    Crab Rangoon
    - A creamy imitation crab and cream cheese filling in a crispy wonton is a perfect party appetizer ! They are easy, fun to make and always the most hit!
    Ingredients:
    - Wonton wrapper : 1 pack
    - Imitation crab : 8 oz
    - Cream cheese : 8 oz
    - Salt : 1/2 teaspoon
    - Black pepper : 1 teaspoon
    - Oil : enough for deep fry
    Instructions :
    - Cut imitation crab meat into thin slices and place into a bowl, add cream cheese, salt and pepper then mix well together.
    - Place filling in the center of the wonton wrapper, fold up 2 opposite corners to meet in the center, press to seal. Fold up 2 corners from both sides to meet in the center, try to keep the edges lined up evenly. Make sure to seal all the edges carefully.
    - Heat enough amount of oil in a pan to 350F . Fry the Rangoon several pieces at a time until golden and crispy.
    These Rangoons are just great on their own but you can have them with any dipping sauces that you like. To me, I love them with sweet chili sauce. A mixture of siriacha and honey.

    This needs a touch of sugar (maybe 1 tsp) and some onion (1 Tbsp finely minced green onions - can substitute minced white onions or even some onion powder) to really amp it up. Adds a great dimension to the flavor !

      @@Grostleton I mean yeah! You kinda prove my point here. The origin of pizza from Persia is basically a flatbread baked with toppings such as dates and cheese. Ancient Greeks uses garlic, cheese, onion, some herbs for toppings. Sauce is relatively new and indeed a modification!🤯

    Your video convinced me to try making these (one of my favorite appetizers) and although they looked like I had some kind of seizure while folding them, they tasted great! My 6 year old son “helped” me and we have a great time together. I ended up with some extra mix and wrappers after my initial batch so I made “Rangoon ravioli” by sandwiching the filling between two wrappers. Again, not pretty, but I still enjoyed them.
    I made an attempt at some sauce with rice vinegar, brown sugar, ketchup, and sambal with some fresh squeezed orange since I didn’t have any pineapple on hand. I have no idea how accurate it was, but I just used what I had in the fridge.

However, being someone who made them only one time i found it to be very time consuming. I even had my wife helping as her part in it was to scoop and deposit the filling onto each wonton wrapper. I think a cost analyses would value the ones i made at $1.00 each. So yeah, i could appreciate having to spend that much at a restaurant that could produce 36 of them in 20 minutes time.

Leftover, bland. Not sure what it is, but these require too much salt to make them tasty. Maybe mix the cheese and salt a couple.days to help it sink in. I couldn't taste crab or cheese. I might in a flavorful cheese or something. Super easy to wrap tho!!

      I know the imitation crab meat doesn't have to be cooked before hand .. BUT I have noticed it has a different texture and taste if I put it in the microwave for about 15 to 30 seconds depending on microwave.. I also have put it on the stove top on very low with butter for a few minutes to heat it up .. To me warming the imitation crab meat up makes more of that crab flavor to me .. I even do this if I'm making crab salad .. It's just a suggestion.. I like it that way .. But that's just my opinion..

    I'm surprised there isn't a drizzle of honey or something in the filling. It always tastes very sweet, almost like a dessert.

    I've made these before. They really are easy to make and cost about $15 to $20 bucks for a large batch of about 30 (making it about 50 to 75 cents per Crab Rangoon). But wrapping the filling in the wanton is a labor of love. Given restaurants charge at least three time the cost of ingredients, 4 Crab Rangoon costing about $6 to $9 makes sense

    • @sharonanderson3851
      @sharonanderson3851 9 месяцев назад

      I noticed it was labor-intensive but otherwise a simple recipe. Looks delicious!

    • @chadsmith8966
      @chadsmith8966 9 месяцев назад

      @@sharonanderson3851 agreed, it’s really the wrapping phase that takes a lot of effort. Compared to that, frying is a breeze. Not to mention the satisfaction you get when they’re done.

    I just finished making your recipe, and they came out really good. I learned that if you going to use a block of cream cheese you really got to let that soften before mixing with the imitation crab. I will say as much as I love black pepper I don't think it belongs in this dish. At least not a whole teaspoon.

    • @VietnameseHomeCooking
      @VietnameseHomeCooking  10 месяцев назад

      Thank you so much for your feedback Richaddube. I will keep in mind to leave the cream cheese out at room temperature before I make it and not to put too much of the black pepper

      I wouldn't add pepper to that either. Takes away from the sweetness of the cream cheese. Sounds delish!!! Can't wait to make my own.

      Thank you for following this recipe. Please do add some chopped green onion if you prefer stronger onion flavor. Some viewers also suggested adding jalapeño or sugar but you can modify it to however you like to meet your taste. This recipe I just did the basic foundation of whatever I had in hand. Please let me know how it turns out. Thank you.
