I just found out about these pencils. They look really cool. I can't wait to get my set in from Blick!

If they can come out with a few in the H range...these will be more unstoppable then they already are. I would LOVE a 6H or even harder for light sketch work and/or for being able to make small sharp details

You don't need them in the H range. H pencils don't shine. Only the high B pencils have a problem with shine because you have to put them on very thick in order to get the deep black too many artists think they need for contrast. They don't, but RUclips is a place where one person with a lot of subscribers says do this, and suddenly everyone does it. No artist needs jet black to get perfect contrast. They just don't.
This said, really7, H pencils are very, very light, and you can barely see a 6H, if it's used correctly. If you're [pressing to make it darker, don't. You never, ever want to use pressure with a H pencil.
In fact, get away from using H pencils for such purposes. Especially something as hard and light as a 6H. Go to a regulat H, or even better, a standard HB. This is what pros use for such things. Most of the pros I know never use a H higher than 3H for anything. Numbers higher than this are primarily made so beginners will buy bigger and more expensive pencil sets.
Even 10B pencils are mostly fopr suckers, even if they are pro artists. Now you can even get a 14B. That's laughable, but even pros are buying them. Most regret it, and they should, because a 14B has the same tonal value as a standard 10B. Or even some 8B pencils, which is all anyone ever needs.

Was interested in this set because of the matt characteristic. But having used Faber-Castell's Pitt Charcoal softs for some years now, even the 14B lacks the deep blacks I'm accustomed to. But these pencils can be used for added detail, and the graphite parts will no longer be as noticeable because of the reduction in shine. They just won't be replacing my Pitt charcoals entirely as I was hoping (since sharpening those are time consuming).

Good Review. One question, what kind of paper is the best option to obtain the best results, using Pitt Graphite Matt? Thanks

Hi Leanne, would type of brushes do you recommend to blend out graphite. I think I heard you say you were using a hog hair brush? Are there any other or maybe a set if brushes you recommend? Thanks hun

One question Leanne when you blended it with the brush does it gives alot of reflection then or is it still reduced..Because mars lumograph black when blended they right away give graphite shine insane amout of it...

    • @LeanneBishop
      @LeanneBishop  3 года назад +1

I didn’t notice it giving off shine when blending with a brush. I noticed it mostly when pressing firmly (burnishing) it with the blending stump, but even then…it was minimal 😉👍

I just tested it again, with a brush, and compared it to Mars Lumograph. I would say they give off the same amounted shine when blended

@@LeanneBishop then its the same carbon graphite with some binder mix like steadters...thank you so much leanne i was really curious to find out because i use lumograph black in very limit things because i can't blend it because of the super shine...i instead started to use pier noir 3b pencil and carbon paris conte for better contranst but still i wanted new option that have darker range...Idk what to say i am dissapointed that it can't work for hyper realistic work...Thank you so much Leanne for your time all the best to you.

I'm getting back to the hobby after many years and I'm trying to order the tools I need. Polychromos 36, Eberhard Faber Artist Color 16 Staedtler 100 G6 Mars Lumograph, Pentel P205 or Faber Castell TK-Fine Executive, as for a block, I look at Canson XL dessin but I'm not sure. Any suggestions, would be really appriciated. I really need some help on this. Thanks in advance

It's quite remarkable how many people fall for the marketing trick by
Faber Castell to name the pencil "graphite", although B's, especially
the darker B's like 14B, do not contain much graphite anymore, but much
coal. Even though "graphite" is printed on those pencils as well, it's
simply not what they consist of in the first place. I don't see a
revolution in this, I just see Faber Castell marketing claiming it would
be a revolution. It is not.

I don't like these any more than the Staedtler Lumographs. Neither are really graphite pencils at all, at least in the10B on up. They have more wax in them than a candle factory, and, for me, at least, don't work nearly as well as a carbon pencil, or even a regular pil based black colored pencil. Or sometimes a pastel pencil.
Nor are they 10B and 12B very black. Wish I liked thgem more, but I really wish I hadn't spent the money.

Yes it can be tough finding a tool that works best for individual preference. I don’t mind them, but I find myself still reaching for my greys and black polychromos pencils for details. I also like carbon pencils. I recently tried the Pitt oil pencils. They are ok, but I’m still in search of the perfect pencil for details in my charcoal artwork

Are these even graphite at all? Or is “Pitt Graphite™” a trademarked name, and these are just coloured pencils?
