only concerned with authentic realization, and rarely have those experiences. However at some point it’s impossible to talk about experiences such as non-dual realization where by definition the experience and experiencer cease to exist :)

@@SimplyAlwaysAwake Well, I'm clearly engaging in imagining and conceptualizing, which is sometimes interesting but not relieving. Regardless of what my experiences qualify as, recreating through memory can never be do them service.
I kind of feel torn between worlds though, not fully inhabiting the Big Mind or the Little Mind, and fearing I could lose access to the Big Mind if I damage my body or mind somehow (what I wrote you about) I know this is just a fearful thought, but a powerful one. So I wonder if some realizations would utterly destroy this fear, or if there is room for doubts of this type even after thorough awakening.
It would be nice to not fear senility, death, and helplessness...permanently! I'll leave it be for now, in fear of going too deep in the RUclips comments :)

@@westonbarter8309 yes the fear of death subsides in later stages of realization specifically when the perception of external world drops away. What little fear or remnant suffering is left (not much) will be obliterated with Anatta. Until then a lot of shadow work is often required. See chapter on emotions :)

in short: awakening is something shifting, like something big, basicaly something important. Something you often suddenly realise. It can be something good or something bad. It can happen to someone who wants it but also to someone who doesnt want it. It is something profound and deep, maybe, usually, but sometimes it is not, maybe.
in very short: this dude is anything but awake, his followers are gullable sheep, the only thing im seeing here is marketing. Very wide marketing of something imaginable. I believe the awakening is a real thing, but its very rare, very painful and oposite of what people here actually seek. What these people seek is mystical experience and best way to get it is from your local drug dealer.

Maybe you could try to think of good analogies that would help people perform self-tests to determine where they are at. Sometimes I listen, and I think 'ok, maybe that has been done', or something else has been done, or maybe nothing has been done. Some people may be too boastful, and some too humble, so it sure would be nice if there was some way to clearly define stages in a fool-proof manner.

For me, the antagonism was the exclusivity of materialism in life, from birth to death, and the nonsense of western religion. And the way people are satisfied being immersed in that offering; ie, just puff yourself up, be lustful+greedy, and say 'im saved, Jebus died for my sins' . That's the best. The grand delusion. I had way too many insights that demonstrated such a view was silly, corrupt, corrupting. Dangerous.

“I don’t know how to talk about what other people talk about.”
This. I heard this and wasn’t sure whether to laugh or cry… 🥹
The funny thing is, I do “know how” and often manage to do it well (if you ask 100 people they’d probably all agree I’m an extrovert) but when I’m speaking purely authentically… it… never seems to go well. It’s awful, actually. And the sense that there was something wrong with me was sooo pervasive. Authenticity is probably the most consistent … pull in my life. And I hated it. And made peace with it. Back and forth ad nauseam.
“well I can’t be anyone else… may as well figure out a way to comfortably be myself”
Of course the lifelong drive to somehow bring “me” and “everything else” together… lol that was my imagined path and it suuuuuucked!
No joke I thought my mission in life was to figure out a unified theory of everything 🤣 that’s CRAZY! Ugh… like I couldn’t rest until I could 1) understand myself and to do that I also had to 2) understand others deeply 3) by coming to agreement with them, fundamentally and 4) integrating the part of ME “they” showed me, so I could 5) love and accept myself unconditionally in order to finally 6) love others unconditionally and 7) arrive at a state of blissful union with a world that seemed inhospitable to who I felt myself to be.
I am thankful, grateful beyond words for life and movement/impermanence and timing and your clear transmitting and pointing. Granted, everything clearly transmits and points to this… but it didn’t feel fully ok until your channel got bumped into my RUclips feed 🙏🙏🙏 (there wasn’t anything to not like 😬🫣😜😂😂😇)
